Vrabel stressed this in both his presser and in the post-game locker room:

Winning in the NFL is hard. You work hard, you try to correct mistakes, win or lose. You should take accountability for errors.

But joy is important, too, it's why most players and coaches got into the fame to begin with. Building a culture of shared joy is a really key concept, and one which will help to sustain success in a league where the media and fans focus on the negative much of the time.

I am all for this, but he should thread lightly. You need the right players who can hold themselves accountable for it to work.

GDT here never focuses on the negatives.

I heard it and thought it was a great little post-game speech. Vrable really seemed genuine in giving it.

I was not looking forward going into OT vs Atlanta.

I see why the Falcons beat the Bills.

I think it is an important concept. There are not many people talking about "joy" in football. It is clearly something Vrabel believes in.

Of course, there has to be balance. Vrabel still has to be a hardass at times, you still need to have discipline and a strong work ethic.

But wins should be fun, and reasons for joy.

I think this is a message more pertinent for younger generations. Joy isn't something that is in abundance for these kids lately. Always a sense of waiting for the other shoe to drop. I think it's important to remind people that celebration is ok. It's also very clear that Vrabel is an intense hard-ass. He probably treads the line very effectively.

Isn't that just before the boat sinks?
What ya'll just watched yesterday was the first DC to figure out Drake Maye.

While not every NE opponent has Atlanta's defensive personnel, they will be picking this game film apart and trying to copy it. This moment was always coming and now we see if Maye can rise above it.

Any defense can make life hard for opposing QBs if they get in the QBs face, disturb his rhythm, and blankets the receivers. Not so easy to do. We'll see whether other teams can replicate what Atlanta did, and if Maye can elevate his game.

Yep, a brief reminder that Atlanta came into the game with the league’s top-ranked pass defense, and gave up 100 yards over their average to that Patriots performance we’re all so down on.

Well Maye didn't get any help with our Guards being raped: and Boutte getting hurt no pun.

Dont feel like we got defended that well. Drake was moving the ball and scoring points, then he fumbled badly. Then he threw a pick. Thats when the game changed. You can rightly give Atl's defense the credit but those were on Maye not the way he was being defended.

I think we only see part of what is going on. I agree that when they win they should take a minute and celebrate. Monday morning they will review film and go over the mistakes and what they need to work on. You want to turn the team against you quickly just come in the locker after a tough win and start harping on all the negative. Its a recipe for disaster, how he is talking to the team week in and week out about themselves, their identity and the outside world is strengthen their conviction. His coaching experience is currently on full display, night and day difference from last year.

Reminds me of some comments former player, podcaster and now game-day announcer Ross Tucker made. He was a journeyman OL and had a cup of coffee here under Bill in 2005. He said of the various teams he played for, NE leaned the most heavily into the negative reinforcement. The film reviews during the day-long team meetings were almost all about what you did wrong, and not much about what you did right. It amounted to public shaming. Seemed to work back then. Today, probably not so much.

BB was not an "embrace the joy" kind of guy.

False, as someone posted the video earlier that literally opens with Bill saying:

"There's nothing wrong, in fact, you SHOULD be excited to make a play. Hell, look at all the work you put into it. All the time you spent, in practice..... You SHOULD be excited about it. Your teammates should be excited."

*Points out how nobody celebrated with Ty after a solid play*

"We aren't good enough to play that way. I don't think anyone is."
