They're giving up 20 pounds. Our DEs are light.

It's very impressive the way Vrabel has our whole secondary playing so hard. I honestly have never seen anything like it.

We always had strong safeties who stuck their nose in the thick of things (Milloy, Chung, Rodney, Peppers, even Dugger) but these CBs are fearless, much more than any CBs we've ever had, more than Law, Gilmore, Asante etc.
Law was a very physical CB.. but obviously he played in a different type of defense..

If you notice whenever we play man we get off the field or a pass is incomplete.. Vrabel said he'd like to play cat coverage.. he has the cats..now play the coverage... I say..

I've noticed we play zone in the early downs and man on 3rd downs. If an OC were smart, they would go pass heavy on 1st and second downs against our defense. Our zone would be decent if we could generate pressure but since we don't, good QBs are going to find the easy completions.

Perfect analysis there. On the GDT.. I'm sure posters get annoyed..but i constantly have said the zone is a problem for us.. I get why kurh is calling it..because of the LBs in coverage.. however the safety play has gotten remarkably better and kurh needs to start trusting them more.

Zone allows even for even a middling or bottom tier offenses to stay in rhythm.. if a team is getting 8,9 yards on first and second down.. then you're stressing the defense..

We generate pressure but not at an effective rate.. we move QBs off thier spot but due to the openings in soft zone it's easy completions..

Whenever we go to man.. more often than not it's a pass break up or a coverage sack, or something good happens. We don't allow teams in the red zone alot but when we do they score.. as mentioned in my post.. Davis ans Gonzo's strengths as outside CBs are being physical man CBs.. the constant switching affects thier technique and WR's can take advantage..

If u look at Denver.. Payton allows surtain to stay in man primarily.. that's his strength.. Vance Joseph isn't asking Surtain to constantly switch up.. you want to maximize your best players strength..

Instead of White, Vrabel to give the 15-30 reps to Jennings.

Vrabel chose 7 EDGE/OLB players over White.

CHAISSON, LANDRY
JENNINGS, PONDER
SWINSON., MURPHY
with TAVAI occasionally take a rep at EDGE/OLB

PLUS, of course the LB's in the middle: Spillane, Ellis, Gibbens, and Mapu

That gang of 7 overall kinda Sucks. We need Two new starters at Edge by this time next year.

Zone coverage is a sound concept vs running QBs like Justin Fields et al. Why we were playing M2M against him however is still a mystery...

Agreed. Why we are playing zone against the likes or slow Joe Flacco is mind boggling.. you'd think seeing us make plays multiple times in man.. would be great thing to immulate... gonzo needs to go to Vrabel like ty went to BB and say" this **** here ain't working "...

White's been active for 5 SF games. Two more and the Pats get to keep the 7th round pick.
White has only been active for 4 SF games as he was traded 10/28. Therefore, he needs to be active for 3 more for us to get the 7th round pick back.

Automatic Austin is your next man up.. or kobee minor league... or lost in the woods?...
???
Woods has been the backup CB since the day he got here (before Game One). It took him a few weeks to learn the system. Austin had ZERO reps after Game 4.

We've elevated several CB's so far thi year, including Minor and Battle. Battle is now on the 53 replacing Austin.

Austin became a liability with increased playing time when Gonzo was out. He was costing the team with his penalties. The zone coverage exposed him more than helped him.. I thought for sure he'd build on his strong offseason..now he's a STs, depth CB instead of a regular player in the rotation in the secondary..

Whatever happened to DJ James?

He looked like a find in training camp.
