Our 2026 schedule just got a WHOLE lot tougher. Thanks a lot Drake!

I watched that presser, he was struggling to come up with a team to use as an example of weak and eventually tossed that out there. He's going to come back and apologize to them in his next presser, and I'm sure he will make a gesture to make amends. He probably feels bad about saying it.

I hope so.

Here is Kimes (who has vote) talking about why she voted Lamar last year and she said one of the reasons was strength of defense played (another example of being talked about before this year).

If she weighs that same criteria heavily, that would obv favour Stafford significantly.

She is very thorough tho, so one would hope/think she will dive deeper and look into pass defense specifically, where on avg Maye has played tougher opponents.

She also mentions things like rushing yards, passer rating, quality of Oline...etc, so I'm sure she will do her homework.

The season isn't over, why did she vote already.?

So, I took a look at TEAM DEFENSE stats to compare Lamb-Pats opponents for a Strength of Defense (SOD) comparison.

BL: There is no real difference in opponents SOD*…so, anyone using a SOS argument is full of excrement (FOS).
(* using all 17 teams even though no points on board yet for Cards or Phish games)….
Lamb-opponents: Avg: 16 total D & 18 in pass D
NEP opponents: Avg: 18 total D & 15 in pass D

[ for avg I totaled up opponents rankings & divided by 17: respectively to above: (275 & 315) vs (315 & 261).]
You could argue that for the main metric for QBs (passing D) Drake faced tougher Ds than Stafford, but to me is a wash.

I agree. Unfortunately, I feel it may be a bit too late to recant, as those guys over at Foxboro High will most certainly be licking their chops to play us now. It’s understandable, as Maye should know better than to provide any bulletin board material to such a formidable opponent; especially coming off a 40-week bye. They’ll be hungry, well rested & looking to make a statement against us. Hell, I wouldn’t be surprised if they consulted with Greg Williams as defensive assistant to put bounties on our star players; especially Maye with the “MVP” talk. It seems the hype has over caused him to develop an over inflated ego. He’s gotta use proper tact and discernment in these situations with the media in regards to opponents. More importantly, we HAVE to win this game for a number of reasons.

1) It’s a division rival.
2) If we have any postseason aspirations, we’ll need to test our mental toughness against a formidable opponent.
3) If we lose, we’ll have to hear how we haven’t beaten any good teams again, just like this season & won’t be taken seriously.
4) It’s a Week 1 game & those games are notoriously difficult to gauge due to lack of film, new schemes, players, coaches, conditioning etc…& we don’t want to fall behind in the division.

Drake put us in tough spot. It was already a terrible matchup for us, talent/coaching-wise & just became that much more onerous. It’s very likely that we lose this game, as their roster is littered with All-Pros & Vrabel couldn’t hold a candle to Coach Martinelli. Not to mention, they’ll have home field advantage. Now we’ll have to put up or shut up..I honestly see us 0-1 to start the season. First, he gets exposed for stealing at the school book fair in 2007, now this?!? Geez, just shut up already…smdh…

On second thought; maybe Brady for MVP???…

I just hope the same people who are harping on strength of schedule also are aware enough to realize that Maye’s weapons aren’t nearly as good as Stafford’s weapons. It’s a major point.

That's all we can really ask.
If you want to consider SOS that's fine, but look at everything collectively and make an informed objective decision.
We already know homers like Orlvosky will justify picking his buddy using the SOS argument.
Would hope the rest of the voters aren't so easily swayed as that.

Yes quick AI prompt

The "GOAT" Conversations
Mina has explicitly entertained and pushed the "Mahomes is the GOAT" conversation on multiple occasions, often arguing that his peak is higher than anyone else's in history.
"Can We Call Patrick Mahomes The GOAT?" (Feb 2024): leading up to Super Bowl LVIII, she featured segments on her show specifically titled around this question.
The "Better than Brady" Argument: On First Take and NFL Live, she has argued that while Tom Brady has the greatest career (longevity/rings), Mahomes is the best quarterback to ever play the position in terms of pure ability and performance. She frequently makes the distinction between "Greatest" (Brady) and "Best" (Mahomes), often leaning toward Mahomes as the superior player.
Thats her opinion, she’s not blatantly wrong.

Objectively this is clear. But MVP voting is subjective.

I appreciated the 12 greatest throws comment.

Maye has had some absolutely amazing passes this year. Just peak football passing.

And the block for Trey's TD was another stellar play as well.

A very very memorable year for Maye so far.

The voters won’t actually care about either. The strength of schedule was only a talking point this year because of the disparity / tiebreaker aspect. There’s always plenty of talk about the context, but probably less than 10% of voters will actually consider anything other than (1) win-loss record, (2) traditional stats, and (3) narrative / momentum at the time of voting.

There is kind of a Stafford agenda but not really. Maye is getting tons of accolades all across the league. As good as he’s been, he probably wouldn’t be MVP most seasons with his resume alone. Patriots offense is closer to league average than a top 20 decade team for production. It’s only his second year starting. On the 30:8 alone, this isn’t a powerful MVP case a lot of years.

I personally think Stafford is not an MVP level QB. He’s a very good QB but not an elite one. Maye, on the other hand, might be elite. Stafford isn’t. Rams running game and weapons are the biggest reason a 15 year veteran who has never been considered an MVP type of player, was suddenly transformed as “the overlooked superstar and clear Hall of Famer who has somehow never won MVP and now finally it’s his time.” The reality is Stafford is a really good player who has always been short of the level they’re referring to. Stafford MVP would have been pretty similar to Matt Ryan, though Stafford is a little better than Ryan.

Yes, take away accomplishments and go with simply the best pure quarterback for ability and performance. Take out the teams, supporting cast, coaching, luck, circumstances, etc.

Josh Allen is the best quarterback of this era. I don’t even see how there’s an argument otherwise.

Certain MVP voters have decided a month ago they're voting for Stafford regardless of what happens on the field.

Dan Orlovsky is documented on video saying he voted for Josh Allen over Lamar Jackson last year despite having worse stats in every category and had a bottom 8 strength of schedule cause he felt he "did more with less" over Lamar who played tougher competition and had a better team.

Now the weak schedule matters and doing more with less doesn't, people move the goal posts to give who they want to win.

Remember this is the guy who knows more than anyone about the QB position but ran 3 yards past the end zone boundary for a safety.

Stafford has had a great, Hall of Fame type career. This is his third 40+ TD pass season. He has over 63,000 yards passing, over 400 TD passes and under 200 INTs. He’s been a stud since his 3rd season. So this season is not a surprise. He deserves a ton of credit.

I will say another factor to vote for Maye is the massive turnaround from a 4 win season to a possible 14 win season. He was one of the biggest factors in that turnaround. The Rams were 10-7 last year, and are are 11-5 team so far this year. So not a huge difference, good team to good team. Patriots, awful team to excellent team.

Additionally, the NFL MVP has historically always been from the 1 or 2 seed and a division winner.

Only twice has the AP NFL MVP award gone to a QB on a team that didn’t win its division:2008 - Peyton Manning (Colts were the No. 5 seed).1967 - Johnny Unitas (11-1-2 Colts missed the playoffs)

If the voters looked at everything in depth, Maye should be the winner.

If you just look at tradition passing stats in a vacuum, then Stafford has better numbers in a few key categories (passing yards, passing tds, td/int ratio). Maye obv has the better completion percentage.

I don't know who all the voters are and what criteria they consider the most important.
