Drake Maye Thread (Bills Forum)

In case you haven't heard, sports message boards are for debating opinions regarding sports. I'm well aware that you're above it all.

Looking down from your high pony, I stand by my opinion that Mahomes will never be the GOAT.

Huh? I wasn’t making fun of anybody for debating the topic. The opposite, in fact! I was saying ALL fans talk about this stuff, in response to the idea that it was weird for Bills fans to talk about Allen vs. Maye. I mean, for years Manning vs. Brady was the sports fan’s Kirk vs. Picard.

Partly because the beer and hotdog fan seating will now be luxury boxes.

In 2008 there were tentative plans to move the Bills over to Toronto where Global 500 companies have headquarters, but then the Great Recession hit.
What are you two talking about?

They are building a new stadium. They are locked in. You think Pegula took $1bn from the taxpayers and then more from the NFL in order to sell the team somewhere? They are locked down and can't move. There is no buyout.

They have an agreement that the earliest they can leave Buffalo is 2025.

As for the reason they played a game in Toronto, it's not because they wanted to move the team there. Wilson was explicitly against it, and in fact, he has a $500m foundation in Buffalo that is constantly donating money every year. The reason they played in Toronto is because 20% of the season ticket holders in Orchard Park are from Canada. I've sat next to people with season tickets who would make the drive down from Ottawa. The games in Toronto were done as a perk for 20% of the season ticket holders. However, the Canadian fanbase let it be known that they much preferred attending games in Buffalo.

There's a lot of interplay between the two cities. Buffalo has the Blue Jays AAA team, which is why, during Covid, the Blue Jays played all their home games in Buffalo. The cities are only 1:15 minutes apart.

Wasn't there also more of a mixed bag at those games fans-wise? Road teams would get just as much support as the Bills and that's one reason why they didn't continue with it? I thought I read that somewhere... I can't imagine the teams that played the Bills were high draw teams either.

They might've been high draw teams because the games were always in late December. So it would depend on the NFL schedule.

But the Bills have an in-built fanbase in Southern Ontario. 15k season ticket holders. Maybe double that in Bills fans at Toronto (20-30k. The stadium only holds 50k so I suppose the crowd would be mixed with 60-70% supporting the Bills.

At one point Trump and Bon Jovi got together to buy the Bills to move them to Toronto, but when the Wilsons got wind of that, they closed ranks around the Toronto games and put an end to them (I take it the Toronto / Rogers Centre people were in on it with Trump and Bon Jovi). The Wilsons got word and nixed it, and the NFL steered the franchise away from the Bon Jovi / Trump group.

Drake Maye is substantially better than Josh Allen by year two… now Allen has a Hollywood girlfriend… the Bills window is rapidly closing.
That, plus all the TV ads. Once you start seeing those, you know the focus is slipping.

You know deep down Bills fans are anxious for the next showdown at Gillette. It's going to say a lot about their window.
I don’t think it’s a deep down thing, they should be open about it. Pats fans too. With the first game it was can the pats hang with the Bills? Now we’re on top. It’s a huge game for both teams.

Imagine a rout either way? Crazy how perceptions would be changed. Probably be close though.

You need to consider the source here. @Triumph requires remedial instruction for most rudimentary concepts. Plus, the vacant sap lives in Kansas (not sure if that's voluntary).

Lovely. Will enjoy tonight
My favorite was one of their fans who proclaimed that we were saying Mac Jones is the next Brady. I don't know where got that but it sure wasn't here. Nobody's even proclaiming that about Maye.

I can't hate on Buffalo, and I know its fun to clown because they lost 4 consecutive SBs. Its still very impressive that they made it to 4 consecutive SBs. It does make me feel good though that they did not win any of those
I was rooting hard for them in every single SB. It's almost 100% AFL vs NFL for me.

Speaking of AFL vs NFL, there's been an incredible comeback this year for the AFC vs the NFC. They were down by 14 or 15 games early and here they are now within 1 game at 31-32. If the AFC takes it this year it'll be the 33rd time in 56 years that the AFC has won the yearly head-to-head competition and they'll be up all-time by just under 100 games.

The AFL rules!

Thing about the Bills is — I can never really bring myself to hate them of their fans. During the post-Brady/BB lull, I never felt they were in the same category of disdain as the Chiefs, Steelers, Ravens, Colts and even the Broncos — as far "please don't let THEM win it..." I would have been good with a Bills title (or Bengals) in that stretch. Allen seems a cool guy and the fans well, they live in and around Buffalo so ... That said happy to see the Pats return them to star-crossed status.
Agreed.

Buffalo fans know their football.

They've been long tortured by "wide right" flashbacks, but not only do they faithfully show up, they do so at an outdoor stadium in sub zero conditions and even help shovel the stadium. (For those of us who remember the aluminum bleachers at Schaefer Stadium in December that just sucked the heat from your ass - respect.)

I remember when Josh Allen first came on the scene too and by his 2nd season it was clear, he's the real deal.

Most Buffalo fans being football savvy can see the same thing with Maye

And frankly, comparisons between Maye and Allen aren't that far off - though Maye's hyper accuracy looks like it could take him to another level. I'd suggest he watch some Allen tape to see how Allen's developed into a pocket passer first, using the run wisely and making sure he slides!

The bills are jinxed - the 4 lost Superbowls in a row is a bitter legacy. Makes people forget about the "Music City Miracle", another ignominious playoff exit a decade later in unbelievable fashion...

Pats should put up a billboard in Orchard Park NY like what they did in Foxboro a few years back.

Nah, that's bush-league stuff. Anyway, I think their fans did that or some corporate entity maybe, not the team itself.

Should read earliest they can move is 2055.
