This. Great coach. Arguably the greatest ever. His legacy is cemented and he should 100% be a first ballot hof coach.

I’m just not surprised some people are bitter towards him however that shouldn’t count towards not getting votes so the hof is coming off biased right now and that’s not a good look for the NFL
I'll say this again.

Why exactly are they bitter toward him?

Give me an example.

Cutting off reporters is 100% what reporters sign up for. IN FACT, when Pegula ran at the mouth and went crazy last week, all the ESPN reporters including Shefter said that this is why you need PR, you should never be forthcoming with reporters in the way Pegula was because it's detrimental to your team.

So give me an example of why people should hate him or feel bitter?

How do you explain Tom's treatment of Bill? How about shoving Guerrero (aka Dr. Quack) down Bill's throat (a metaphor) or openly playing footsie with the Dolphins while still under contract with the Patriots? Oh, and with all due respect, if you have to ask "who isn't" nice to those workers on the lower rungs in organizations, I really y don't know what to tell you...
I am a CEO. No one in my organization is disrespectful to support staff. I know because I ask them. I don’t see why anyone would be a jerk to someone serving a meal, or cleaning up, or in our case cleaning medical equipment, drawing blood, answering phones etc.

Now we’ve had VENDORS do it and very quickly find themselves former vendors but never anyone inside the org.

Maybe I’m naive but I don’t see it being a common thing to “punch down” as it were.

Fair. But let’s not pretend Bill didn’t also have some ugly cheating accusations more than once that a lot of folks hold against him. Barry Bonds isn’t in the MLB HOF….which is asinine, but lots of folks hold PED’s against him.
What in the world are you talking about?

He had nothing to do with deflategate!

Spygate wasn't ugly at all.

I don't know what to say at this point but I'm doubting everything you've written based on this claim.

And Double Deluxe has also laid Deflategate at his feet.

Pegula was not a great example. The sin he was guilty of was cutting off his own GM repeatedly making him look impotent. That was a strange PC.

Consider me crushed that upstater1 doubts everything I write. Not sure how I’ll possibly continue on.

Which Spygate?

Rams or Mangina?

Rams…that wasn’t cool of BB.

Mangina= **** him.
What Rams are you even talking about? The walkthrough?

Do you even know the basics here?

#1. The Rams thing was recanted by the accuser. It actually blew up in Tomase's face.
#2. There was a NY Times article about NFL security finding a guy taping the Patriots walkthrough.
#3. Even if they had filmed the walkthrough, which there's never been proof of, it had absolutely no impact on the game. Do you know why?

My god, can't believe I had to write that.

You missed the point of what I wrote.

Reporters expect resistance from the people they are interviewing or the people at a press conference. They do not expect people to be forthcoming. It's part of the job.

Now give me an example of what you are talking about.

This isn’t modern society. It’s human history.

HOF doesn’t have objective criteria.

Humans decide.

Barry Bonds should have been in the MLB HOF. But he was an ******* and took steroids. Now the fact that everyone else he played against also probably did too should factor in but it doesn’t.

$100 says he gets in next year and this was just a “let’s send him one last FU” message.!
Not to get into a pedantic argument about objectivity and subjectivity but Bill Belichick is objectively the most sure fire first ballot HOFer the NFL has ever seen yet. This is objectively the wrongest HOF decision in NFL history. I dont care about human feelings

He admitted to taping signals from an improper location and then also admitted filming Jets signals years later after being warned not to. Capital offense? No.

Douchebag move that made everyone believe he was shady and probably did far worse without getting caught?

Yes.

His own owner called him a putz for doing it FFS.

Why are we pretending Bill was a saint who didn’t push envelope and alienate press, coaches, and players for years?

It’s just a little rich for me that a guy who acted that way for years is now indignant that “people are being mean to him”.

He won a lot of games. Should be in for that reason. He was also an arrogant ******* and you reap what you sow.

He gets in next year and no one cares.
You sound like a fan of some other team.

What does your first sentence mean?

IT WAS NOT ILLEGAL BEFORE THE MEMO. How can you not realize that? The memo came out in 2006. "Years later?"

