NFL Trade Deadline Discourse

Good enough for what? To make the playoffs with a weak schedule? Sure. But in the big picture this team still needs a lot of talent upgrades if it’s going to compete for championships. At some point here in the next few years they’re going to need better edge rushers and better pass catchers.
The WRs we have are, collectively, better than the group of Patten, Brown, Charles Johnson, torrance Small, Bert Emanuel, and Curtis Jackson. The TEs in Henry and Hooper are better receives than Wiggins and Rutledge but not better blockers. Westover is not Marc Edwards. Neither RBs are equal to Antowain Smith, Kevin Faulk, Patrick Pass, and JR Redmond. But, Henderson has the potential to be a bigger play-maker.

An upgrade on the Edge over Jennings, Chaisson, or Keion White might be possible, but who of the names bandied around are solid setting the edge, but also rushing the Passer? The only one available who fits that is Jaelen Phillips. I don't see Miami giving him up.

Cam Jordan is 36. Arden Key is ok against the run, but hasn't generate much in the Pass rush. Kingsley Enagbare is really just a sub guy and no better than what we have. Thibodeaux misses too many tackles.

Dre'mont Jones from the Titans might be of interest. Boye Mafe could also be of interest. Both are set to be UFA next year.

Look around the league and you'll see multiple glaring weaknesses on every team. It's quite alarming how bad the NFL continues to get.

With that said, Pats need find a way to run the ball better as they are among the worst in the league. Need to take the heat off Maye.

Assuming that the Patriots remain a threat to actually win the division . . . does that change Vrabel et al.'s calculus for trades? If so, how much?

Personally, I think it makes trade(s) a bit more likely, but I still believe they should only give up picks in the first four rounds if they're getting a player who'll be under contract for at least 2026.

I think the FO owes it to the guys on the team to add some pieces at the deadline that would help give us an extra push going into the late stages of the season. If it means giving up a 3rd rd pick this year and or a pick next year, then so be it.

Now we have to make that Key Trade to keep us at the Top.

As much as it pains me, I have come to the realization that White is all bark and no bite, and him moving on might just be the best thing for everyone.
I do not want Ringoo however, he has been really bad.

Agree. It takes a while for me to give up on a player, but White hasn't shown anything.

Disagree. They should keep their Day 1&2 picks unless a great deal is available. They shouldn't be giving up high picks for older players or half season rentals. This is a team looking to get a Wildcard and possibly win a playoff game. They aren't Lombardi contenders, and they shouldn't make the mistakes that killed the Dolphins and have killed other teams that don't understand where they are at in their evolution.

I think they need to treat this year as they would any year in the Vrabel era in which they are playoff contenders. It's almost as critical as the FO's first time together in the offseason; you figured out what you want, everyone got on the same page, you went and got who you could, and here you are. Now they need to do it again. I think of the trade deadline as a mini version of FA and the draft. They need to put their minds together and figure out how to improve the team without hamstringing the future.

I'd be happy with an improvement at RB, LB, or some CB depth

Am the only one who wants D Henry if he's available?? Call it nostalgia: but I bet Vrabel is thinking about it this morning. The AFC absolutely stinks.

Probably have to wait until the deadline for that one. They’re not going to sell at 3-5 if they can beat the Bears and Dolphins. Even now, the betting markets have the 1-5 Ravens more likely to win the Super Bowl than the 4-2 Patriots.

Henry is showing Power Back Cliff signs to me the last 3 games.
I don't want another Steven Jackson situation.

Y'all probably have seen this one, but, from an article about AJ Brown we have:

New England Patriots

Potential compensation
: WR Kayshon Boutte, OLB K'Lavon Chaisson, 2026 third-round draft pick

Stefon Diggs has been rock solid as Drake Maye's new top target in New England, but Maye's emergence as a dynamic pocket passer could have the Patriots eager to further bolster the offensive weaponry (and hopefully overtake the Buffalo Bills in the AFC East). Coach Mike Vrabel, meanwhile, was a big fan of Brown during their time together with the Tennessee Titans. Boutte is just 23 and emerging as a big-play outlet, so he could give the Eagles some long-term pass-catching insurance alongside DeVonta Smith and Jahan Dotson. Chaisson is another LSU product, except with a first-round reputation, who's still just 26 and has flashed potential in rotation off t
he edge.

I'm trading neither of those two for AJ Brown, and even a 3rd round pick seems high for that contract coming back.

They can have Kyle Williams if we thought about such a move young Guy with upside.

We need a stop gap for the interim: think about A Smith and C Dillon. Just having the threat of the run with Maye back there is a plus. We can't roll with only Henderson and Fumble Rham right now. Need a player like Henry for January.

If Henry's running worse like he is now (if my theory is correct), you may as well sign some dude off his couch.

I am really glad you're not the GM.
Really so if we had a chance to get A.J. Brown and ask to throw in Kyle Williams you wouldn't?? I know about the Contract but getting a True #1 WR you would pass?? I'm glad you're not the GM Tommy.
