NFL Trade Deadline Discourse

The new owners have a very small %. The Krafts have a supermajority. Nothing will change unless the Krafts change it.

More curious is why did the Krafts pull cash out? To help pay the Inheritance tax that is coming?
That could be it. Could be simple diversification. Might be preparing an exit strategy in case Jonathan decides to retire or something happens and there are no family heirs to pass the team on to.

True. Teams sometimes cut guys at the end of the season so they have a shot to catch on with a contender as well. I don’t think this is the last time the Pats will have an opportunity to add depth this year.
Novascotia… posted a link to a grey cup CCG video this past weekend. If their Bowl is this weekend, there might also be some CFL talent available as well in next two weeks.

The team is worse without Dugger and White when they did nothing to replace them. I don't see how that's even remotely debatable. And no, I don't count that safety practice squad signing as a real addition.
What did White do on the field this season to justify your high opinion of him? I don’t share it, btw, so give me solid evidence not just reputation based on past performance and unrealized potential.

Same question for Dugger, was he really performing all that much better than replacements?

Seriously, with all due respect your inability to see just reflects your limitations not reality. It’s your opinion that those moves made the team worse, it’s my opinion they didn’t. You’re probably right it’s not debatable as neither of us is likely to change our minds about it.

I’d be fine with grabbing a WR high in 2026. One guy I loved prior to this college season is Nyck Harbor from South Carolina. He’s 6’5” 230, and runs a 4.2+ forty. That being said, he’s had a disappointing season so far, despite being tied for the team lead in catches, and leads the team in receiving yards and receiving TDs. QB LaNorris Sellers had been getting a lot of hype prior to the season, but has been even more disappointing than Harbor.

Harbor would be a ridiculous weapon for Maye, deep threat, red zone matchup nightmare. But because of his so-so season, some not HIS fault, he will probably drop in the draft, unless he runs a sub 4.3 forty.

Harbor would be a good football player if he could play football.

I wouldn't touch him before the 6th round.

You know my opinion. Kid is big, strong, and the ball just sticks to his hands. He’s been amazing this year
Georgia fan here and I’d love that kid on the Pats. Lawson Luckie from GA is one I’d like too but not sure if he enters.

Why so optimistic?

They got rid of dead wood that didn't fit and wasn't producing. No loss.

I expect they would have added depth, but not at exorbitant cost, and the biggest sellers didn't want to play with us.
Part of the advantage of cutting dead wood is clearing space for new growth.

We have depth. A criticism that I’ve seen directed at our existing depth and used to justify calls for “adding depth” that our existing depth is unproven.

We needed to cut dead wood to give our existing depth players a chance to prove themselves.

Be interesting to see if anything changes with the new ownership group..

dafuq? The minority stakes are a nothing burger as far as team operations go. Dean Metropoulos purchased a 5% stake in the Pats and Sixth Street Partners acquired a 3% stake. That's a total of 8%, considerably less than it would take to exert any influence lol. Like some other owners, Krafty Bob took out some cash because the league said they could. At that he didn't sell the 10% the league has authorized.

So you’re saying they’ll be trading with themselves for their own first round pick that’s #1 overall?

Won’t that get complicated?
It's the Jete, so...

Calling White and Dugger "deadwood" is such an overstatement. Are they all pros? Hell no. Are they serviceable NFL players? Yes.

What part of the "O" in IMHO did you not understand?

I have no information or private evidence but my own common sense.

[edit: post1: "Land war in Asia"]
Ok that’s what I thought. I feel it’s important to know if opinions are based upon a conclusion of facts or just a guess

WHITE
From the day that the coaches were hired, the open question was whether White and Jennings would fit into the new Defense. As time went on, it became clear that they were competing for one backup position/role.

Vrabel brought back Tavai. He signed Murphy. Clearly, he didn't see a major role for White or Jennings.

Jennings still has a job. Vrabel chose not to move him, So, the choice was made.

Vrabel chose this group as for his EDGE rushers:
Landry, Chaisson, Tavai, Jennings, Murphy, Ponder

I would not be surprised for Vrabel to cut one of them and keep ONLY five EDGE rushers on the roster (actually four plus Tavai who plays inside or out).
================
DUGGER
What can I say? Vrabel chose to play Dugger 100% of the time for two weeks instead of Pettus and then chose to bring in Saunders to replace Dugger. I don't see how we are stronger at safety with Woodson, Hawkins, Sauders and Pettus.

This CANNOT be a matter of cap money. Dugger could have been cut after the season with about the same cap effect as trading him mid-season.

What do you think of that Chris Brazzell II kid from Tennessee?? He's Big and Fast!
I think he’d be a good pickup for the Pats. Definitely a good deep threat, seems to get good separation. Would love to see him gain weight. I think he’s 6’5” but weights 195 pounds soaking wet. Does seem to have excellent hands as well.

I’d say no, as long as he’s not in a toxic situation here. And I’m highly confident that he won’t be.

He’s on record about his feelings toward making New England his home and raising his family here iirc. He’s got a very cushy gig here as long as it doesn’t go sideways.
But BB and McDaniels are BFF unless something has changed. Furthermore, some of those top picks would be tempting to fill on offense.

You’re living your best life, killing it in your dream job, home life is equally good. Would you throw that all away to move to a wilderness and jump in a cesspool because your best friend just signed up to clean it out?
I don’t think Josh would fall for that trap. He’s too smart. And he knows BB has lost his fastball and won’t be able to change anything in the Big Apple.

What if the Jets offered BB HC/GM?

He would destroy his NE legacy,, but have a shot at the Krafts.
He can't even coach UNC. What's he going to do with the Jets?

He's going to piss away their draft picks. He's not known as BB the great drafter so I'm not even scared of that.

Bill will get exposed if he returns to the NFL. We all acknowledge that he's a great defensive mind but where is his Josh Mcdaniels and Tom Brady on the offensive side? He won't have them with the Jets.

Josh is coaching for us now. Maye plays for us now. It wouldn't be revenge for BB if he came back for the Jets. He would just end up embarrassing himself. He needs to stay retired at this point. The only place where he might have a chance to succeed is with a ready made team that is already stocked with good veteran talent. The Jets are not that team, they are NFL purgatory.

I disagree. BB would take those 5 first round picks and cash then in for 3,000 7th rounders. That is hardly pissing them away.

I believe it's just a matter of the Patriots lacking talent at safety. So Vrabel tried to make Dugger work, but he just wasn't cutting it. It's best to admit the player doesn't fit and move on. That's exactly what Vrabel did.

The Patriots should have never given Dugger the big extension in the first place. It speaks volumes when a team believes signing someone off another team's practice squad is an upgrade over a player they traded away for peanuts.

Me? Na, lol I am a bold plump lady preserved in the flavor of chocolate.
Now you’ve got me thinking I might start responding to all your posts with “oh, fudge” just to see if I can trigger your self preservation reaction…
