So I don't want to tap the breaks on Maye a bit. His stats look amazing a d they are, but how much offensive production are they leading to? For instance Maye had a great day today but it only lead to 24 offensive points. You'd think with that stat line we'd be putting up 30 a game every time, but we aren't.
To me this is a bit of a minor concern. Perhaps part of it is the approach. If he passed 35 times a game they'd s ore more.
The Patriots lack talented play makers. It's obvious. Compare the Patriots to other teams:
Colts
Johnathan Taylor >>>>> Rham
Warren > Henry
WR is pretty even
Detroit
St Brown > Diggs
Williams > Boutte
better RBs than NE by a decent margin
Dallas
Much, much better WRs than NE.
More production from the TE
much more productive RB
Bucs
Irving > Rham
Bucs WRs are much, much better than the patriots. Theres no comparison.
Seattle
Better running game
Smith Ngjiba is far better than any Patriot WR
KC
They don't have the greatest set of weapons but they still have a top 5 of all time TE and the WRs on each team are about even.
Those are the teams scoring more than the Patriots. I know it's blasphemy to talk about around here but skill position players do help the offense. The Patriots success has been due to the stellar play of Drake Maye and the soft schedule. Diggs, Henry and Boutte deserve credit, they are playing well, but it is probably a middle of the pack set of skill players.
I listed the teams better than the Pats in ppg. Teams who are scoring less also have better weapons - Teams like the Rams (Puka, K Williams, Adams), eagles (Brown, Barkley, Smith), Vikings (Jefferson, Addison), Bengals (Chase, Higgins), Falcons (London, Bijan). You could make a case for others as well like Denver and the Chargers.
