Aside from possible trades, the most likely transaction to get Jennings on the 53 would be to cut Caleb Murphy to open a spot.

It’s likely the Pats were the only team that put in a claim for him last week, so they would sign him to the Practice Squad after he clears waivers just like Jeremiah Pharms earlier this season.

Yes, we can choose to keep White, Jennings and Ponder instead of Murphy.

Silly me!

I thought that we signed Murphy as an upgrade to one of the three.

We will be lucky to get a 6th or 7th.

I don't think that we will get a player in trade.
Stranger things have happened. But to your point it's more common in the NFL to trade player's for draft capital. We are in postseason positioning from here on out. I don't believe the expectations have changed for the team. Getting in the postseason is the goal. We should be trying to add a player that could be here for now and the future preferably on defense.

I don’t think White really has any trade value at this point. His value of the potential he has if we fix him is greater than his trade value. Really wish I knew what’s up with him. He has a proven skill set. I know last year he was extremely critical of coaching and said he just coached himself, but maybe that was an attitude issue in addition to having a poor coaching staff
Same here he had what 6.5 sacks last season? I don't even think he has a TFL or half sack registered this season. He's a guy that showed flashes of potential but for some reason can't seem to replicate it on the field. I agree that attitude could have alot to do with it.. last season

Well the question is if his attitude was due to Mayo or if it’s just who he is.
Rejecting coaching seems smart when it’s Mayo and staff and dumb now but that may just be who he is.

Good points 6, he is a physical specimen and a prototype NFL player. It's gotta be his attitude, his demeanor.. watching the defensive coaches interview last week talking about him.. seems as if even they can't even say with certainty he will turn it around. They used potential and have to lock in on a position to describe him...

There is one team that could not have put in a waiver claim for him, and they are the team most likely to claim him if the
Pats do as you suggest.

Reportedly the Chargers were doing what you suggest the Patriots do, and the Pats interrupted their plans.

It seems very possible, perhaps likely, that they would happily return the favor. They already had him on their 53 man roster so evidently believe he’s worthy of a roster spot.

Dugger to Steelers, White to Niners

so tell me, is my interpretation of the rules surrounding call ups incorrect?

Yes. Yes, with all due respect I think it is.

It’s really hard to find the primary sources online, and then it’s hard to parse the legalese. Of course the biggest problem is that what really determines whether you or I are correct is what the parties to the CBA think, if they agree, or what the arbitrator says if they disagree.

The only copy of the CBA I could find was on the NFLPA site, from 2020, and I found that it expires 2030. I could find no more recent copy.

What you found on the NFL site indicates that the practice square terms were amended in 2022, superseding what I had found. Good find.

With that information I was able to track down a 2022 tweet by Ian Rapoport that contains a copy of the amended terms. See below.

I’ll post my interpretation in a little while. Just got out of a meeting and need to get supper but wanted to get this posted now.

there have been a lot of changes, and you are correct, its hard to keep up...

I will see if I can find an instance or two where this happened... it will take a lot of digging though, bottom of the roster transactions can be a slog to parse... work is been a bit busy, give me a few days to see what I can find...
