Patriots Player Departure Keion White traded

White was a disappointment, and barely playing - I get it.
And I understand that lowers his trade value.
But much of that was due to not fitting into a new defensive scheme.

Considering SF's situation, it feels as though the Pats should have got more in return, than simply moving up from about #240 to #200. The 49ers were desperate for a pass rusher after Nick Bosa tore his ACL. I read somewhere that SF's current starting DEs have hit opposing QBs just twice each in eight games. Not sacks, just QB hits.

At the very minimum there should have been an escalation clause based on playing time.

When negotiating, one must consider how much the other side wans/needs what you have.

It doesn't feel as if our front office was taking that into consideration, and instead only looking at it from the Pats perspective of 'let's get something, anything for this guy'. White being under contract through 2026 should have been an additional selling feature for the Pats.

That's my biggest concern with White. He doesn't seem Coachella. He hasn't developed his game, he's regressed since 2023.

The physical ability is still there. The mental makeup? Not so much.
Three coaching staffs that couldn't get much out of White. So many of his issues are things that hypnotically could be coached out of him. Still late recognizing plays, still can't navigate against down blocks, still doesn't maintain gap integrity, and I get the feeling he might still be a bit of a pain in the ass.

There is. The 7th rounder we gave SF comes back to us if he is active for 7 games lol. That is how little he is thought of.

"By trading White for such a paltry return, the Patriots signaled that their priority was moving on from the third-year pro, instead of playing hardball to try to maximize his return."

I know White wasn't playing anymore, but it really stinks they couldn't get him to be as useful as his measurables.

The worst part is that 49ers will probably turn him into a pro-bowl DE.

It's highly doubtful. Chase Young sucked ass with the 49ers when he was traded there. White only had one power rush move and would go Albert Haynesworth on the play when it didn't work in his favor. He had Barmore his rookie season and was still invisible with BB as his coach. Posters defended him saying he had no help in 2024. He had a new coaching staff like this guy wanted only to get beaten out by other players. The only defense you could give him was that he's not a stand up edge as BB/Mayo forced him to be. He's too damn slow for that. He will be a hand in the dirt DE in SF which should help.

They clearly were done with White, but I'm skeptical of any suggestion that a trading team could have gotten more for a player if only they'd bothered. The return was disappointing, but the market is the market.

I'm just looking at this from the 49ers perspective, a playoff contender with a major obvious need.

I do recall the Patriots once being able to get a 4th round draft pick from Denver for Laurence Maroney, even though Maroney had sunk to the bottom of the Pats RB depth chart and was in danger of being cut - only because the Broncos were desperate for a RB due to multiple injuries.

Conversely the Pats had to overpay for Mohamed Sanu, because all the other teams knew they were in dire need for a WR. Same thing happened when the Patriots traded for Derek Burgess.

But perhaps SF was the one and only team that showed any interest at all in White, which would explain the meager return.

This is just how bad Keion White was this year though.

There wasn't anything else to get. When Keion White did get on the field, he was Ron Brace-level terrible.

Maybe SF will have a role that fits Whites game.

Wouldn't be the first time that a change in scenery benefited the player. Pittsburgh cut Vrabel. The Jets cut Danny Woodhead. The Pat's got rid of Plunkett.
What is White's game?

Yep.
Patsfans.com 10/27: "White is a waste of space! They have to dump him!"
Patsfans.com 10/28: "I can't believe they couldn't get a better return for a player as valuable as White!"
It's one or the other.

You are that monkey and head of the clown show on this forum, and no you could not have done better. Sit down, shut up, and know your role. You are a freaking joke.

Whatever you say, Jahlani.

So Phil Perry is doing the click bait thing too these days?

Et tu, Phil?

That's what happens when you hang around Tom Curran for too long.

Fans always say we lost the trade. Garappollo could have been traded for a 1st round pick, etc. It goes on and on for years. You are right, the market is the market and I am sure the Pats check in with lots of teams.
