Patriots Player Departure Keion White traded

Austin became a liability with increased playing time when Gonzo was out. He was costing the team with his penalties. The zone coverage exposed him more than helped him.. I thought for sure he'd build on his strong offseason..now he's a STs, depth CB instead of a regular player in the rotation in the secondary..
Austin's last good year was the year we played a lot of man. 2023. So, you're absolutely right that he seems lost in zone.

Personally I think he has outstanding athletic ability which allows him to be pretty decent in man (like a JC Jackson) but he is definitely lost in zone coverage.

After White was traded, I meant to say, sorry.
All good, to your point I think that he adequately filled Whites spot because we aren't getting much out of Ponder or Swinson on a play to play basis. I know Ponder has a couple of sacks, but my point is White didn't do much when he played.

Agreed. Why we are playing zone against the likes or slow Joe Flacco is mind boggling.. you'd think seeing us make plays multiple times in man.. would be great thing to immulate... gonzo needs to go to Vrabel like ty went to BB and say" this **** here ain't working "...
We are 10-2 and have a top 5 defense. Vrabel would laugh at him because this **** is working.

Gonzalez is on a team that has already won as many games as he as ever has in a season is going to go up to his 9-2 coach and say “This **** here ain’t working”

Child, please.

Posts like this make me wonder if folks like yourself actually watch games.

"This **** here ain't working" - They're 10-2, winners of 9 straight, undefeated on the road.

Haven’t you been following the thread about Gonzo’s terrible season?

Ignore the standings. Things are in a shambles, defense is reeling, we are in a heap of trouble. No matter what our record says.

Post responses like this make me wonder if you're actually paying attention to the conversations at hand.. the post was a response to commentary on ty law saying that whenever a coverage wasn't working and they were giving up plays he would go to crennel or Belichick he and Bruschi and have no problem telling them **** wasn't working.. come on homie.. you're a smart poster..

If you want to get down deep, there's always things that are off with execution. If there were never any issues, you'd go undefeated. There will always be things to improve. Every team has areas of COMPARATIVE strengths and weaknesses.

N strikes again and his followers.. why don't you try reading the actual thread and you'll see what it actually entails and what I actually said.. or you could just continue to post surf and blindy reply.. cmon first Tommy and now you N.. cmon man.. friendly fire here...

This type of logic and measured approach will NEVER work here ! Be gone with your sensible words and reasonable thoughts !

You right the defense is perfect.. what was I actually thinking... do yourself a favor and actually read the conversation.. has nothing to do with what you're implying i said.. anyways moving along.

Agreed.. some posters are really not paying attention the thread is about what Callahan and Giardi said in the YouTube video posted.. I happen to disagree with Giardi and I even posted in support of Gonzo.. somehow some posters got butt hurt..

A couple of things:

1) if a bunch of people make fun of your post, maybe it is your post that is the issue and not everyone else.

2) Ty Law’s stories are probably just that- stories, not actual events. Before 2001, Ty had been in the league 6 years and had been to 1 Pro-Bowl. If he went up to Belichick and said”This **** ain’t working,” he’d likely be on the bench. He became a regular pro-bowler by embracing Bill’s ideas, not rejecting them.

Similarly, Tedy Bruschi wasn’t even a full time starter in 2001. He wasn’t telling Bill how to run the defense.

Maybe in 2004, after they had won a couple, been more established and had 14-2 seasons- maybe then. But in 2001- no.

That is why your post was a clown show post- even for you. On a 9-2 team where the defense gives up 13 points for a game (Maye had a pick 6), no head coach who has had any success is going to listen to a player who has ever been part of a winner say “This **** ain’t working”- especially when he gives up the only TD the defense allows.

"this **** ain't working" also needs to be taken in context.
it need not be a comment on the seasons defense. or even a specific game's defense.
an easy case in point was the Atl game and how D London went off for 9 rcpts and 3 td's.
for a CB to say to his position coach, coordinator or HV, "this **** ain't working" should be expected, no?

Well let me say this. Everyone is entitled to thier own opinions and of people took the time to read what I said about gonzo and actually see thet my post was in support of gonzo and in disagreement with Callahan and Giardi.. I take it your a new poster here so just wanted to welcome you to the forum first off..

The comments were based off a conversation piece with myself and @captain stone who's a great poster in his own right. It was derived off while in-game if a certain coverage wasn't working and it's allowing for big plays would gonzo say to kurh that it's not working.

Go back and look at the YouTube video and then proof read what I initially said in the thread is all I'm saying there.

Actually here you go:

Gonzo isn't the personality ty law was or the pedigree of player yet he was so of course he wouldn't do it.. that era of football was far different than today.. but the great ty law is on WEEI every Tuesday.. I'd urge posters to tune in..he great commentary and tells it like it is.. they are on twitch as well. Again the comments were based off a coverage.. and it's been taking faaaaaaaar out of hand..

Real my only issue with your posts is you say you understand why they are running zone (bad LB S coverage skills, mixing it up so the O doesn't know what's coming) and yet you bang the man drum again and again and again and again and again like we haven't heard you say the same thing almost verbatim 100 times. So which is it? You understand or you need someone else to respond with the same tired cliches? Like it or not a part of the reason this team is 10-2 is the coaching staff is doing an excellent job of working with what they have. They need another off-season or two to get to what we have is what we need.

Paz,

Fair enough statement. Yes I do understand why however it still drives me crazy.. but I've accepted it. they play zone to make up for the LBs in coverage.. now the recent thread on Gonzo is in support..of gonzo.. posting what Callahan and Giardi said and getting posters comments that is all.. seems you're choosing to overlook what I said and focusing on comments between myself and the captain.. of course they need another off season.. they are an evolving team that's out themselves in great position this season. Very impressive..

I’ve got followers?!?! Oh **** we’re in a heap of trouble now!

Sorry, but I can’t get past hearing BB’s likely response in my mind, in his most gravelly growl:
“Bill, this **** ain’t working”
“It’s not working because you’re not doing your job. Just cover your man damnit.”
<conversation ends>

I didn’t see him out there yesterday.
