Does Drake Maye have the best throwing arm in the NFL?

Maye still occasionally sails one. And i do wonder about that. Is he leaning too much on his arm and his mechanics aren't exactly perfect, but he makes up for it with power and touch? I'm curious. Right now though it's hard to say whose better than him. He can make all the throws, has top tier touch, and his speed isn't bad. The only throw i haven't seen him do at an incredibly level is an absolute dart into closing coverage. Maybe cause he doesn't think his WRs can catch it or maybe it isn't in the arsenal? But he can get it in there fast for sure. His arching over the top throw is a thing of beauty though.
Not disagreeing with anything you said here. But we hear time and time again by former players now youtube/podcast guys saying his mechanics (release) and particularly his foot work needs work. That he makes the throws harder on himself than need be because of improper mechanics. My statement to this is are you watching this kid. Jumping left or right and throwing the ball in the air, he makes it look effortless like he is playing in a backyard. I would say yes if he wasnt making good throws then we need to figure out why that is but when he leads the league at over expected completions by 10% and was over 20% in the last game I tell these people to STFU. If it aint broke dont fix it. Its like when Ali starting to get popular in boxing. He had what was considered poor fundamentals for his guard and where the punches were coming from. A lot thought early on he would be easy to knock out. His style worked for him and he became one of the best to ever step in the square circle. If I were Vrabel and Josh I would tell young Drake keep doing what your doing we aint changing ****.

He “sails one” less often than anyone else.

What are you talking about that you haven’t seen him throw a dart, which games are you watching? One of his clearest arm talents is zipping the 12-20 yard in cut. He has converted many 3rd and longs that way.

Anyone here remember young Brady winning the offseason distance QB challenge with a 75yd accurate throw?
Yes, throwing without rush pressure is different

he is an elite passer for sure - there's a few others with more arm strength, but he can layer all of the throws.....he has excellent touch, he hits vertical & horitizontal windows well

Maye is Tall with a Strong Arm and he's Tall (tm)

Baldy thought Dobbs was Maye at the end lol
Saw that too lend him those please.

I am guilty of this as well, when we see someone that does things differently (unorthodox) we tend to think they are doing it incorrectly. I think that Mayes footwork is atrocious at times, because I was taught a different way (hips and shoulders point to the target and your base needs to be shoulder-ish width), very Tom Brady like.

We have seen others with unorthodox mechanics and have seen them not do well, so it reinforces that they did it wrong and that is why they failed. Maye has improved his traditional footwork and base but he is also able sustain the unorthodox mechanics, so he can pull that out when needed because he has arm talent that is already top 5 in the NFL (velocity, placement, arm angles, touch).

Maye was my #1 QB in the draft because of his arm, but my thinking was that they can coach his mechanics. Now I realize that "fixing the mechanics" was way overblown by me. Combine his physical ability, processing and coachability we have a top 5 QB for the next 10 years.

Also he throws a very impressive back shoulder

This is Bills worst nightmare - a more accurate and poised QB. If the Pats sweep the Bills this season, the tide will turn back to NE like it did in 1996. Bills Mafia is going to be pissed!

Any good to great QB can throw a ball 55-60 yards. The zip and placement on the pass is what matters most. I don't even know what Maye's longest pass in the league is.

If it's at their own 15-20 with 3 seconds left, could he get it to the opposing end zone? Idk.

His pass in SB 42 traveled what. 70 yards at minimum? He always had great arm strength. Not Rodgers or Elway arm, but the next tier.

Prime Russell Wilson??
Wilson had an uncanny ability to throw the deep ball. The Packers game in 2012 seemed like a fluke, but did this routinely.

Watch Maye's deep ball passes its really looks like he is just tossing a 10 yard pass. You dont see the heave ho that some quarterback do when they are going deep. I bet he could probably toss a ball over that mountain.

It’s almost unanimous that people are calling him the best deep thrower in the league now.
He is on track to set an all time NFL completion percentage record. There isn’t a throw he can’t make. We see rocket throws on in cuts, back shoulders and touch throws.
Does Maye have the best arm in the NFL?

PS I am also a fan of THE Ohio State University and Julian Sayin is completing 80% of his passes, also higher than the All time record. I get to see incredible QB play from my teams on both Saturday and Sunday.

Something is wrong with the game itself when QBs completing 70-80 percent of their throws becomes commonplace. Things have gotten WAY unbalanced in favor of offense, IMO. That being said, Maye's accuracy -- especially long -- is eye-popping. He very well might have the best arm at this point. But I think he needs to maintain it several more games for that tag to gain serious traction.
