As we've all seen through the first few weeks of patiots Football sitting at 1-1.. while the defense as a unit has been productive and leads the NFL in sacks... as we go along here and the match ups.. it's glaring how bad Gonzo's presence is missed.. those Big plays would be minimal with Gonzo locking up the opposing teams best WR..

When will we see him? Will he play in 2025-26? Is this a business decision he's making? Hamstrings are complex injuries especially for a all pro CB.. did he have a setback? Who knows!

Does anyone think Gonzo will play this season? The need for him is so obvious

I think coverage issues go beyond one player… the back end of the defense is a mess. They’re riddled with mistakes, zones are porous, they’re behind every play. Gonzo will help, but this is a bigger problem.

They don’t know where they’re supposed to be, and it shows.

Vrabel said today's its possible he is back this week. My Guess he is, it's been 8 weeks for a hamstring. Lets go already. Freaking Burrow is going to have surgery and will only be out one month more.

I was at TC when he got hurt, it did not look like or seem to be a big deal.
But what do I know.. guess I was wrong again.

Agreed. Safety is a bigger issue than CB. We probably have the worst Safeties in the NFL.

Steelers fans are convinced that they are going to lose.

They are mostly burnt out on Tomlin and his BS.

There’s talent, and there’s execution… when either goes wrong fans are quick to blame talent.

What I see looks like an execution issue, poor communication, slow to react, out of position.

I think it’s prudent to be patient and hope/assume they can improve.

QB's toe ≠ CB's hamstring

As per the post-game thread I listened to Bedard's podcasts and one of my takeaways was that he felt the defense was poor, didn't understand why we were in man so much, crapped on Spallane a lot, didn't think getting Gonzo back would make much of a difference if we still tried to play man with lots of guys on the field not good enough to play that scheme.

As to Wozzy's point I presume some of that extends to the safeties as well as the LBers.

I think the safeties are most to blame

Hawkins is getting picked on in coverage, and still makes dumb decisions sometimes. I think Woodson's been fine-to-good, and he's played 2 NFL games. He's at least got room to grow.

You have a good point 6... but we definitely miss Gonzo.. I like Austin.. however he's overmatched with hill or Waddle.. I don't understand why we cut DJ James..

Our Safeties and LBs suck in coverage. We all knew this (or should have) going into the season. This defense was always heavily reliant on the strong outside CB duo and inside pass rush enabling them to compensate for that schematically. So far they even have the added bonus of a potent outside pass rush because Landry has looked much better than he did last year in TEN. So getting Gonzo back will be a massive boost for sure, whenever that is.

Burrow reportedly to miss 3 months...
