OT: Matthew Judon Being Waived in Miami

If they were cutting him to "send a message" because he was going through the motions or whatever there and being a bad example, it doesn't really make sense that they waited until they were eliminated from playoff contention to do that. What message is there to send now?

The timing of his release actually points to the opposite, IMO. It seems to point to that even if he stinks now, he's been a good soldier and since he's inconsequential to their team at this point they'll do right by him and let him see if he can latch on with a contender that maybe rejuvenates his play some.
MIA is doing Judon a real solid.

They are giving him a chance to play on a playoff team for potential playoff team if any team wants him even as an emergency player for their playoff run.

You understand that this is their business, right? Judon's business has been good. 77m in the bank. Not all the guys in the NFL are motivated to win. Some want the checks. Judon's checks are smaller than they've been, he's 34 and likely has other life interests. Football may not be his priority anymore.

It's possible.
However, Judon is being given a chance to possibly play in one more playoff run.

Experts running wild this Thread; like Judon couldn't be motivated on a Playoffs Team.
Motivation only goes so far. He's played 40.7 of the defensive snaps for MIA (337 snaps total for him) and has zero sacks. He's only hit the QB three times all year too. That's dreadful. Hard to think a player like that has much pass rush juice left.

I'm sure playing for a contender would be somewhat motivating for him and he wouldn't be the first guy to be rejuvenated in that situation. It's a toooooooooooooough sell though IMO. I'm sure they'll look at it, but I wouldn't hold my breath on them evaluating him positively and wanting to sign him.

Not holding breath: also not saying the guy is the next LT. But he has to be better than a lowly Practice Squadder I think.

And not only that, it’s more probable than not, like way more probable based on what he’s done the past couple of seasons that he is physically done!
It’s laughable how we have people saying “he has experience”. So ****ing what, his body is not able, it’s more than evident.

Not a matter of being an expert, he’s cooked. That’s all there is to it. He has experience, so does Lawrence Taylor, maybe we should bring him in.
Judon is not better than Swinson at this point, and definitely not Ponder.
In what world does it make sense to bring in a former malcontent who no longer can play?
Exactly. And I didn't post it with that intention. I posted it primarily because it was newsworthy, but only because the Patriots face them in a couple of weeks.

That Dollyfins team was an absolute undisciplined mess on both sides of the ball. Tua got benched and Judon got cut, the message seems obvious, play like your job depends on it the rest of the way out

Andre Tippett has experience too

I agree. What are the alternatives? Judon experience has to count for something

It counted for $omething alright, $6M of Miami's money after flaming out in Atlanta

Yup. I use to be a damn good hockey player when I was younger.
Still play but I’m 55 and way slower now.
But I have experience

No thanks: give Me Judon or give me death.

This is interesting - wonder why they're relasing him now?

He played 23 snaps against the Steelers (35%) and finished with a tackle. He's got 16 tackles for the season, 3 QB hits, one tackle for a loss, and a pass defended. And they've had him playing special teams.

One number that obviously stands out: Zero sacks.

But again, it's just weird that they're letting him go now.

I think they are trying way, way, way too late to pretend they have high standards, discipline and no one’s job is safe.
Tua benched. Judon is probably the guy they chose to cut because he had the lowest cap loss among veterans and was well liked in the locker room.
A way to strike fear into players by an organization who really has no clue how to.

Not really IMO. Dude's made a chunk of money, and he's making the least amount of money he's made since 2019. He's played on losing teams since 2022. I bet there's a high amount of "eff this" going on. Takes a special individual to have the drive to keep going, power thru and get the next deal.
I don’t agree that it’s a lack of caring or drive. If you F off you get pounded by a 300 lb guy in this league. You can coast in a sport of collisions.

I see if from the opposite angle. Think of playing DE as the equivalent of boxing (and the lightweight guys who throw tons of punches are probably the best analogy) It’s you against another man one on one, do or die.
The guys who succeed at that aren’t motivated they are above and beyond motivated, they put every ounce they have into it.
At some point a guy like Judon doesn’t became unmotivated he just became normally motivated. It’s not being lazy, it’s giving it 100% but not having the edge.
It’s like a normal guy doing a work out first thing in the morning in a great mood vs after a long day or with the flu. Motivation is still there but that extra is gone.

They're gonna blow that thing up entirely. I expect Tua to be waived.

This is not 2021 Judon playing for Bill. This is 2025 Judon with maybe $70m in the bank. Even if he can physically do it, does he have it mentally? I agree with @TommyD4207, he looks washed. I agree with @maust as well. Miami is an undisciplined mess under McDaniel. I'm guessing he's worn down physically and mentally. Cut the guy with no desire, going thru the motions and send a message. If all these theories are true, I don't want that guy anywhere near this team.

Remember this is the guy who sat his ass on bags as the new coach tried to get control of the team. All set. I 100% question his desire at this point in his career.
Vrabel made a point of getting rid of the good locker room influences from last year. There is no way he is bringing Judon back, especially at his current level of play.

Judon off the edge would most certainly strike fear into the hearts of oppo…..fans..
