Drake Maye has arrived . . .

A lot of guys win a playoff game. I mean, Jared Goff got the Rams to the Super Bowl, but I am not convinced he is "nails" as a playoff QB.
ROFL

You do realize that Goff is in the top in the betting odds for MVP?

?? Uh.... did you read my post on this?

I said some of the MVP candidates are not good under playoff pressure.

We've seen Goff crumble under pressure 3x in the playoffs.

So, you're just repeating what I started with?

Watching a YT short talk about how Maye is the first QB in NFL history to have 4000 pass yards, 500 rush yards, with a 69% completion percentage in his 1st 20 games.

Off to a good start.
Nice.

Per sports reference, Maye now leads the league in QB rating at 116.4.

Correct, and completion percentage.

Thats among qbs with 6+ starts as Lamar does have a 130 rating but only played 3.5 games.

An interesting article. Here's the part that stood out to me:

The first is play action, where there has been a notable shift from offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels. The initial plan was not to lean too heavily on that play. While it can be useful in getting linebackers to bite down near the line of scrimmage and thus be a benefit to quarterbacks, one drawback is that the quarterback must turn his eyes away from the defense after taking the snap. That can be especially difficult for young quarterbacks and put them behind as they try to catch up once their eyes snap back downfield.

That’s part of why the Patriots ranked 18th in play-action usage the first two weeks, per TruMedia. But as it became clear that Maye could process the game more quickly, McDaniels has leaned more into the play. The Patriots rank fourth in play-action usage since Week 2.

I was somewhat nervous when the Pats hired Josh McDaniels that he would try to mold Drake Maye into Tom Brady, but I've been impressed with how the team is developing Maye and adjusting to his strengths.

I was also somewhat nervous around game 3 that Maye's processing ability might limit his ceiling.

0 for 2. Perfect.

They need to work with him on throwing it away and not taking hits. Every time he runs...there is a risk.
His ability to run is a part of his game.....its not going to be like Lamar but its not going to stop.

We have a tracker, not a trailer QB.

In the week 1 GDT several people kept saying that Maye does not have "IT" and is too erratic to ever be clutch. The take away is stay for away from the GDT filled with questionable takes.

He has not had the number of 4th quarter comebacks that most people cite as demonstrating the Clutch gene, but he has been so good on 3rd and 4th downs that I have no doubt if he needs to move them down the field and put them in FG range (like he did against Buffalo). No doubt he could do that on a regular basis if needed, he will have **** ups but I bet he is successful more than not.

It's risky though. I feel like running QB's get injured more.
They don't, they get injured about the same.

It impacts the length of their careers if they're unable to transition in their 30s when their legs go. Rodgers was able to transition, for example, he would be considered a 'running QB' earlier in his career.

JT O'Sullivan throws some shade on Drake Maye's Titans performance in his new QB School vlog.

Says Drake has some open receivers but chooses to run after the first read in some situations. Seems valid.
