Turns out being a coach whose floor is 6-8 wins and ceiling is 1-2 wins in the playoffs is more of a liability than a complete moron coach.

Still, the Vrabel hire and subsequent success feels like it's having unexpected consequences where impatient and frustrated fans coupled with 3 moron owners result in the ****canning of two somewhat competent or even good coaches for complete unknowns.

It must be ****ing murder to be a Dolphins or Jets fan right now, seeing what we're doing.
It's amazing that we caught lightning in a bottle with Vrabel being available.

But are there a lot of great spots available? He may be impatient, but if not he'd be better off taking an OC job, hopefully making himself a top candidate again over the next 2-3 years, then take the pick of the litter at that point.
Tbh, I could see him in Arizona if he likes Kyler Murray. That feels like an interesting offensive connection. Otherwise, not really. Baltimore maybe, but that feels like a weird dynamic. Can't see McDaniel working in a cold weather city. 'Zona has the dome and everything, Murray feels like his kinda guy. They have MHJ. Who knows. I know the word has been that Arizona is out on Murray but maybe that was the prior regime.

Next up in the AFC should be the Steelers with Flores and McCarthy in for a visit.

I hope Flores gets his shot somewhere but this is probably a slam dunk for McCarthy getting the job given his playoff and SB experience, OC experience with young QBs... no offense to Flores but you don't put a defensive first time coach into the Steelers situation.

While Flores deserves his shot some of these "opportunities" like in Miami really suck so there will be more open positions in the future for sure.

Yup.

And now we see the Titans hiring Saleh who is like, a less competent Vrabel with a far worse record as a HC.

It all starts with ownership.

I hope Flores gets his shot. I figured Raiders, but they seem to be taking their time. Steelers is a tough job because they basically need to tank for a year or two to retool. Who wants to be that coach?

Having seen what Vrabel has done here, I wouldn't hire any coach who doesn't have a top-down vision for the entire football and personnel operation. The culture Vrabes quickly created is driving the success of this crazy season as much as anything. Everyone is buying in and performing well beyond expectations.

The funny thing about the Steelers HC job is that the more I zoom out on that franchise the more I feel that job isn’t that special. Everyone loves to talk about how they’ve only had three head coaches for 40 years, but when you look at those 40 years, you realize the mediocrity that Tomlin got fired for is the norm rather than the exception, other than the years they had Bradshaw or Roethlisberger.

Patsfans favorite mantra......other than those 6 Superbowls they/he sucked.

I have no idea how certain owners make HC hires. So many bad coaches, so many 2yr stints. So many bad teams stuck in instability.

We're so lucky to have RKK - who, even though he got stuck in a moment of wokeness - he corrected quickly and paid the price.
And now it appears that Vrabel could be here for quite a while. I'm not going to think anyone will last 20yrs again, but he could be here for the next 10, and that would be a great success.

I'm glad that the Phins made the move to sign Hafley before McDermott became available. Would have hated to see McDermott in Miami because I think he could have helped turn that Franchise around..

Should we be worried about Jeff Hafley bringing in playoff experience to Miami? He won the Fenway Bowl in 2023.
