Assuming Pats end up picking high in the draft, which 2 top picks would you prefer?

Just to be different, I went with Tyson and Uigaleilei.

I'd be happy with just about any of the combinations listed, based on my current understanding of the players. My current point of view is to add skill position guys that have the potential to skew defensive or offensive game plans in ways that I don't think too many on the current roster are capable (I look at both Edge and CB as defensive skill position guys). Maybe it's because over the past 5 years I have spent so much time trying to watch guys play OT and I'm enjoying a respite from that.

I'd be happier if they are not picking high up in Round 1 and the best choice at that point were a young TE. Anyone catch Ty Warren's game this past week?

I will be very happy when we are picking in the back 1/3 of each round.

Fanu/Delane was very tempting for me. Love both players.

How would people feel about Caleb Downs-David Bailey as a tandem?

I think you're making a significant upgrade to the defense. We wouldn't be getting an every down starter in Bailey but in our attacking defensive style, we'd certainly be someone who could threaten the QB one-on-one without a reliance on blitzes.

If we somehow end up picking in the 21-32 range, then Dillon Thieneman/David Bailey would be a solid draft.

If we're picking top 10 (don't see Caleb Downs slipping past 10 at this point), then I'm not sure a sub rusher, even a good one, will be the best option available.

But agree it would upgrade the defense.

I know it's still early but I am much more excited about potential second round prospects this year than last. Who knows where they all end up, but it's a really good list of people who might be available in the 2nd round, especially when you factor in the likely rise of pass rushers, WRs and LTs into first round consideration.

Thieneman
Klare
Styles
Anthony Hill
Dunker
Lew
David Bailey

This kind of thread is one of thr main reasons I love spending time on this forum. I really enjoy watching college football (football without the angst for me) but for me it’s more fun to be able to check out how certain guys are doing. I have probably been 10 new guys to watch now.

Cheers to all

Backing off on Peter Woods for now.

Adding Arvell Reese + Dillon Thieneman under "other" for this week.

One option I've been thinking about are the two LSU DBs.

Rnd 1 - Delane

Rnd 2 - AJ Haulcy

Sign a FA pass rusher.

Makes the secondary a strength. It's not my first choice but I'd be happy with it. I still have Thieneman above Haulcy.

Not sure Haulcy fits Vrabel.scheme. More of a robber middle if the field guy than someone you can put on man coverage or use deep.

I'm not sure the LSU system is that different to ours with two press man corners on the outside and two versatile safeties in the middle.

Given the overall play of the OL and DL the first 2 games and some of the issues elsewhere, I wonder if the biggest upgrade to the team might be something like:

1. LB/EDGE
2. DB

Then address OL, TE and WR in rounds 3-4. Deep center and TE class.

Inching closer and closer to adding Reese to my Tier 1. Thinking he could have as much versatility and even more of an impact than Caleb Downs.

I get what you're saying but I think I'm still in the BPA camp. Just keep adding talent. I agree with your order of need but if someone like Connor Lew is the best person on the board, take him rather than reaching for an edge. Hopefully we'll have at least filled the roster vacancy in FA with a Chaisson-like signing.

I generally agree with you, but think you always have to go back and forth. If your highest graded available player is a LT and you believe Will Campbell is your long term fixtures at LT, do you still take the LT prospect?

But in general, I agree that you shouldn't pass up a better player for a lesser one at a position of greater need.

It does have to be within reason. I'm not taking a RB, QB even if they are BPA and I'd think twice about WR and interior DL. LT is different if you're confident they can either switch to RT or guard. Let's say BPA at a position of need regardless of what that position is. I still favour EDGE though just because a starter is harder to find on day two whereas you can still find a starting iOL, safety or LB there but I'm not reaching for one.
