It's easy, and only takes a few moments. The lesson is be careful how you treat people on the way up because those are the same people you see on the way down.Man, there's an awful lot of piling on. From everywhere. Bill's past conduct toward the media is coming back to bit him in the ass.
I never liked Bill's treatment of the media and fans. I have a friend who was in the media room and he had a lot of negative things to say about Bill's treatment of and lack of respect for the media. According to him, whenever Bill would refer to the media he'd point back over his shoulder to the media room and say "those assholes." Bill made it much harder for them to do their jobs. He also made it less enjoyable for my fandom. The lesson is be careful how you treat people on the way up because those are the same people you see on the way down.
Belichick was a great coach in his day. He also had a tendency to treat the media like **** and we excused it as "they deserve it, they ask dumb questions" because Bill helped us win. He was someone who demanded loyalty from coaches and players and cast them out if he felt slighted or felt they were no longer useful. With players we just said he's being a pragmatic no nonsense coach. With coaches we usually disparaged the people he had beefs with even though they seem to get along with everyone else.
If he was an Andy Reid or Jimmy Johnson type, there'd be a lot more people coming out to soften what is happening and give him cover. But very few people actually want to do that for him so he's left on a high wire and he doesn't have the room to be flopping this bad.
I'll say again, he either should have given up everything but the x's and o's of coaching and let the team build a modern NFL personnel department so he didn't need to worry about it OR he should have rode off into the sunset with Brady. People would have forgiven a 1 or 2 down years to see them go out together.I never liked Bill's treatment of the media and fans. The predictions came out early declaring that Bill's schtick would work fine if he won but not so well if he lost. We reached that point quite some time ago here. Now his schtick isn't working at all in college, and his gal pal isn't helping.
It would have been great if things had turned out differently, but alas they haven't.

Why is it so hard to understand that Bill wanted to keep Brady. He didn't want to give him a 3 year extension before the 2019 season though.I mistakenly believed that Belichick pushed Brady out because he wanted to modernize their offense with a running quarterback, go after Shula's record, and leave the franchise in excellent shape. I could not have been more wrong about his goals or who he really was as a person.

Clueless. Brady asked for 2 year deals well before 2019. Bill wanted to drag him on year to year. Kraft should have stopped in and overruled BillWhy is it so hard to understand that Bill wanted to keep Brady. He didn't want to give him a 3 year extension before the 2019 season though.
Of course there were prior negotiations too. Your own statement agrees with my premise that Bill wanted to keep Brady.Clueless. Brady asked for 2 year deals well before 2019. Bill wanted to drag him on year to year. Kraft should have stopped in and overruled Bill
He had the GOAT QB and he wanted to play until he was 45. You only don't give him the extension if you are looking for an exist soon. Also let's call a spade a spade, there was friction between the two and Brady outright said he wasn't going to be there unless one of the two changed a lot in that dynamic. You might have got one more year out of Brady. It would have been an absolute circus trying to franchise tag a 42-43 year old QB who won 6 Super Bowls for the team. Why is it so hard to understand that Bill wanted to keep Brady. At the end of the day Brady wanted a longterm deal, Belichick wanted to go year to year. Bill wanted to be able to cast Brady off the minute he felt he was seeing a decline, Tom did felt disrespected and did not want the coach to dictate how his career ended. It was already coming to head.
Also there were several months between the Pats last game and Tom signing with the Bucs. Every single report was that there was radio silence from Bill regarding Tom's contract. If you're the GM and you blow it that bad with your QB, that's on you. If Maye ends up being good and then a similar series of events plays out, everyone here would be massacring Wolf for his handling of it.
He wanted to keep him on his own terms and was willing to let it fall apart and lose him if he Brady didn't do it exactly his way. That's a pretty loose idea of "wanting to keep" someone. He had the means to keep him, he did everything to ensure he would leave.Your own statement also agrees with my premise that Bill wanted to keep Brady.
You say potato I say he just didn't think he'd actually leave at 43 years old. Brady was under contract here through age 42 and he just didn't think he'd go. Not to mention he thought '19 would go better and Brady wouldn't be able to walk away. Then the quick exit gave Brady an out.He wanted to keep him on his own terms and was willing to let it fall apart and lose him if he Brady didn't do it exactly his way. Lombardi is nothing without Starr.Nothing without Brady
