I agree and there is a fair chance that he will take a reasonable deal that will create 3 generation wealth with his signing bonus, but cost "only" 38-44MM/yr. It can be a 5 year deal which gives him another bite at the apple before he's 30, or a 10 year deal which means at some point in the deal it will be a bargain, but makes sure no one in his blood line ever has to work again before he's 36.

HOWEVER, he is going to get a LOT pressure from the union to try and get the max, or what can be viewed as the max. In the union's view (and I use the term "union" loosely) it's his obligation to raise the boat higher, because in their narrow view as QB wages go up, so does everyone else's. IMO this is why the gap between the highest paid at each position and the middle class keeps growing.
The real pressure will be on the patriots. They can pay him the option price for this 5th year and franchise him once. The laternative of a long-term contract would mean to expecting him to carry the team with an ever weaker supporting cast, as is the case in BUF and KC.

What teams are continuing to succeed while continuing to paying their QB over $40M a year?

That myth has been debunked by Former NFL Exec Andrew Brandt. He talks about Brady's case regularly and what he did only helped the Kraft's. Tom took less money for absolutely no reason.

More video's on cap:

How dumb and narrow of Brandt. Brady was the top paid QB until Rodgers got more around 2012 or so. And it wasn't until 2019-22 that QB salaries started to EXPLODE from the $20MMs to the $50MMs of today and higher. But it is not like Kraft pocketed that $100MM assuming that is true, he was using that money to spend on the REST of the roster as the Pats were usually spending up to the cap limits to the point where by 2020 they could only afford a $1MM QB and were still slammed up against the cap for the next couple of years because of past deals during that 2013-19 runs that saw 6 playoff appearances, 5 AFCCG's, 4 superbowls and 3 championships in 6 years

Finally the last 2 years we've had significant amount of caps space the the Krafts have spent a lot, if not always as wisely as they did this year. (now that I think on it, didn't they spend a lot in 21? too)

My guess is that Brady was never out of the top 5 QB's after that 2012 contract

Agreed.

Of course, when you are at the point that when teams need to get rid of bad contracts, they need to add assets to get another team to take your bad contracts, that suggests that contracts are out of whack.

Right now the Dolphins are stuck overpaying Tua.

Who wants him?

We are SO lucky that Maye is not only a generational talent on the field he seems he may be generational off the field.

So, the top QB in the history of the leagues was never lower than top 5. The GOAT doesn't deserve better?
===========

The point is really very simple. Brady could have gotten much more chose not to push for much more.

That Brady and his agent continue to convince the public that he got as much as he could have is a tribute to their powers of persuasion.

Some players try to get themselves as much as they can every year; some do not. Some of this is a consequence of the relationship between the player and the owners.

I think that we should continue to thank Brady for taking a bit less and thereby helping the team to be more likely to succeed.

CURRENT EXAMPLES
Lamar took every cent he could get. If he had taken less, IMO, it would have greatly helped the team have better results in 2026.

The hated Rodgers left lots of money on the table. The playoffs were more important to him. PIT would have not had a chance if he had maxed his compensation.

I can't imagine he'll end up at a contract that low; Schefter has guessed he could get $65M+. Heck, if he makes another Pro Bowl, his option will be significantly more than $44M.

I could see a contract with that as the base and huge incentives for playoff wins, but even that seems unlikely.

All this talk about QB contracts. If the Patriots currently had prime 30 year old Tom Brady and he wanted the most money, what would his contract look like. 75 million per year?

At that stage of his career, he was 3/3 in SB's and about to finish up an undefeated season with an MVP award.

If he keeps up this level of play and agrees to 44 million per year, the union would be irate. As would representatives for Nix and Daniels. Assuming Maye signed first.

Joe Thuney made the Pro Bowl again.

This guy has been on 5 All-Pro teams in 9 years.

Also made 7 Super Bowls in 9 years.

Also won 5 Super Bowl rings.

He leaves teams and they immediately go in the dumps.

He joins a team like the Bears and suddenly they're 11-4.

And oh yes, he's remarkably healthy all the time as he appears to have only missed 2 games in his 10 year career.

The only thing you can have against him is that he spent a few extra years in college and so he started as a rookie at the age of 24. He's almost 34 now.
I wanted the Pats to keep him forever, they felt they could move on and the Oline suffered for years.

They chose Shaq Mason over him. They shouldn't have. They doled out 2 huge contracts.

Big mistake.

Signing Mason was bizarre when Thuney had been established enough by then. Thuney would've been a really nice addition this year to help Campbell.

So players still get selected or voted to a game that is no longer played.
