Patriots Player Departure Titans Sign Truman Jones off Patriots PS

Bastards.

They just traded a DB away.

I personally think one of the reasons Vrabel elevated Jones over Bradyn Swinson is that he wants to keep Swinson under the radar to decrease the risk of poaching. Just a guess.

Prolly an eff u from Titans petty Karen owner

Wonder what the Pats are going to do this week since they need to bring Jennings up to the Pro Roster going forward. Wonder if Eric Gregory gets waived put on the PS.

Haven't we had an open 53 man roster spot like all year? I think Swinson is on the practice squad and not getting called up because he's not good enough, plain and simple.

No. The Patriots filled it when they added Tavai. Then, they filled the one for Gibson with Caleb Murphy, who they claimed off waivers from San Diego.

You could be right, we don't know. There have been reports about him improving.

My guess - nothing more - is that Swinson showed promise but needed time to develop. He showed a lot at LSU last year, I'm just not convinced that he's "not good enough, plain and simple", at least not yet.

I didn't know you could just sign a guy already on another team's PS... I would assumed if a team signed you to the PS it would be a contract where you just can't sign with someone else until you are cut or until the contract runs out.

I never looked into it, but i assumed these were year long contracts with a weekly re-up option by the team and the player wouldn't have the freedom to just break it, but could walk at the end of the year by not signing another contract. I never really looked into. But I assumed being signed to a practice squad meant just couldn't be poached like that.

It is annoying there is no compensation mechanism or something for it. It seems odd practice squads are all just free agents by another name

It’s part of the CBA. Players on ps are paid peanuts to be cannon fodder so they get the chance to improve their lot if another team wants to pick them up.

It's not a forever characterization to say he's not good enough. You saying he "showed promise but needed time to develop" is sugar coating that he's just not good enough to play or be on the roster RIGHT NOW. Reportedly they're in hot pursuit of edge rushers. They recognize it's a need - Vrabel has talked about it too. I just don't buy any theory that they aren't calling him up to "hide" him. If he could play and contribute they'd call him up considering the need at the spot. They aren't calling him up because he's not good enough to contribute right now.

Perhaps we will cut one of the 11 LB's and EDGE rushers.

I would note that the Titans "signed" Jones. We wouldn't pay him. They will. It is really that simple. Jones didn't have to take the offer.

We have no special rights to our Practice Squad players. The only consideration is that if a player is signed, he must be paid the minimum compensation for 3 games.

It's that and he has a real chance to start, I don't blame the kid in the slightest.

Of course not!

I don't blame him of he simply wants to be paid.

I think that we overstate the value of the Practice Squad. This year's PS has given us ONE player for the 53: DURDEN as an upgrade to Pharms.

SOME USES
1) The primary use of the Practice Squad is to provide emergency backups to be elevated on Game Day when folks are injured.
2) a scout team to practice against
3) a place to try out players who might be useful on the 53-man roster. DURDEN was on the Practice Squad for a week before he replaced Pharms. I don't know of any others.
4) a place to find players for the end of the roster. These could come from any team's Practice Squad. This happens when there are many injuries or near the end of the year when you are trying to find players for the next year.
=================
BOTTOM LINE
These are players no one wants. There are over 500 players on team Practice Squads. How many were claimed last week?

TO BE CLEAR
After Game 1, only 2 players have been added to the 53 (not counting Game Day elevations).: TAVAI was activated from IR and MURPHY was recently claimed. So, we added two, and lost two since Game One (Polk and Gibson)

thems the breaks... hate to see him go, can't blame him for taking the deal to get on the field...
