How long does it take for a QB and his offense to get into synch?

a year
a full offseason and half the season

If your QB is Flacco, the answer is less than 10 days.

The day after trading for him, they gave him a list of 30 plays before practice. He executed them all without error.

I imagine it's slightly different for a guy in his 18th year who's played with 7 different teams. . . .

The Steelers were supposed to have a good defense.

Tomlin is a defensive Guru to hear some folks talk.

They got absolutely lit up by an offensive line that can't block.
And Jalen Ramsey needs to be investigated for Grand Theft. I said when he was still with a Rams he lost a step, but he's Sauce Gardnering it out there.

I think people are going to over rate the performance of Flacco last night. It seems like every year he will come in and replace a QB and have one or two elite games before fading quickly. Last year when he went in, he had a 359 yard and 3 TD game vs the Jags and then ended up having 9 TDs and 7 INTs in next five games he played last year. In 2023 and 2022, he had similar results with elite games early in his taking over as starter only to get very average quickly.

Meanwhile on the other sideline...

Josh Dobbs a few seasons ago had a few weeks of this as well remember?

You give any competent NFL caliber QB two stud WRs and time to throw the ball, the QB will cut you to pieces.

I would say anywhere from a week or so (look what Flacco just did) to forever, usually closer to forever.

The Bengals aren't fully in synch. They just have a veteran guy who knows how to get the basic plays right and were able to slap together based on that and the fact that they have 2 elite wideouts.

That and the Steelers were their usual arrogant selves and played down to the competition like they always do.

The CIN Offense is part of a terrible team. HOWEVER, an over-the-hill QB can walk in and work for a DAY and run the Offense well and then win after 8 days.

Posters have said that every unit needs to play well for an Offense to work, and they need time working together. You can't do it without a good OL, 4 receivers, and a solid running game, in ADDITION to a solid QB.

The reality is that an old professional and top receivers do NOT take any time to gel and take over a game and an Offense.

We WILL bring in a second top WR next year and many of think is the plan. Diggs will eventually get to 100%. Before the BUF game, he said he was at 60%.

We'll have the other normal re-signings and additions, but this team is ready to beat anyone. (Obviously, we will focus on the safety positions since we have Woodson and nobody for 2026, unless Hawkins and Dugger are re-signed. But this is normal and happens every year).

How long?

Drake Maye just turned 23, the better question is how long does it takes a second year QB to develop. How long does it take for a front office to put a legitimate team around him. How long does it take a coaching staff to get them executing at a high level.

NFL rosters change every season, sometimes a little, sometimes a lot… how long does it take for a team to get good in all three phases. It takes a team.

It’s a team sport, nobody does it alone…. not Tom Brady, not anyone.

He sure was impressive.

Its a simple game for a Vet who has seen it all and then some.

Cincinnati has always had great WRs too. Real smart play by Higgins to hit the turf and not enter the endzone for a TD and give Rodgers 1:30 to drive down and win.

Let me reiterate: The offense was nowhere near complete when Flacco took the field on Thursday. The fact that they won does not mean that they have finished the task of integrating their offense. They just managed to avoid major mistakes and execute a few key plays based on the raw talent of Ja'Marr and Tee and the high end talent was enough to balance out their limited scheming potential.

Their OC did yeoman's work. They managed to throw together a game plan rooted heaviily in the kind of basic football that a veteran like Flacco can run in his sleep, and they had the kind of explosive receivers that can make a quarterback's life easy even when running very basic offensive schemes that everyone knows how to perform at this level.

Mistakes by Rodgers, and the Steelers D being the most overrated unit in football, did the rest.

Look at me. I'm still riding Bailey Zappe's 2rd start (71%, 309yds, 2TD) spreading the ball around and throwing 75% overall for his 1st winning 2 starts. Sam Horn (Boston version) effect.
