That fast start they talked about really mattered. We had to withstand a serious 2nd punch by MIA.
I mean, we can't forget, they looked like crap in IND, but the Dolphins have really good (and fast) skill players.
It's not like they don't have good offense.
Yup. Miami is a mess, but last weeks clunker on O was a bit misleading imho.
Their D isn't good, but their O is much better than they showed against the Colts.

It is quite fitting, that Vrabel's first win as HC is @Mia - a place we hardly ever can win.
What we need to do is flip the home loss record though. We can't keep losing 80% of our home games.

They have a lot of bad teams on the schedule. The only average to tough matchups left are:

Steelers
Bills x2
Bucs
Bengals (Burrow may be hurt)
Ravens
I don’t want to get excited, we’re still far from a good team and it was the Dolphins after all, but so long as we see week to week improvement I’m good. We had it today with the OL, the running game and Maye. Now fix the penalties in week 3.

I would love to see the All 22 film to see if Pop is getting open and Drake isn’t looking his way or is he not getting open.
He didn't get as much run today, I'd be more interested in the snap count. Lots of Boutte and Diggs, I barely remember Douglas out there much. A lot of bigger packages helping in the run

We have to talk about our safeties

I dont know if Peppers would be much better in Coverage

But if we are going Cover 2 in 70% of our playes, those two NEED to be A LOT better. They were atrocious in the back of the defense
Yes, maybe the d backs coach needs to be benched. its the second week in a row they've looked disorganized

It's crazy what a difference a week makes. Last week he was overthinking everything. This week, he just played free, it was incredible
Last week was Drake's first with Josh, who is known for a complex offense (of course, much of that is with Brady's extraordinary football IQ). I wonder if the improvement his week is due to improvement by Drake, a better ability of Josh to adapt to Maye's and his strengths, or....

Some quick thoughts:

  • - Maye looked Josh Allen-like today. Today's game is probably his ceiling (remember he didn't have that many possessions today) which is good enough to be a Super Bowl team with more talent around him. Not sure if this will be what we see week after week. But there were plays he made today where you look at it and say "Yeah, he's THE GUY". The TD pass to Boutte and the long pass to Stevenson were as big as big boy plays as you can get.
  • - McDaniels needs to design more plays where Maye scrambles out of the pocket to make plays. The few plays they did it today, were some of Maye's best plays.
  • - Who said Maye has no pocket presence. There were two plays where he manipulated the pocket as good as Brady including the big Stevenson play.
  • - As bad as the defense was in the first half, I thought they were pretty darn good overall in the second half. Achane ran all over them in the first half and was totally shut down in the second (I think he only rushed for 7 yards in the second half). They were able to put pressure on Tua when needed in the second half.
  • - The special teams need to be better. Take away the Gibson TD and it was mostly a disaster on special teams.
  • - The Dolphins are a bad team. I think McDaniel is still going to be the first head coach fired. That said. The Pats have lost to really bad Dolphins teams in Miami Brady and teams that ended up winning Super Bowls. So you have to give it to the Pats for playing tough today.
  • - The Pats were far from perfect, but this is the first Patriots game I truly enjoyed watching in a long time. I have gotten used to watching out of habit and loyalty for the last three years or so. It is a pleasure to actually watching a game where it was fun to watch.

But they had a whole offseason together. It switched up like that in a week?

The pats being able to pass protect raises their ceiling. They’ll be able to more consistent unlike the last few years.

Agreed - I'm pretty positive because the offense is productive, and the issues the team is facing (sloppy tackling, pre-snap penalties) should be easy to correct.

I the Steelers game is going to be harder than folks think it is. The defense will have to play better.

IF they can stop committing penalties. thought those types of mistakes would have been cleaned up when vrable was hired i thought the team would be more disciplined

Congrats to the team for that gritty win.

I have no problem admitting that for this game he played very well. Let’s see if he can build off of that. Mac Jones had good games too.

Because if we are honest it’s a little bit like last week for the offense as a whole. Good first half and not much in the second half. Only 3 drives in the 2nd half and outside of the 2 great Maye plays on the 2nd drive, it’s two 3 and out. One at the end of the game where I think the offense should have closed the game out.

I think Pop was only on the field for 12 pass plays.

Diggs - 20
Boutte - 24
Hollins - 19
Williams - 3

That's pass plays mind, not total.

Mac Jones never had a game like this, beginning to end, consistent all the way through.
