In terms of names, I don't really have anything to add. Marcus Jones should be re-signed this offseason unless maaaaaaaaaybe there's a replacement they really, really like at better value. Chaisson, Tonga looks like keepers too and should be affordable for us at this point. Not sure it makes sense for any of them to extend now though without getting to free agency first, even if just the tampering period.

Gonzo and Boutte should be extended when they can be if they're open to it.

Hooper is the only guy I'll disagree with. Don't see a need to extend him, but he's always a good option to keep in mind. Would love to get younger there in the TE2 spot in anticipation of Henry declining as he ages.

They can't extend the 2023 draftees until after Week 18.
I thought it applied only to first rounders. Boutte will be entering final season next year. And has 4 year contract only

Diggs is 21 per, 31 years old coming on an ACL.

Boutte is 23, averaging 18.7 yards a catch. He's already produced more than Brandon Aiyuk ever did, and he's making 30 mil. Boutte's age, production and improvement (he'd be a FA at 24 ffs), will get him huge money on the open market. Christian Kirk and Jerry Jeudy are making 18 mil/yr.

3rd year players can be extended during the season.
As clutch as Booty is he could see a bunch a pretty pennies on the open market. I would not have any heartburn about this team giving him 20-22 per year and that I think is still a bargain.

Judy is around 16 million and Meyers is around 11 million . Shakir is 14 million. So 13 million for Boutte seems fair.

No way will he hit 20 million. Better to lock him up now before his stats skyrocket . 13-15 million is ideal .
Why don't you think he is a 20 mil per guy? I am curious because I disagree, but a, interested on your take

Edit: after thinking about it more. I can see why he is could be viewed as less than 20 mil per. I do think though that if he starts getting more targets that could change, but that is not McDs offense nor is it Drakes MO, it seems

Cutting/trading Onwenu, Duggar, Jennings and Tavai gives us about $90M on cap space for 2026.

Players whose contracts expire after 2025:

- Marcus Jones. 3 yrs/$40M given injury hx, $8M 2026 cap hit.
- La'Kaivon Chaisson. 3/$54 seems a bit rich given we got him off the bargain heap. I say 3/$36M, $7M 2026 cap hit.
- Khyris Tonga. 2/$10M about right. $4.5M cap hit.
- Austin Hooper. 1 year/$5M solid, would consider 2/$9 with $6M guaranteed. 2026 cap hit $4-5M

Possibly Jack Gibbens as well, should not cost much.

That makes around $24.5M, leaving $66M.

Players under contract through 2026 who need tp be dxtended:

- Christian Gonzalez. 3/$90M or 4/$120M. Similar to Darryl Stingly. Gonzalez' injury hx will hopefully keep it from being worse.
- Kayshon Boutte. 4/$52/$33 seems about right.
Marcus Jones is a damn old school football player. Every time I see a come run in and make a good open field tackle it’s Marcus. He does everything and at his size many corners pretend to be Deion.

I think $95 guaranteed for Gonzo is very realistic

Interesting the Stacey James department is framing that as a 'long-term' extension.
So maybe the third-year numbers aren't just nonsense.

Boutte was a developmental player in 2023, had 43 catches for 589 yards 3 TDs in 2024 (granted coaching/scheme likely depressed those number some) and currently has 23 catches and 431 yards 5 TDs in 2025. He's on pace for a very nice season, no doubt, but I wouldn't pay a guy $20 mil or more a year who hasn't had multiple 75-100 catch/ 800 - 1,000 yard seasons. I know the WR market is crazy high, but I think we need to be cognizant of the Maye effect. I love me some Boutte, but he's not irreplaceable.

For comparison:

Tee Higgins got 4 years $115 mil guaranteed ($28.75 mil per) but has had 2 900yrd seasons and 2 1,000 yrd seasons under his belt (some years production down due to injury). He's a 1A not a number 2 on a team without Jamar Chase.

I wouldn't expect anyone who isn't a 2026 free agent to be extended during the season.

Boutte will get 13-15 million and probably more guarantee here.

With the way rookie wr and sophomore wr are performing no point paying huge money to a wr unless they are a true alpha .

And if we don't pay other teams would also be wary of overpaying .

So I am thinking 4/ 58 / 32 gtd should do it for boutte

Marcus Jones extended, reportedly 3 years with $36M new money with potential for $40.5M, waiting on details, but pretty close to my projection.

Great move

Now that we are halfway into the season , which extensions do we sign on now before the prices become insane.

To me it would be these folks

Boutte ( 4/ 52/ 33)
Gonzo ( 4/140/ 95)
Marcus Jones( 3/ 42/29)
Tonga
Chaisson ( 3/ 54/ 26 ?)

Might need to cut dugger and onwenu to make this happen.

Again these numbers are my take and I am not sure if these numbers are valid , too high or low.
If Caedan Wallace is the answer at RG (or another player obtained in FA or the Draft), and Onwenu's cap hit decreases if released next year, then I can see him being traded or cut.

After the Marcus Jones deal, Tonga is my new priority and sneakily Austin Hooper. Nest year's TE draft class doesn't look to be to strong and both our TEs have been way better than functional. For the sake of consistency, let's keep it that way. He shouldn't be any more expensive than his 1/5m contract either.

As for Chaisson, does anyone think he signs for less than Landry's 3/43 ? Personally I don't see it. Would you still pay that?

I projected him at 3/$36, similar to Marcus Jones. Maybe incentives up to 3/$42.

Chaisson signed a standard rookie deal with Jax totalling $13.4M, which he played out. Jacksonville did not exercise his FA option. As a FA in 2024 he signed a 1 year/$5M deal with Carolina, who cut him. The Raiders signed him to their OS and the to the regular roster. He made $1.125M in 2024. The Pats signed him to a 1 year deal worth $3M with incentives to $5M, which he will almost certainly make.

Chaisson is only 26, and has made almost $20M in 6 years. He's had 10 sacks in 5 seasons to date, and us on pace for another 10 this year.

I don't see Chaisson being quite at the Landry level in terms of a contract. Landry is only 29, and had 31.5 sacks in his 3 previous seasons.

If Chaisson signs a 3 year deal he will be only 29 when he is in a contract year, and could get another payday.

I suspect incentives will be a big part of his deal. Let him equal Landry if he performs as well.

Agree on both Tonga and Hooper.

For Boutte I am okay letting him walk if the price tag is too high. He's good, but he is also such a product of Drake Maye. He is kind of like Branch, who was great here with Brady. Got paid the bigs bucks in Seattle and was not nearly worth it. I see Boutte as a similar case. He is more valuable here in sync with Drake than anywhere else. So If he demands the open market and the max he can get which will be 15m/yr (someone will pay it probably). I unfortunately let him walk and take the comp pick which will be a 3rd rd pick most likely at that price.

Now, I do not want this to happen. I want Boutte to be here for his entire career. But he needs to be reasonable. He is not a mid/high #2 WR. He is a mid/low #2 WR that Drake is elevating cause their games compliment each other.

So if he stays he needs to make a deal in that wheel house I think. This sounds like he needs to take money off the table to stay, but I don't see it like that. Branch got paid then lost all value and could be gotten for peanuts on his final deal.

Boutte may take less this contract if he stays, but he will retain his value next contract when his production doesn't drop. Even if he pulls a full Branch and comes back after getting paid, the offense will have moved on with Drake favoring new guys he is in sync with and Boutte will not get that #2 spot back.

So I think there is something to be said for him taking what he can get here, staying with something he knows works for him for the next 9 years and not rocking the boat on a gamble he can do it somewhere else.
