Are we currently the best team in the NFL?

The Athletic's rankings seem about right to me. Put the top 10 in a playoff format at neutral sites and I think this is how it would likely shake out.

  1. Eagles
  2. Rams
  3. Seahawks
  4. Colts
  5. Lions
  6. Patriots
  7. Broncos
  8. Bucs
I don’t really think the eagles are better than us rn

If you take a look at the schedule, in the end the Pats supposed lack of "schedule strength" fades away given what teams are today.

The Pats number of quality wins compares well to any team - if anyone the Broncos maybe have more quality wins but the Pats are right up there as nearly every good team has played their fair share of games against teams like the Titans, Fins, Browns, Jets etc.

One does need to worry that Maye has been able to overcome his and the teams many many mistakes to get their wins - but that's resliency.

Patriots are the second 8-2 team in history to have a negative DVOA. The 2022 Vikings had one--lost to the Daboll/Jones led Giants in round one.

A caller on 98.5 mentioned it.

Take whatever info you want from that. It can be misleading.

The Vikes with choke artist Kirk Cousins: yeah I'm going to lay my hat on that...not!

With all due respect to the OP, I think the question can be approach with more nuance:

- The Eagles have the most talented and deepest roster, but they are definitely not playing the best right now
- The Eagles and Chiefs are the scariest, but both have aging stars, are riding on past performance, and are very inconsistent
- The Seahawks and Rams are probably playing the best football right now

As for the Patriots:

- They are the most consistent
- The are among the most explosive. They can score from anywhere by pass, run, or ST
- They are among the most balanced
- They are among the best-coached
- They have one of, if not the, best QBs

I'll take their chances against any team on any given day.

I take it as DVOA isn’t a very compelling statistic

Stay healthy, keep developing the youngsters in the positive direction… if they’re not the best team in the NFL they will be.

I’m more concerned with health and if they’re experienced enough to win in the playoffs.

Not for nothing…. the 2022 Vikings defense ranked 27th worst in points allowed.

The ones who were wrong that season were the ones who ignored context clues. We didn’t need DVOA… we could have simply looked at points allowed.

Oddly i think our offense is better than our defense and has mostly picked up the slack especially early. I still feel that vs elite offensive teams like the Rams or Eagles or chiefs, this defense will struggle.
Would be nice to have an actual DC instead of a fill in.

Zac Kohrs has done good after being forced into action, but the Pats could use some improvement there.

Denver is weird.

Beat the Eagles and Texans on the road

Barely beat the Jets, Giants and Raiders

Bo doesn't pass the eye test for me. I feel like he will be a Dalton level QB going forward.

Really my point was Holy **** you can’t find a team that has played better than us through 10 weeks.

Thats why I framed it as I did, consider what they’ve done on the field this year, and leave out subjective biases like “who has more talent” etc.

My point was put all your preconceived ideas aside and judge what has happened on the field. When you do that there is no one certainly better.

No one is clearly better, but Seattle, Rams and Indy could make the same claim.
We are in the mix.
As far as on field goes, those 4 are the only choices imo, none more right right than the other.

And look at Seattle and the Rams schedule - it's not really all that much of a tougher road than we have

I agree.

Care to venture a guess the team associated with the attached diagram? They reside in N.E.!

I just took an in depth look at Seattle's roster. That team is insane. Darnold is the weakest link but good god he doesn't have to do much.
