I think people got out of hand with the expectations on this team. The roster is still easily one of and arguably the worst in the league NFL. People hype it up that we have a few solid pieces… so doesn’t everyone else. We probably have less than anyone else or close to it. Last year we had none basically since Barmore was out so just Gonzo and then Maye - who is still all about potential because as of right now he’s not a good QB for a team in terms winning games, just an intriguing prospect to work with for the future. The fact that we started out with maybe the least talented roster I’ve ever seen just created the illusion that making as much improvement as we did was big strides. That much improvement was just what it took for us to still be one of the least talented teams in the NFL but within a normal range of the other such teams.

You can look at the schedule and project wins against weaker teams but the reality is we’re just as weak a team and they’re doing the same for us. We’ll win some of those games and we’ll lose some. This week we lost one by one score.
I expect more of that and also some times where we do pull it out.

This.

How did the right side of the OL do ? I don’t have a good eye for the specifics of OL play, but I don’t remember much chatter about Onwenu / Moses.

The PFF grades I saw said Bradbury was the best, then Onwenu, then Wilson, then Campbell, and Moses was the worst.

Las Vegas is one of the League’s weaker teams so losing to them at home sure leads me to believe NE is not significantly better than last year. Maybe a win or two better but people projecting 9-7 (or better) need their heads examined.

That said, we’re not the bottom of the division. I can’t believe how atrocious Miami is.

Great finish last night, Baltimore!
Not sure LV is one of the league's weaker teams, though. They have a coach who's had 1 sub .500 season (7 wins) his last 12 and a QB who's had a winning record the last 3. Curious how it all plays out.

That's probably Accurate.. the utter insanity not to run behind Wilson or Campbell is mystifying...

You have a good point here. Week 1 projections are based on the prior year and perception on the success of the off season. The impact of a coach and leadership on a team really can't be predicted. Based on the first game, it looks like the Raiders are better than expected.

How far the Pats have fallen. Today's standard is playing so that the game is not an embarrassing loss. Now that is embarrassing.
When you’re coming off back to back 4-13 seasons that featured bad teams and bad coaching that’s the standard.

We have to wonder how long this young team goes before the proverbial light comes on. Hopefully soon enough to preserve their playoff chances.

I expected Vrabel to have them further along than they were. After a shaky first half I expected them to adjust and come out much stronger the second half… the opposite occurred. Maybe I was being naive or too optimistic. This might take time.

Either way... the Raiders aren't a good team, but they executed well. The Patriots simply played poorly.

I read somewhere that the Raiders, along with the Pats, were one of the sleeper teams this season.

The way we played coverage at times made the raiders look better than they really are... we can't forget the HUGE absence of gonzo. Gonzo plays geno would have pedestrian numbers.

The thing I'm concerned about is mcdaniels and it's been a long running issue. His play calling gets very predictable when hes on his back foot.

2 run plays in the 2nd half is insane. No designated runs for maye. Henderson starts showing up and is immediately shut down.

Its troubling. Maye is an accurate qb who sailed some passes. The articles saying he cant sustain 15 play drives is so overblown and insulting. Basically saying hes only big play merchant tells me you have zero faith, cough cough Evan Lazar.

Ovveraction? Just listen to Folgers and Spaz. “He threw him under the bus!”

The main difference Sunday was that Geno played the QB position well and Drake didn't. Not the end of the world but is concerning because the story in camp was that Maye wasn't playing well.

It doesn’t hurt either…
I think it might. Expectations for this team were way too high. I'm entering this year same as last. Who on this team is worth keeping around and building around? And who will be gone by next season? Goes for players and coaches.
