OT: Brady booth-gate

If anything it's RKK's fault for not offering Tom Brady a piece of ownership after Tommy retired. That would have been a perfect opportunity to bring him into the fold.

It can't happen, this was covered earlier in the thread.

I think eventually the league is going to have to force Tom to do one or the other. This isn't going away any time soon and Tom's too...well, hate to say it...but arrogant right now to avoid forcing the NFL to make a decision.

I think it's a big nothing burger. What do they get out of production meetings? Basically the same basic crap we get on TV and hear from reporters thru out the week anyway. Gonzo is practicing but questionable for Sunday. Would coaches who work 80 hours or more a week not already have that figured out for the next opponent? No the real stuff that's an advantage is the LT rests his hands on his knees on pass plays but has them resting by his sides on pass plays. That sort of thing you only get thru film study and would it shock anyone if Tom watches a bunch on the teams he is covering? I bet he picks some stuff up and shares that and as far as I'm concerned that's 100% fair game nothing shady about it.

Does anyone still believe Brady is "a Patriot for life," as he proclaimed during his Hall ceremony last summer? He now bleeds silver and black.

I think there's a little more sharing of sensitive info with the broadcast teams. I'm sure some are more trustworthy than others.

I can't imagine the Giants trust Romo with a lot info. So it's not like this is something that new. Obviously ownership is a little different but still.

I think this is done so the teams can make sure the broadcast is on the same page as them. PR type stuff like if someone is hurt and playing they might let them know to go easy on the guy since he's not %100. But they don't expect the broadcasters to share the specifics on air and certainly not with the opponent. Or maybe watch out for this kid who's been developing he might have a big role in this one. They want the broadcast to be prepared for it but obviously have to trust they wouldn't spill it to the other team.

I don't think it's the most critical stuff but I do think there is info shared in these things. That said any sharing of info in this league is going to be highly guarded. And their are people all over you need to watch out for so this isn't anything different. It comes down to trust and that's part of the job for Brady either to build that trust by not sharing with his own club (doubtful) or to be able to do his job even though no one will share this info (helpful info but shouldn't prevent him from being good on its own).

I mean the league office is full of Jets fans doesn't give them much of an advantage lol.

Imagine a coach that has inside information and still finishes 4-13. Lol

I actually went and, you know, read what he said on the radio interview and basically it was "since he's so experienced in the game yeah he picks up things here and there as a broadcaster that others won't/can't see and he'll bring them up in conversations." You can argue that that's the most unfair thing to ever happen in professional sports if you want I suppose but it's very much NOT some case of him transcribing production meetings to then pass on to the Raiders or some crap.

What I find so amusing about this is the Owners are clearly fine with it. The owners make the rules and the unpopular decisions, the commissioner takes the bullets. That's always been the case despite Pats fans hating Goodell personally so much.

I think TB's goal is lead partner in an ownership group. I think he'd realize that the Kraft succession plan is fully in place so he'd probably not get that. It is thought Davis has no clear successor and his heirs will sell when he goes. Yet there is that tiny problem of the fact that they have a $2B valuation on the Raiders, and everyone understands that's ridiculously low. Tom's gotta glad-hand a lot of very rich guy to raise $billions.

And yes, then there is that whole salary cap circumvention thing. There's a huge controversy in NBA circles about Kawhi Leonard's no-show "promotional" contract from a sham business Ballmer "invested" in. Lord knows what's really going on in the NFL, but whatever it is, I think NFL, Inc prefers to avoid the controversy.

I don't blame Brady one bit for doing what's best for him, including going to Tampa Bay to win a championship and becoming part owner of the Raiders, because it's really the Patriots ownership that let him down.

Tommy should never have been allowed to leave and just been given a contract extension. The 2/50m he got from Tampa Bay is nothing for a franchise QB. BB just wanted to get rid and we know how well he did without TB12 now.

That's fair, dawg.

Brady definitely has longer term aspirations to be more than just a minority investor in a team and you are correct that that was never happening with an organization like the Patriots which is now a family inheritance. Would Kraft have offered him some token/ceremonial .1% of ownership to act as some borderline mascot? Sure maybe. Brady obviously wouldn't want that, he wants to actually have authority. There are only so many teams that are run by people who don't care about that and will let anyone buy in, and the Raiders are one of them because Mark Davis is (as far as billionaires go) cash poor.

I don't really care about non-Patriots Brady. Same with Bill. Both kinda showed how larger-than-reality they feel after Brady/Patriots and eh. For me, the gloss has lost its luster. Both are just kinda meh and annoying tbh. Go ahead, spend your life with a ****hole org in a city that reeks of corruption and, when considering hydrology, shouldn't even really exist? I dunno, who cares.

Now there's a take: Consider the city's water supply situation before you chose a team!

It's always so eye rolling to see the scorned lover fans go "lol I don't even care what that Brady guy does anymore, in fact I never really liked him at all!" You're either a liar or an idiot.

As we all know, no NFL team can EVER move locations if needed. Especially the Raiders who have been in Vegas since... oh right.

It's an interesting trend to watch, NFL owners trading paper valuation for real-world cash. It's not just Davis looking for some spending money, the Mara/Tisch combo owning the Giants just sold off a chunk too, to someone who is a sports investor and not looking to put on the headset in the booth or call an NFL game.

It's especially becoming more prevalent in the NBA. Sports franchises in general are now being folded into larger portfolios rather than being THE business of some individual and their family. Which is probably not great for the long term.

A very windy tempest in a very tiny teapot, but I guess if you are looking for something to get all huffy about, this will do, you know, in a pinch.

Interesting that Kelly feels compelled to address this. Perhaps not game plan prep, since Brady probably doesn't have time for opponent film study. But there's a ton of other things he can go over with Kelly from the prior week's game.

Tom and partner have over $200M on the table. Personally I'm confident he can find a nice chunk of time to do a film study if it helps preserve if not grow that investment.. I'd think if the team thought such work helped them win it'd enhance their willingness to sell Brady another chunk in the future because everyone loves a winner.

If they are nothing-burgers, the solution is simple, just cancel the meetings.
Yet no one wants to do that, so clearly they aren't nothing-burgers.
Or at least currently not, but coaches can/will make them into nothing-burgers if Brady is in the room.

If teams share sensitive information to Brady they deserve to be fired or the players released lol big nothing burger

i think Pierce just talked his way out of ever coaching in the NFL again.
