I am not trying to compare any players, but just enjoying good young QB play.

This year, three 2nd year QBs are in the top 10 for yards and all in the playoffs. Last year Jayden Daniels showed that he can the guy to build around, he just needs to stay healthy. I love watching good QB play and now that I am older I realize that acknowledging a guy is good is not saying this guy is bad (like I did with Manning and Brady).

Nix and Sean Payton, Caleb and Ben Johnson both seem to be as strong a coupling as Maye and McD. I am very excited to this trio and hopefully Daniels win a ton in the next decade (Nix always coming up just shy of Maye of course). This post was really nothing more than applauding the accomplishments of the young QBs.

It’s a nice sentiment. I don’t need to tell you Josh and Drake are on a different level than the other folks. There will be plenty of folks behind me to do that. Looks like a great draft for QBs with a number of teams getting their QB of the future.

We are lucky to watch them all play

I would add Lawrence-Coen to your list.

Jayden Daniels was on a heater until he team got worse, CJ Stroud looked like the next great QB until his team got worse, last year Drake Maye was an afterthought.

Lesson here, keep the team around Drake strong and make sure you understand as a fan why QB’s look as good or bad as they do. It’s a team game.

THREE-PART TEAM
the QB,
the HC/OC and
management (that brings in supporting players to support the coach and QB).

Agreed - we're all ultimately football fans and we don't like bad football played by bad QBs. Heck, that's part of the reason I can't stand the Jets because they ruin so many decent QBs.

While injuries are a concern for guys like Daniels and McCarthy, they look like they have the talent. Penix's injury history will certainly have the Falcons looking to draft a new QB since the 2026 and 2027 drafts seem to have a few keepers as well.

Add to your list of 2024 QBs and you've also got a few from the earlier crop including Mac Jones and Daniel Jones turning the corner (assuming DJ comes back from injury). I wouldn't be surprised to see Mac Jones land with the Jets as they can afford to give up draft picks in a trade for him. It's a no risk one year rental while they wait and see who comes out in the draft, perhaps allowing them to position themselves to land Arch Manning the following season.

Add into that the top QBs in the league (of which Maye is clearly one of them) like Allen, Stafford, Love, Prescott etc. - and presumably we'll see Mahones and Jackson return closer to form - you've got a WEALTH of good and great QBs in today's NFL with the next two draft classes adding to that.

Ctpatsfan77's law of trading players:

Players have value to their teams above and beyond whatever draft compensation they bring on their departure.

Jones is very valuable to the 49ers right now, and on a cheap contract.

I agree.

Do you think that the 49ers should reject a first rounder offered for Jones?

As a great man once said, it is all a matter of price.

I think that there are several teams for whom Jones would be very valuable, worth more than he is to the 49ers as the top backup in the NFL.

Yeah; and Gumby’s law of modern NYJFL;
…..‘You need TWO QBs! ‘ (at least a 2d who can carry the water for 3-6 games).

It’s a sad commentary, but between Thur night football & 17 games. It is rare for a qb to play a full season now-a-days.
Had my doubts abou5 Dobbs, but in one emergency he did ok. Showed more what I expected vs jesters. Good thing Maye is a young Ironman.

Agree with sentiment, but Washington actually added players last off-season, their demise has been the Daniels injury. I think they actually got better as a team talent wise.

In the specific case of the 49ers, it's where that first rounder is - if it's in the 20s or later, absolutely not. If it's in the top 10, you have to consider it.

Mac Jones is too important to that team, when your starter is made of Waterford Crystal.

100%.
Jones most certainly has value as a backup on a very cheap deal, far below the average contract for a good backup.
But, the keyword is "backup".
If some team was to offer a 2nd or better than teams could easily view that pick as a potential starter, and a starter is inherently more valuable than a backup.
Plus, these GMs always trust they can replace people, backup QB most certainly included. Whether that be a pick in the draft, or identifying a FA.
I can't imagine the 9ers ever turning down a 2nd rd pick for Jones.
3rd....well then I would start to see the 9ers having some serious contemplations.

If Maye’s ascent continues, the gap between great years will be only 5 - an amazingly low amount when you look at other franchises.

13 wins (with a chance for 14) in yeast two ? I can’t not love it !

I agree.

No way.

John Lynch should fly to that teams headquarters and bring Jones with him.

His arm strength is still an issue.

Any team that would give up more than a 5th rounder for Mac Jones needs to have its head examined.
He was just a free agent looking around for a team.

I think Nix Williams and Maye have all proved to he good picks for their teams. I don't see how yelling about how they suck adds to the conversation. BUT Maye is clearly the only guy who ELEVATES the players around him, which is so extraordinary so early in his career. That is more important than how fast he throws the ball or scrambles. There are always going to be QB's who can throw the ball, complete passes and lead late game drives. But only a VERY few guys like say Brady, Mahomes, or even Rodgers who could turn guys like TBrown, Edelmam, and the dozens of nondescript WRs and TE's he played with over the years. Guys like Brady make their OLmen better, THIS is the single greatest accomplishment and what makes superior to the rest of the 24 class. That's not to say they won't a few years down the road. Usually, it takes 6' or 7 years before it gets to the point where a fan can see it happening

Maye seems to have speed run Brady's development from 2000 to 2006 into just two years.

Well don't think that we aren't going to see Maye suddenly show us no improvement the next few years. That he is a complete QB right now. He has a LOT to improve on. Compare his movement in the pockets to Williams. He is far more "escapable" than Maye. Maye has on occasion has run into sacks. Williams gets out of them with jump cuts. I haven't seen Maye use one yet. Hell, I haven't seen Henderson use one yet.

Brady worked very hard over the years to maximize what little talent he had in this area and he improved. I expect Maye to do the same. He might never reach the level Caleb has, but he can get as good as Allen. He is good at processing post snap, but it will get better. A lot better as the years go on.

To be fair, that frenetic movement that you mention Williams has (and I have watched him, it is frenetic), also leads to his accuracy issues, evidenced by his completion % which needs to improve drastically. I get what you're saying, but I will take less escapability and more accuracy any day.
