Patriots Player Departure Pharms released

Elevated basically means we're dressing them right? I wouldn't have expected those 2 they've only been here for like a week.

Ok then. So much for that extension…which I didn’t understand in the first place.

Did you investigate the details of the deal before you decided that you didn’t understand it? They seem to have made the deal with the possibility that he would not be on the week 53 man roster.

It is also possible that he will be back after week one. They may have made the move in order to avoid guaranteeing his 2025 salary by being on the 53 man roster tomorrow.

Seeing a segment on “Patriots’ All access “ last season, Pharms might be too small and not very athletic but is a first rate individual. You know, it’s about “building a team not just collecting talent “. Technically, it wasn’t an extension as he was not already under contract for 2025 when it was signed. He got $350,000 guaranteed. Maybe, that’s the going rate for a good soldier and great teammate who you likely planned to be on the practice squad if he didn’t make (or stay on) the 53 man roster.

God I hope this team gets better quickly. Everyone is a critic. Critical of everything no matter how consequential it is or isn’t. There are people who post here who really think they’d do a better job than Vrabel or Cowden running this team. Now that’s hubris for you.

I think that almost all of us considered this unfinished business when the 53 was named, and even earlier. We wanted upgrades to Roy and Pharms. Gregory and Dutton are Vrabel's choices.

You had the thread a week ago, and Pharms was voted most likely to succeed.

I don’t know if we are in a position to acquire adequate replacements. But I applaud the effort. The NE Patriots have been (and may still be) a very bad team. That means almost everyone can be replaced at one point (and it’d be an improvement).

So if the Patriots are elevating three from the practice squad and only releasing one player, doesn't that mean two more players need to be released?

Or am I missing some new rule here?

Edit: thank you for the responses and clarification.

They did not elevate 3 players - they cut Pharms, replaced him on the 53 with Durden, and then did two standard game-day PS elevations which don't take up roster spots.

I initially thought this was more about trying to sneak him to the PS with the timing, but considering his replacement on the 53 was another DT, I am not so sure. He might just not be the best fit. Still, would not be shocked to see him stick around on the PS for scout team purposes.

Thank you, that is the part that I was not understanding.

Senior moment, I forgot about teams having the ability to do so (effectively a 55-man roster).

The thread said that Pharms was most likely to make the cutoff to 53. He did.

That is not at all the same as most likely to succeed. Many of us have been begging for an upgrade to last year's Roy and Pharms since the offseason began, and some like the cap considerably before that.

Some of us trusted Vrabel to find backups near the cut or within a couple of weeks thereafter.

Gregory was certainly a reasonable replacement. This step is gravy. And, just BTW, I expect Pharms to be on the Practice Squad.

I presume that they play ST's.

No. 2 are Game Day Elevations.

Durden was signed to the "53".

Kinda surprising - not that Pharms is great, but certainly produced more, and played a good amount last year.
Durden hasn't done anything in the league. He's just bit bigger, and 2 years younger.
Pharms did have a good motor, and played strong for his size. We'll see.

We dont get to see the behind close door practices but Vrabel is about production. Its about now and not a contract they signed earlier...you still have to show it in practice and produce.
