It's easy, and only takes a few moments.I’m hoping that Drake is grounded enough that he recognizes he will get generational wealth without needing to extract every dollar, and takes a page out of Brady’s book and leaves some money on the table to allow the Pats to have a better team around him.
I don't think Gonzo's price went up. He's going to get a top of the position contract regardless. He was already maxed out.
It literally went up. The pro bowl choice hit an escalatior in his contract, 5th year option is now 17 mil instead of 11 mil.I don't think Gonzo's price went up. He's going to get a top of the position contract regardless. He was already maxed out.
Brady was also married to a woman who made more money than he did.I too hope Maye looks big picture and he certainly seems like he has head on straight.
Don't kid yourself though, Brady did okay money wise. He structured his contracts in a team friendly way but Kraft also paid him big with upfront cash every time he tore up his contract. In spite of starting out as a 6th round pick Brady finished playing having made more than anyone not named Manning and both Paid-a-ton and Eli were #1 overall picks. Don't get me wrong, Brady certainly could have held up the Pats for more to the detriment of his team but he did okay for himself. Those rings he won playing under team friendly terms also didn't exactly hurt when it came to making money outside the game itself either.
I'm referring to Marcus Jones.Chris Jones got in and he is doing it off of reputation. He hasn't been all that great this season and Williams has outplayed him.
Most of the voting was done before Williams went to IR. It is a case of the Pro Bowl vote favoring legacy elite players over guys who haven't been at the top of their position before this year.
Doesn't the selection raise Maye's salary, too? Or did I read that wrong? It literally went up. The pro bowl choice hit an escalatior in his contract, 5th year option is now 17 mil instead of 11 mil.
That myth has been debunked by Former NFL Exec Andrew Brandt. He talks about Brady's case regularly and what he did only helped the Kraft's. Tom took less money for absolutely no reason.I’m hoping that Drake is grounded enough that he recognizes he will get generational wealth without needing to extract every dollar, and takes a page out of Brady’s book and leaves some money on the table to allow the Pats to have a better team around him.
No he is definitely right about the price going up for Gonzo, the fact that Pro Bowl is based on fan voting is irrelevant, a Pro Bowl is a common incentive included in player contracts (I am sure the next contract we give Maye in about 18 months will have plenty of these clauses). It's unfortunate too because I think Gonzo is having a down year by his standards. He would still be the top corner on about 20 teams, but he is NOT having a top 3 corner year. Not sure about that. I believe the pro bowl is a fan voting contest. The Patriots have a large fan base and these two are the most popular players on the team.
To be clear, Maye fully deserves pro bowl recognition. Not quite sure about Gonzalez.
Yes, but I'm assuming it never gets to that. They have to sign this guy to a contract in the next year. He'll never see his 5th year optionIt literally went up. The pro bowl choice hit an escalatior in his contract, 5th year option is now 17 mil instead of 11 mil.
I dunno about that...Better than down.
No. 2/3rds of the vote calc come from coaches and players. Peers and those who study them. You could argue it's a better validation of excellence than the All-Pro selections (media)Pro Bowl means **** - Mac Jones was a "Pro Bowler". Maye should garner serious All Pro team consideration after the performance vs Baltimore coupled with his exemplary performances in almost every game (other than the last Buffalo game). Gonzalez? No ints and he's a "pro bowler" seems SUS, as the kiddos say these days. Fans have no business voting in any all star anything.
Down means he sucks or had a major injuryI dunno about that...
He is gonna want to be the top paid CB in the league now and I am not sure he has played like it all year.
Not necessarily, he could just have lingering injuries all year and may have brought his value down to being paid like a top 10 CB vs top 1 CB.Down means he sucks or had a major injury
It has raised Maye's fifth-year option as well, and by even more: using this year's numbers, it went up ~$17M, from $22.9M to $39.7M. Another Pro Bowl next year would push it up even further, to the franchise tender amount.Doesn't the selection raise Maye's salary, too? Or did I read that wrong?
Injuries diminish value. Splitting hairs here. Not necessarily, he could just have lingering injuries all year and may have brought his value down to being paid like a top 10 CB vs top 1 CB.
I'm referring to Marcus Jones.
That really depends on his agent. I severely doubt we'll ever see a QB take steep 'hometown' discount' like Brady did ever again. The window to compete is while Drake is still on his rookie deal. After that he will get paid what he deserves. If not with us, then with someone else. I trust Kraft won't cheap out when it comes to securing the franchise QB.I’m hoping that Drake is grounded enough that he recognizes he will get generational wealth without needing to extract every dollar, and takes a page out of Brady’s book and leaves some money on the table to allow the Pats to have a better team around him.
Since he made the Pro Bowl, Gonzo's 5th year signing price automatically goes up.I don't think Gonzo's price went up. He's going to get a top of the position contract regardless. He was already maxed out.
