Me checking the scoreboard this morning.

What a great gift as a Pats fan to wake up to first thing in the morning
Gonna be a good day, poor old tripping Mike

Will you guys be pulling for us?
Not me. You're an NFC team that isn't playing the Ratbirds or Indiots and if Pitt wins the AFCN we won't have to worry about the tie-breaker against them.

Whoever wins the AFCN will be a joke.

Watching last night's game reminded me why I am glad the Patriots never went the Steelers' route. They are in an endless doom loop of being good enough to contend for the playoffs, but not good enough to win a playoff game. The Patriots have won a Super Bowl more recently than the Steelers won a playoff game.

I was never really all that upset that the Pats sucked for the last few years because I knew that in the NFL it is what it takes for a team to get their franchise QB to become a contender. It isn't a guarantee because a lot of teams like the Jets spend decades in their endless doom loop of sucking and drafting QBs high only to ruin them. But teams with good ownership like the Patriots tend to pull themselves out of those doom loops.

The Pats have gotten their next franchise QB only five years after Brady. Roethlisberger was toast before Brady left the Pats and the Steelers are nowhere close to finding a new young franchise QB. They will not be able to draft one next year unless they get lucky and one falls to them. Odds are good they will get a veteran QB as a short term solution in the offseason who will be good enough to help the Steelers to win 9-10 games and unable able to draft a franchise QB in 2027. And the doom loop continues.

Yeah. It's WAY easier to contend again with a top 5 QB. Since only 5 teams can have that most teams need to find another way.
The Eagles and 49ers were able to draft and manage the roster around a QB that's OK and win a Super Bowl/ barely lose one.

But in the long run it is way easier to pay 1 QB a ton of money than try to pay 5-6 guys.

The Eagles and 49ers are the exception. As you said, there are more than one way to be a contender. And I would argue, this direction only gives you a short window to be a true Super Bowl contender while having the elite QB gives you a much longer window.

Most of the real contenders have a top performing QB. In recent years, several teams have been lucky to take QBs who underperformed or failed elsewhere and turn them into top QBs (the Bucs with Mayfield or Detroit with Goff), but for the most part the elite QB wins the Super Bowl.

The Steelers draft well, So if they tanked it for a few years and lucked out and even drafted a top 10 QB, they have the potential to be a contender for years. But they way they are doing it now, it only guarantees them to have winning records and probably be waiting for their next playoff win for a number of years.

J Chase is an Excellent WR always show up in prime time. Really hope Burrow gets his injury issues under control.
