Or it breaks a the confidence of a QB who is already dealing with a pretty bad situation and is showing some signs of being snakebitten. This is why I wasn't stoked on starting him right away last year. He really needed time to work on fundamentals and accuracy and was thrown to the wolves because we wanted a more exciting on field product and now he's known nothing but losing and pressure and mediocre receiving.Or just being benched for a game. Ive gotten a vibe from maye that he thinks its his job no matter what, that he would never be benched....... if his decisions and foot work don't improve., benching would be a wake up call
It can be worse. Having an Andy Dalton is almost worse than having a bust. At least with a bust you have to move on and don't have hesitations. A slightly above average QB makes teams waste years because they are scared that they could get worse even though they know they need better.Slightly above average can be disappointing.
I thought about that. maybe a game is too harsh. just like when a running back fumbles and has to sit out a couple possessions depending on the level of severity. For example last sundays int was caused by crosby hitting him as he threw. I didn't put a lot of fault on maye for that vs last year when he looked directly at a defensive back and threw it right to him. I would sit him for the next possession for that level of stupidityOr it breaks a the confidence of a QB who is already dealing with a pretty bad situation and is showing some signs of being snakebitten. He was a textbook case of someone who needed work and time to marinate, didn't get it and now is struggling with everything on his plate plus what he didn't get to take time to work on and now taking him off the field is a bigger problem.

There is no such thing as the 6th year of a rebuild. It can be worse. Having an Andy Dalton is almost worse than having a bust. At least with a bust you have to move on and don't have hesitations. Our next opponent hasn't won a playoff game in 25 years....they are still rebuilding. There is no such thing as the 6th year of a rebuild.
31 teams have been in the playoffs in the past 5 years.
Wow even the Jets have done that. Our next opponent hasn't won a playoff game in 25 years....they are still rebuilding.
The Pars with Mac Jones got smoked by the Bills in round 1There is no such thing as the 6th year of a rebuild.

Well, he has had 16 months of being told not to drift, set your feet, step into the throw. It is not rocket science.Maye doesn’t need to be benched (and Im good seeing Dobbs on the sidelines where he belongs) he just needs to play better snd be coached well.
No, Brady didn’t even call his own plays while Weis was the OC. He also had a year of studying and practicing the system without having to play.

In your opinion, what about the Raiders isn't a good team? Just curious. We have to wonder how long this young team goes before the proverbial light comes on. Hopefully soon enough to preserve their playoff chances.
I expected Vrabel to have them further along than they were. After a shaky first half I expected them to adjust and come out much stronger the second half… the opposite occurred. Maybe I was being naive or too optimistic. This might take time.
Either way... the Raiders aren't a good team, but they executed well. The Patriots simply played poorly.
I guess we'll see. Even for me it's hard to get over "Pumped and Jacked," but the surfer dude's been a good coach. He's also old but the Oldgee's prob been sustained by USC coeds. You have a good point here. Week 1 projections are based on the prior year and perception on the success of the off season. The impact of a coach and leadership on a team really can't be predicted. Based on the first game, it looks like the Raiders are better than expected.
I think it's contingent on Gonzo's being healthy.Agreed. I just want to see progress. I just don't think any expectations of possible playoffs helps anyone at this point.
Andy Dalton was better than Trent Dilfer, better than some other guys that won rings. His teams weren’t good enough, and it’s a team sport. So true. Seems you might be aware of it, but Andy Dalton has been used to define 'quarterback purgatory' where you are in limbo between having a true franchise quarterback and not having one.
One article that mentions it:
How do the NFL Quarterbacks Stack up on the Dalton Scale? - EssentiallySports
Recently, NFL analyst Chris Wesseling put forward the idea of the Dalton Scale. This actually posed one simple idea: Andy Dalton is the Prime Meridian...www.essentiallysports.com
Since so many articles about it have fallen off the Internet, here's an editted-down version of Google AI's summary of the concept:
The Dalton Line or Dalton Scale is an informal NFL concept created by Chris Wesseling, using Andy Dalton as a benchmark for quarterback play.
Quarterbacks ranked above the line are considered reliable, long-term options for their teams, while those ranked below are seen as indicating the need to find a better franchise quarterback. The idea is that any team with a quarterback below the Dalton Line should actively search for a new starter.
Above the Line:
A quarterback is considered above the Dalton Line if they are a solid, long-term franchise option, a player a team would want to keep.
Below the Line:
A quarterback is below the line if they are a good game manager but not good enough to lead a team deep into the playoffs, suggesting the team needs to look for a more impactful player.
How it Came to Be
The term was coined by NFL.com analyst Chris Wesseling and became a popular topic of discussion in NFL circles, particularly on platforms like Reddit. The concept gained traction by using Andy Dalton's own career as a reference point, where he was often seen as a quarterback who could win regular-season games but lacked the elite upside to take a team to a Super Bowl consistently.
Talent… as far as execution goes they were better than the Patriots and that’s all that mattered. In your opinion, what about the Raiders isn't a good team? Just curious.
