How Bad Are We?

They're developing. This year seems destined for growing pains and learning. I think they’re well positioned for the future if they stay on track.

Glass Half Full:
Improving, hope for the future, more competitive, should be 2-1, could have been 3-0.

Glass Half Empty:
We are seriously debating whether or not these Patriots are good enough to beat the Carolina Panthers at home.

When you turn over the ball FIVE times in a single game and are *****ing about not being able to finish the last drive to tie or win the game you are good enough to win EVERY game you play.

When you turn the ball over 5 times in a single game you are flawed enough to lose EVERY game you play.

At this particular moment, no one has a clue what you are going to get game to game. But I will bet the house if they give odds on the Pats committing under 5 combined TO's this week. but that's as far as I would go.

There's a general lack of acknowledgement for all the things that went right on Sunday.

The schemes worked on both sides. Great gameplan for moving the ball on offense. Great gameplan for stopping them. Much better execution than their opponent on the vast majority of plays. That's a big time growth spurt that has gone largely unnoticed because of a few unfortunate individual efforts.

What do you think is easier to fix: A play where 10 guys won and one guy made a mistake, or a play where 11 guys look like they have no clue? That's the biggest difference between what I saw Sunday versus last year.

I like what I see from this team, but I have one major concern, and I think it starts with coaching which is why we see it on the field:
BALL SECURITY.
Belichick made it his number one priority, and he drilled his players relentlessly and they got benched immediately if they failed to do it.
So my main concern is Drake Maye's stat line of 16 career games, 24 total turnovers. THAT isn't good.

My expectations were low to begin with. I just wanted to see growth and improvement. I have seen improvement in:
1. QB play
2. Dline, without looking at stats, seems better against the run
3. Boutte
4. Offensive line, again, without looking at stats my tell me they are a better unit than last year.

Edit- Coaching, a little disappointed in the coaching in some instances including penalties but we will see

Ball security also has a high degree of 'dumb luck' involved, as well. There are SOME things you can do to control it, but sometimes there is just nothing that could have been done.

It's going to always be the Patriots vs patiots each week until this team can overcome thier own unforced errors. There hasn't been anything a team thus far this season that has done to overwhelm them it's been beating themselves!

The defense has been holding teams to marginal points.. more than good enough to win. The offense is much better than last few seasons. But has hurt themselves. Inexcusable goal line Turnovers..

The big positive is Drake he's the most important thing going forward.

Get to 2-2 and then show competiveness in next weeks loss at Buffalo.

Looks like the 7 win team I predicted them to be this year and with the arrow pointing up.
7-10 wins i still have them positioned for.. the most important thing is Drake has steadily improved on the arch he should be on. This team will have this season to make an imprint to at least become a team that is on the come up... providing they stop beating themselves..

Many forget Washington was in a rebuild/reset last season as well...

He wasnt wrong.

Well. the next month will tell us a lot.

FOR NOW, we might consider that we are very likely a hamstring injury away from being 3-0.

Turns out that ignoring that your RB1 fumbles a lot is not a good thing.

Yes, I'm grumpy this AM. Sorry.

Remember when they predicted the 2025 AFCE champ would be the Pats?

Turns out that ignoring that your RB1 fumbles a lot is not a good thing.
I believe Vrabel acknowledges it.. but given where it's his first year setting the culture and foundation... he understands that he actually needs rham.. so if the fumbles continue on like many of us expect.. Vrabel's going to be forced to act. It's what rham is.. he fumbles.. he fumbled his very first game as a rookie and as a veteran he's still fumbling.

None of these teams we see are gimmies.. 0-3 very well could have been as well as 3-0... the Patriots beat themselves when they stop doing this they will string together wins..
That is the hope.

But, hope is not a plan.
