Maye and O-line concerns

Someone needed to be helping on the left side (a 6th OL or a TE).
You can help him but not on every play. Eventually he just has to win. I’m not freaking out the Texans DE’s are elite. He was never going to win the assignment.

1) Will Anderson beat Campbell on 3 sacks and 2 fumbles. He is certainly an elite player.

2) Campbell would only need help infrequently if we had a quality LG.

As it is, LG/LT is a major weakness and target for defenders to beat out to get to the quarterback.

LT/LG is the one and only weakness on the team at this point. Everything else, every other positional group is clicking.

What about the fumbles last week?
Thank goodness Denver's Defense is a notch below the Texans. IF Maye can't get a pass off against them I'm going to blame McDaniels. Josh Allen was making plays on that Denver Defense: I think our Offense is better.

Some of the pressures were on Campbell, some were on Maye not knowing when his tackles had no help in chip blocking, some of that was on Tre Henderson not being a particularly good pass blocker and Rhamondre being on the bench with a poked eye, some of that was on Josh McDaniels for not calling a smarter game.

It wasn’t just Campbell sucking.

The Texans edge players are as good as you get. Drake needs to protect the ball better, he needs to get the ball out faster. He hasn’t played with playoff urgency or particularly well, and Josh probably hasn’t done enough to account for Drake’s youth and inexperience. You can’t hold the ball for five seconds, especially with only five blockers… this is the playoffs.
Excellent post Wozzy: we missed Rham for a stretch. I think McDaniels rolled the pocket once all game and got a measly completion to H Henry. Our gameplay on Offense was very suspect given the circumstances. IF Houston had Nico and Schultz we probably lose this game. McDaniels play calling was abysmal. I guess we really rolled the rice on Stroud Stinking.

Adversity will lead to growth and better performance. Or a complete collapse.

Me? I'm banking on the former, not the later with Will Campbell

Left side has to be better.

Agreed, Josh could have moved the pocket more and gave Drake some help that way. Don’t make him a prone target back there, he’s got legs.

Looks too familiar.

Team has developed impressively. But 2/3 positions that have not are RB2, RB3, and KR. Loss of Gibson still hurts here. Henderson has had moments, but he is boom or bust and without the big plays was a weakness last game and of late. KR is not horrible but never gives plus field position.

There have been SB winners with lackluster receivers & average QB's. It's not often a SB winner employs great receivers/QB's, while getting poor OL play (IE SB 42 & the patch work OL Mahomes had in SB 55).

I agree.

Therefore, one of the best OC's in the NFL should be able to scheme to better cover up this weakness.

My guess is that the team is OK with their rookie RB2.

The LT/LG issue is not only big for the next 2 games but it's going to be a huge issue going into the off season because the combo is obviously not sustainable into 2026 so they're either gonna have to seriously upgrade LG which basically commits to Will Campbell at LT for at least another 2 seasons when we don't know if he's psychically capable of handling the best rushers in the league once the rookie/injury excuse is out of the window or they get a new LT and kick Campbell inside to guard where he's never played.

Getting to the AFCCG is a great state of affairs. Also, Will Campbell has not played well. Both things can be true.

Coming from someone who claimed Marcus Bryant could take his job ( in November) it has zero credibility.

They have gone 16-3 with these two rookies manning the left side of the line, both will be playing full time at LT and LG/C next season.

Yeah, getting to the AFC Championship is a terrible state of affairs.
I see the left side of the Oline as a weakness and don’t rate Campbell was a LT who can hold his own against elite rushers. There is a common theme I am seeing, they are all lining up very wide and rushing successfully around him. Don’t confused my observation of this to imply that I am not impressed with the team overall. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I really think Ben Brown should be playing over Wilson, or ironically play Lowe at LT and kick Campbell to LG. Regardless right now we have to gameplan like the left side of the line is a problem. We can deny it or just accept that it's a weakness and plan around it. It is what it is - we are fortunate that despite facing ridiculously good defenses we are also facing extremely impaired offenses. So if we have to win like the 2001 Patriots then so be it.
