So The Pats Titans game this weekend is the third road game in a row for New England... As we have all seen, we have gone 2-0 in the first two games of our extended road trip... In the pregame thread @Mike the Brit posted an interesting stat... thought it was interesting enough to break it out of that thread...

The statistics found for me by a certain well-known LLM gives a 33.6% win rate for teams in their third consecutive road game versus 43% for road teams in general.

Interesting bit of Trivia, the first, and only time, the Patriots have won three road games in a row in the regular season came in 1961 ... The Pats did go 3-1 in 1985 in the post season (3 straight road victories before falling to the Bears in XX )

To provide an overview, the Pats have played Three (or more - one 4 game, one 5 game set) ) road games 21 times in their storied career...
Three game road trips overall record: 27-34-2
Overall Record in the last game: 6-13-1
Post season: 3-1

So... Is this a big deal or not?

edit: what the hell, it should have had a poll as well... Oh well, we will survive

edit 2: Regular Season, not including the post season ... as @1960Pats points out the 85 Pats won three in a row in the playoffs ... full credit to him for pointing this out...

Edit 3: we kicked the Titans ass 31-13, won out on the Three Game Road Trip!!!

Check back with me late Sunday afternoon and I'll let you know how big a deal it was, give you the definitive answer

I think the general concept that the third road game in a row is tough is obvious. It's tough to really apply a historical analysis like this because there are so many variables. Each of those different Patriots teams were differing levels and all of the opponents were differing levels.

I think third road game in a row is a big deal in and of itself, but that's more than mitigated for me this week by us being pretty solid and TEN being AWFUL. We should win and I won't accept the road game thing as a legit excuse if we don't.

We weren't supposed to win in Miami: neither in the Buffalo whiteout. Yeah the stars are aligned.

Probably a factor to cause that big a change in win %, as bad as Tennessee is its another good test for this team.

Last week it was avoiding a let down after the buffalo win. It wasn’t perfect but i think we passed with flying colors. Should have been a double digit win if not for the refs.

If we come in and thoroughly outplay the opponent again like we should its a great sign.

Wouldn't it be something if we go undefeated on the Road. Titan's - Banged up Bucs - Burrow-less Bengals - Mash unit Ravens - and Jets. I would take 4-1 from that: oh and I'm not looking ahead.

They play better away from Foxboro is all I know. That needs to change.

4-1, id take that in a heartbeat! The bucs game will be really tough, at least evans will be back for that one.

Yeah it's said Cleveland have Solid D: and Atlanta looks very balanced.

This a weird game for odd variables. We have the third in a row road game, the fired coach bump, and the returning head coach to the team that fired him thing.

I figure it all cancels each other out and the best team (us) will win.

yeah, definitely an odd set of circumstances surrounding this game

I think this being the Titans game will buck any three game road trip trend. I think the players will be up for winning this game for Vrabel and much of the rest of the staff who came from the Titans. If Landry is healthy enough to play, I expect him to be on fire to show the Titans they were stupid to cut him. This is not typical road game for the Patriots.

I think the biggest problem with three road games back to back to back is players get fatigued from the travel and living in hotels. That is why the third road game has such a low success rate. It wears on players over the weeks. Again, this is not a typical road game though.

Didn't this franchise win 21 in a row? That to me is a much bigger deal than 3 in a row on the road.

I’ll vote “it IS actually a big deal, but it helps that the three games were in descending order of opponent quality.”

I wouldn’t have wanted to head into Buffalo at the end of a long road stretch.
