Demario Douglas

Why should any of the FOUR other Game Day WRs sit in place of Douglas?

I'm not saying that Douglas has no future in the NFL (see Thornton), just no future on the 2025 patriots.

Douglas shouldn't even take snaps away from Chism (who I don't think should be given reps but would be active if there is an injury).

As the trade deadline approaches, perhaps we will be able to get a 6th or 7th for him. Alternatively, he could just be inactive.

Coaches and organizations don’t live in your who do I hate and wa t to cancel today world.
Coaches look at each player as an asset that is performing at some percentage of their capability, and the job of the coaching staff is to assess, identify, teach, coach, reteach, recoach each players short comings.
So no, they won’t cut Stevenson, they will review the fumbles, assess why they happened, coach Stevenson on his to prevent them, and get their most talented RB back in the field with better ball security awareness and technique.
The same goes for Douglas. Sure it’s easy to get bad that he did the very thing, but for coaches that is an opportunity to correct it don’t never happens again. His other issues which appear to be poor route running will also be coached up. His status on the with chart may affected by these failures, and another player may pass him, but the coaching staff will not say he has no role on the team for the rest of the year. They believe he was one of the best options. They will work on correcting the issues, not cancel him.

(Some) Fans sit back and wait for a player to do something bad so they can take their disappointment out on him and call for him to be kicked off the team. They don’t get that logically the guy behind him is worse, they just want blood because damn it they are entitled to having the team they like win.
Coaches find mistakes and go to work coaching the mistakes out of the player. They don’t banish them to Damn him we could have won island.

Douglas is not too bright it's obvious.

Maye targeting anyone but Douglas is completing 77.3% of his passes.
Targeting Douglas 38.4%

Slot receivers are supposed to have the highest % because they are short routes, easy throws.

Douglas appears to be the problem.
Thanks. I didn’t know the numbers but I was saying this before. For whatever reason it just doesn’t work with him. Stop forcing it.

Chism can play STs. He has more value.

It’s myopic to think that last play or the ending of the game was on Douglas. He was tackled as soon as the ball got there. The pass was also behind the sticks on 4th down. It was a terrible play call.

The offense turned the ball over 5 times, that’s why they lost. They cleaned up the penalties in the second half, so I’m not slamming them for those. Mistakes… just like the last two weeks.
His left foot, when he caught it, is on the first down line; he just hits the ground forward it's a first down. 100% on Douglas. It was a mental error not a physical error. He needs to know where the stick is so he knows what he has to do when he catches it. Simple, before the play he needs to look at the sticks.

Douglas is a JAG, was a JAG for 2 years. He's just OK, nothing special about him, has no catch radius but until this year he showed better hands, but he looks like he has smaller arms than Campbell.

Even the almost pick, he jogged his route instead of running it, only sped up when he saw the ball was too far in front of him, even then, he only couldn't reach it due to his catch radius.

Maye and Douglas have never clicked for whatever reason. 13 targets and 5 receptions.

Maye has completed 77.42% of passes to players not named Douglas and 38.46% to Douglas. It's obviously not clicking, try something else out. Whether it's like the Miami game and Diggs in the slot the whole time or replace him with Chism. Clearly does not work with Douglas right now.

I lean toward Chism because the WR room lacks YAC, all the YAC comes from RB's and once in a while Henry.
Also need more Kyle Williams, you could tell Steelers respected his speed, they played way off him. Let's not wait until eliminated from the playoffs to see Chism go 10 for 120 and Williams catching a bomb.

BTW, I first accidentally watched Hollins because he's #13 and WIlliams is #18 and I was thinking, wow, Williams sucks, he looks like my grandmother out there he is so methodically slow, then thankfully realized that wasn't him.

Douglas Needs to be Benched: even Tarzan Mack Hollins have more yards. What does that tell you. It's obvious Maye is not the problem.

