Bill vs TCU game thread

Agreed. He will still win 8 or so games and make some third-rate bowl, but that is generally what UNC does.
Projecting 8-3 the rest of the way for the team we saw Monday night is extremely generous.

Agreed. He will still win 8 or so games and make some third-rate bowl, but that is generally what UNC does. They are paying Bill to get them a level or two above that. If they get blown out by every halfway decent opponent but are able to beat Charlotte and Richmond and those nobody schools, I don't know if that is enough to keep him around for a second year. If the whole girlfriend sideshow wasn't happening, I think Bill might get a little bit more leeway, but if things start going sideways within the next couple of months, his minions will be getting their marching orders on who deserves the blame.
They're paying him a lot I think it would have to go way worse not to see year 2. But anything short of some crap bowl and that seat will be burning hot next year.

TCU is an elite program and based on what I read of his schedule, he won't see many of those.

TCU elite? This is more Bill Truther nonsense.

They aren't even top-25, even after whipping the GOAT coach's team.

There's four top-25 ranked teams in Texas, and TCU isn't one of them.

Looking at the video from the game, one's reaction should be that it looks like Bill is way behind in recruiting and in coaching his players.

It shouldn't be to make excuses for him by referring to TCU as 'elite'.

I am by no means a college football expert but I know down there boosters run the show. If they are willing to pony up to move on who knows but I would think as long as the dingbat keeps quiet and the team has a respectable season Bill will be back if he wants to be. I just don't know if they will have a respectable season and if she will shut up.

Nope not elite but not surprised a few years removed from playing in the title game that that they would be ahead of UNC. I didn't expect that but it's one game.

Barring a real scandal I don't think she has much to do with it maybe after year 2 she's deemed to much of a distraction. Also she's a hot mess but expecting a real scandal isn't fair to her either.

With or without Bill they probably aren't dropping another 50 mil until that's off the books so year 2 imo is almost a given. I'm not sure how bad it would have to be to pull the plug year 1 I'd probably wouldn't start that conversation unless we're talking under .500 and even then it doesn't change the financials.

How did what you see from that game look different than Bill's last two seasons as HC of NEP?

To me what I saw was poor performances from an assemblage of low to mid end players, and a very highly paid coach not holding himself accountable.

Now those players have to deal with being made a laughing stock in front of UNC royalty such as Micheal Jordan and a national TV audience.

I bet a lot of those players have regrets for falling for the whole GOAT coach recruiting pitch, and next year's potential players are taking note as well.

This 2025 Tar Heel team appears to have taken 2 giant steps backwards compared to last year.

$40 million is an awfully big **** sandwich, which is what UNC would owe him after this season. He may quit, but I don't see UNC canning him no matter how far south they go.

I agree for strictly on field performance it is unlikely. I think the girlfriend sideshow would need to continue/get worse and then having his mouthpieces like Lombardi start blaming the school etc for Bill to not make it to year two.

I think it looked worse. By a lot lol.

But I also think those kids have been working with Bill for months now and have already formulated opinions which I'd like to think won't be swayed so quickly. I'm sure some players have some second guessing like the back up QB but if more then a select few players are panicking like that after 1 game then they weren't the right players.

Being the cynic I am, I could easily see Bill the economics major making the calculation that no matter what I do I will make it into Year 2 of the contract so I'll bank at least $20M for this gig, so why not go for it?

$20M offsets an awful lot of reputational damage.

I can also see Lombardi talking him into it, using similar reasoning.

Plus, when's the last time if ever that Lombardi got a $1.5M payday?

Al Davis sure as hell wasn't paying him that kind of coin.

Quick side note. This and the remaining threads for this season following Bill's first season are still welcome, but I'm going to move this one and any others to the College Sports Forum moving forward, beginning this weekend.

However, if you create a thread and you're worried it won't get seen, the bar at the top should make them visible and easy to toggle back and forth between each forum. Many of us also have a strong interest due to the draft, and I'm certainly curious to see how he rebounds both this week and throughout the year. So I think we'll start seeing more threads begin appearing in there, which should hopefully help with that as well.

And it didn't get better in NE. Every week we got the "we gotta get better" song and dance, but the team did not get better.

We're talking about 18 to 22 year olds getting blasted on national TV. Nothing in their high school career prepared them for this kind of exposure.

I'm sure some players have some second guessing like the back up QB but if more then a select few players are panicking like that after 1 game then they weren't the right players.

The problem is if they aren't the right kind of players you are stuck with them this entire season, and their performance will influence next year's recruits.

Not that my opinion matters, but I'm okay with that.

Also I'm OK with the Bill/girlfriend one going into the Legacy forum or elsewhere.

I view these threads as off-season distractions.

Now that there is real football, LFG!

That's what happens when you get the QB wrong. It's funny how hard this is to see for the "#AllBrady" crowd. Really all I've ever claimed is that I felt he deserved another shot with another QB. And defend him vehemently against the trash spewed. I can explain some of mistakes without it meaning it's not his fault.

That's a 2 way street. Young kids haven't been exposed to a lot of that and for some it will be jarring. They can either rally behind Bill or panic. I'd like to the vast majority won't panic after one game and that they've already learned enough about Bill and from Bill through the spring and summer that it would be easy to stand by behind him still. And their youth probably doesn't exactly embolden them to go against the man so quickly.
The problem is if they aren't the right kind of players you are stuck with them this entire season, and their performance will influence next year's recruits.
Yeah well the players and coaches have to trust the process and if they are the right players they will and then they should be able to turn it around quickly especially vs the weaker teams. At least enough so to get to next year where you can use the lessons learned to weed out the problems and bring in a second crop of your guys.

He shoved Brady out the door with no backup plan so why trust him to handle another quarterback? Bill decided a broken down Cam Newton was the best option. Then he took Mac Jones and his popgun arm and flip-flopped him and Zappe for a couple seasons. We were supposed to trust him with another QB?

Nope. One of the traits of the Brady era Patriots is they played their best from December onward a lot more often than not. That stopped happening after Brady left. That's a coaching problem.
