The Chiefs are moving from Missouri to Kansas into a domed stadium

Houston had a Super Bowl in 2004 and 2017.

Phoenix had a Super Bowl in 2008 and 2015.
Ok, so average of 7, 13 = 10 instead of my (LOL) 20 year guesstimate. Still unless they build this new thing by the Stockyard (so you can at least go out for a good steak); no SB wants to come to ass-cold KS in February.

I find it a shame for good old football nostalgia; but they want to use the stadiums in the other 6 months for concert venues etc; so this closed (albeit retractable) stadium is the 90% future. Hopefully just makes the Gillette outdoor home-field advantage that much better as more & more teams go AC-climatized.

To host a Super Bowl, NFL criteria states that the stadium must have a roof in cold climates.

It will be retractable

.
Remember when Goondell lifted the weather ban on the SB so the Jets and Giants fans would scoop up the PSL's at their new stadium? I almost felt bad for the Jets fans who got sucked in. Almost.

As I've joked before: imagine if Gillette were the first domed stadium where it snowed every game.

Looking forward to going to Kansas for Superbowl week!

In both cases the parties involved - citizens and business owners - had appropriate priorities, in my opinion.

The source of payment makes me question why you think the KS citizens have the appropriate priorities.

... a council of Kansas lawmakers voted unanimously to allow for sales tax and revenue (STAR) bonds to be issued to cover up to 70% of the cost of the stadium and accompanying mixed-use district. The bonds, which are estimated to be around $2.4 billion, will be paid off with state sales and liquor tax revenues generated in a defined area around it. Chiefs owner Clark Hunt said the family will commit $1 billion in additional development, a portion of which can also be incentivized by the STAR bonds.

To me it's just another bunch of taxpayers being sold a bill of goods by a bunch of lawmakers that have an inferiority complex.

Some grandma on the other side of KS is gonna have to kick in so Clark **** doesn't have to spend his own money.

If it actually was a good deal for the taxpayers, then the ****s would not be accepting the offer, they'd be cashing in on it themselves.

Whatever you want to say about Kraft, dude put his money where his mouth was. He wanted to keep the team in Massachusetts. I admit to not knowing the complete timeline, but if he was SERIOUS about moving the team and making more money for himself in the process, he could have done so eventually. I mean, my stupid state (Connecticut) was giving him stupid amounts of money to come here. Yet, Kraft used this as leverage to...accept a worse deal in Foxboro. Paying for the stadium himself, and the state only paying for (debatable as they turned out to be) improvements to the surrounding infrastructure.

I agree on all counts: Kraft was working all the angles, CT has the exact kind of inferiority complex that was easy to work, the only thing the public should fund is the infrastructure (roads and sewers) that they typically fund for most large developments, and in the end Kraft should be praised for what he did for the team and the region.

So could KC MO officials come back and offer them a deal they can't refuse?

The KC MO taxpayers voted down a ballot initiative to pay for a stadium.

I don't think there's any coming back from that.

Same thing happened in San Diego and Oakland: once the voters said go **** yourself the owners said we better find some dumber taxpayers.

The Cheeves will be so "yesterday" to her minions after KelMLS club Sporting Kansas Citye (a/k/a Mr. Swift) retires. That guy will be going through a major identity crisis when his own spotlight fades.
Why would it fade?
Kelce's "brand" is far bigger than every player not named Brady, and both Madison Avenue & the Networks will be pursuing him at all costs, if he chooses that path.
The future wife seems to dig men in the spotlight, and maybe the prenup will require him to have a day job.

Apologies for the amibiguity; I was referring to the citizens of Missouri collectively saying no the sports team owners.

How do you think they got to be billionaires in the first place?
They inherited it and then want to talk about their hard work.

IIRC Kraft married it.

Of course what he got was nothing compared to the inheritance that Clark Hunt, Woody Johnson, the Waltons etc got.

Clearly Bob did have to put in the hours early in his marriage or his little paper goods company wasn't going to be able to provide the cash that allowed him to buy that stadium with its aluminum benches out of bankruptcy court.

It would fade because (A) he no longer is playing football and (B) lacks a distinctive personality, unlike his older brother. The guy is pretty dense minus Gronk's lovable charisma. I doubt he is as bankable as you presume, but we shall see; his reputation to date is less than stellar.

His public persona has earned the dreaded "code-switcher" tag, changing according to whichever way the wind blows.

You coukd not be more mistaken.

KC was already awarded a Super Bowl in 2015 contigent on a roof over Arrowhead. Indianapolis is basically on the same latitude as KC and they hosted a Super Bowl. Most fans are not snowflakes and can handle any kind of weather. They adapt to the conditions. I've been to 7 Suoer Bowls and know all too well.

The world class BBQ alone draws people from everywhere to KC. Any month of the year.

Same GIF for me seeing people not wanting to take in that they are being ****ed over by the rich...

Because, you know, they're gonna be rich some day and doing the ****ing, so...

Bruh, Kansas city is flyover country. Always will be.

Pretending it's a "destination" is hilarious. It's a slightly larger Omaha or Dubuquse.

Stan Kronke thought so much of the Midwest that he moved the Rams from STL to LA and didn't GAF about the consequences.

The Chiefs are leaving Kansas city Missouri for a city in Kansas. That whole scenario of naming a city Kansas in Missouri always sounded like inbreeding. If it is not in a city anymore are they just the Kansas Chiefs? Or the Kansas town Chiefs?
I love that! the Kansas Town Chiefs