Douchebag move?

Are you even aware the NFL -- AFTER THE MEMO -- said they were perfectly OK with teams filming from the sidelines? What is Belichick supposed to think? The Jets were filming from the sidelines and the Patriots alerted the NFL to the fact that the Jets were violating the dictates of the memo. The NFL said it's fine. SO WHAT WOULD YOU THINK?

How is that a douchebag move?

You clearly have hatred for Belichick and I do see arrogant assholes implicated in this whole discussion.

So what you are saying is BB is in no way responsible for the disdain many people outside of NE have for him?
Disdain = losing.

How come none of you can come up with particulars? Specifics? What exactly?

My god, can't believe I had to write that.

It was Rams signals he taped. He admitted that. From a place he shouldn’t have.

Then did the same friggin thing years later like a moron.

My entire point is Bill bent some rules intentionally. Not BIG rules but he did it.

Hard to be mad years later when people hold a grudge whom you beat for decades.

He didn’t bet on games or anything insane, but he’s also no choirboy.

I’d say same about Peyton and Bountygate. Peyton knew about that ****.

I will never buy that Bill didn’t play fast and loose at times.

I just think some folks excuse him for **** they’d draw and quarter another coach for and I have no inclination to turn him into a saint because he won.

He won BECAUSE HE WASN’T A SAINT. I’m fine with it. But also not an ostrich.

Oh I make no bones about the fact that I can’t ****ing stand the guy.

But I’d have voted for him as a HOF coach.

Not everyone can separate personal feelings from professional judgement.

I have stated multiple times he should be a first ballot HOFer.
Yes some grade douchebags lead the charge to keep him out and it's 100000% wrong.
But are we really arguing that he was well liked?
Hell, Kraft hated him.
Kraft hated Parcells too.
He shiv'd Carroll on the way out too.
Kraft is familiar with the night of the long knives.

I don’t disagree.

Yet none of it is remotely surprising.

Thought he would be a huge shoo in. Guess not. There is always next year!

You're making things up. You're totally confused about the specifics of Spygate. You don't seem to know the basic details.

I'll ask you again: SINCE THE NFL SAID IT WAS FINE TO FILM FROM THE FIELD, WHAT IS BELICHICK SUPPOSED TO THINK?

Not everyone can separate personal feelings from professional judgement.
Because of your hatred, you make stuff up and seem woefully ignorant of what happened; and you're more likely to go with fans on the losing end to the Patriots have to say.

Seriously you have misstated so many things factually about what Spygate is and what happened with Spygate.

I could go down a list of things and ask you if you are aware, and maybe that would change your mind, but I won't hold my breath.

This hurts the HOF more than it hurts Bill.

These voters are out of control it's the hall of fame, not the hall of great guys i'd most like to hang with.

They made Terrell Owens wait 3 years cause he was a me guy who made brash comments and demanded the football even though he had 16,000 yards and 153 TDs and was top 3 all time in both categories, what does if you were a dbag or not have to do with how good your career was?

I think he lost a lot of people and credibility with the Butler SB situation.

It showed he was willing to put personal BS over team winning which is supposed to be the opposite of his message.

Never getting a real answer or resolution to that was a really bad taste. How it all ended in NE also didn't help his case I suppose.

I still like BB but I certainly don't feel how I did 10 years ago.. But still the best coach ever imo.
What if he said something like, I always hold players accountable? That wouldn't satisfy?

I don't know if it was a punishment, but hypothetically, let's say it was. How do you account for all the games that were won and lost because of accountability and punishment? We certainly lost to the Jets because Welker was punished. That was even more egregious a Belichick move than Butler (which can be debated on other terms). But how do you account for all the wins that came from exactly that kind of accountability?

They did not say “it was fine to film from the field” they said it was fine to film from specific locations. Bill argued it was vague, and admitted to misunderstanding. Hence why there was no punishment. The second time (Jets) he absolutely knew it was wrong, did it anyway, and the NFL specifically cited “previous conduct “ in determining the punishment (which was heavy handed).

But it was a pattern of pushing the envelope.

We clearly have different views of Bill.

Who cares?
