whats the purpose of including headlines to peruse from pay to read sites (Athletic, Herald, Globe)?
is the intent to get people to subscribe for pay to read?
maybe I would if I was able to get a sampling of what's listed on this forum homepage.

No, it's just a feed that includes the headlines from the various news sources. I'm guessing some people subscribe, some don't. Some are paywalled, some aren't. But in terms of any intent beyond that on my end, I have no idea which are or aren't, unfortunately.

thank you
I appreciate the info.
I always appreciated Kyed's mailbag when it was free on X, but refuse to pay for the Herald.

I got it when they had a deal for $1 I think it was for six months. They have a good group there now between Kyed, Callahan, etc. Two solid guys, and they really do a great job.

I'm probably only depriving myself of decent content but the Internet is endless so I refuse to pay for content. I'll even struggle through some awful add filled crap that's probably phishing all my personal info so long as it's not behind a paywall.

agree. I do pay for some sites, but not the local Herald and Globe.

I remember the early 2000s working as a developer for a large and influential maker of network equipment and asking my younger co-workers if they were okay with giving up personal data instead of paying for content. The answer was uniformly that they didn't care if those corporate entities got their personal data. Once that model was entrenched there was no going back.

There were attempts to do "pay as you go" models but the banks hated that because it cheapened the value of each transaction i.e. they had to do more work per dollar earned.

So, now we're stuck with the monthly subscription vs ad-generated revenue models, with both mechanisms taking as much personal data as they can get their hands on.

Don’t think you are fooling me Ian, I know your power hungry, bloodthirsty, money grabbing type! You are taking in millions and millions off of these media powerhouses, and living in mansions spread across the world, while the rest of us scrabble for tidbits to feed our families. You ain’t foolin me.

That said, have a great day.