Agreed. A couple weeks ago i would have said give it more time but right now hes in polk/baker/boutte rookie season territory. He has what, 15 yards? At this point its doing more bad than good having him in there and becoming a force feed situation like with polk last year.

Maybe we don’t have to pull the plug completely on him but he needs to at least sit a few weeks.

I really want to believe in Douglas. That said, he just isn't producing. He continues to drop his opportunities and just isn't making an impact on the game.

What's the point of putting an undersized wr out there if he isn't going to make plays?

I'm all for giving Chism a chance next week and seeing how it goes. Sit Pop, maybe that will light a fire.

That can be attributed to $hitty Coaching from that BB $5 regime. Which spilled over in Mayo's very short stint.
Hate to tell you this, but the coaching is worse right now. That should be obvious from the amount of errors this team makes. And also, Belichick didn't cut Peppers or let Mack Wilson go. He didn't cut Tyquan either.

And it appears you missed the point anyway. With young players, you have to let them develop. We're seeing too many of our young guys do well after developing elsewhere. Jake Andrews is another.

So you're saying it's all on Mayo: like BB didn't Draft a couple of those guys and couldn't develop them through his ten cents Coaching staff. You get what you pay for: of course he was making a cool $20Mill a year at the time. The BB Scouts couldn't even buy a four piece dinner at KFC: talk about balance.

Maye is at or close to leading the NFL in completion percentage. He’s at an nfl record completion percentage to everyone other than Douglas.
He is about the most accurate QB in the NFL.
If the receiver runs the wrong route, or runs it incorrectly a perfect throw looks missed, but that’s not the qb, it’s the route.
Maye is top 5, or top 10 in virtually every passing category. He also leads the team in rushing and rushing TDs. Why do people want shot on the trans best player to cover for a guy who has produced a total of 13 yards on 13 targets and just made the bonehead play of the year to end the game?
I didn't realize it was that bad...

I think Douglas may be a bad system fit for the McDaniels system. He isn't Welker, Edelman, or even Amendola. Those guys were precise route runners. Douglas isn't. That is why you saw Maye hit his other receivers right on target for the most part and all his throw being off when throwing to Douglas. I think Maye is throwing to spots where Douglas is supposed to be and Douglas just runs a too shallow or too deep route or makes his cut too early or too late.

The minute Chism gets' his shot: Poop Douglas is going to ask for his release and I would kindly grant him it.

It might be time to move on from Douglas or close to it. I think he is almost out of chances

We need depth everywhere but even if Chism takes the job from Douglas...Hollins and Diggs are still better backup options.

Why would you ever do that and better yet why would he?

Douglas is still on a rookie contract.

I didn't realize it was that bad...

It's obvious Poop have no awareness he did it some last year too. But I gave him a pass due to AVP's High School Offense. Vrabel and McDaniels can say whatever they want in front of the cameras. But we know they are very disappointed in certain Players behind closed doors.

To answer #1: it will prove that Chism is better and Pop is the problem. Regarding #2 we have Jeremiah Webb and Jon Jiles on our Taxi squad. We wouldn't miss Poop he stinks.

It's quite an interesting point.

First I would point out it's not only him he's had high throws to a varried number of WRs.

But I would agree there definitely seems to be an added disconnect between Pop and Drake right now that isn't there with some of the other guys or at least not as drastic.

And to your point I think a vast majority of that is on Pop's shoulders. I will point out 2 plays in my memory that I think were pretty much all on Drake though. First he under threw him in the ground a yard or 2 short on a simple screen that actually looked pretty open. Nothing Pop could do. And then there was a crossing route where Drake threw it well behind him again pretty clearly seemed to be on Drake.
No it’s him. Maye is completing 77.4% of his passes to everyone else and the NFL record is 74.4%. He is exceptionally accurate.
The screen was affected by a rusher he had to throw around. How do you know Douglas ran the crossing route properly? I’d he’s accurate with everyone else, why would you assume it’s his fault?
