Imagine signing your own defensive coordinator to your practice squad. Wild. Vrabel really puts them to work.
Would the CBA let them do that?

Or is it okay because he is DC and on the practice squad as a RB so on offense?

I made the mistake of tuning into Felgar and Mazz in the car and that big bald douche bag Jim Murray opens the show by stating that KB’s trade request was a major red flag for the overall health of the Patriots organization, because if he felt good about the quarterback and the direction of the team that he would want to stay. All three of those boobs completely ignored the multiple reports from earlier in the day by credible sources, including Reiss, stating that the only reason that Bourne made the initial 53 was the potential of a trade with Minny.

Bourne and his agent likely knew that he was going to be cut if that deal fell through and so they put that report out about him requesting his release before he was officially released, to try to save face….which is why Vrabel made that statement comparing it to getting dumped by a girlfriend. It’s so pathetic the way that they blatantly just manufacture controversies, in order to fill air time.
I used to like their show. Of course, I only got bits and pieces while at work for the first 3 hours of it.

In May, I had heart attack. In late June, I had triple bypass surgery. Needless to say, I’ve not worked since the heart attack and am basically desperate for entertainment to fill my day. After a couple of months of watching all 4 hours of the show, I can no longer stand to watch it for even a few minutes.

Those people are pathologically negative and critical people. It’s constant. If there’s a negative or conspiratorial spin to discuss a story, they’ll find it or make one up otherwise.

Do the Browns have some fetish with our 2022 draft class? If so, that’s a strange fetish.

I’m glad that you’re with us and hope that you’re doing well!

I detest commercials but would rather suffer through ads than listen to Felger. He’s brutal. He used to be ok doing bits and pieces early in his career but he’s insufferable now.

But you would prefer players who have been here since June for continuity, especially when it's a new staff with so much player turnover.

Vrabel's trying to build something, and it's a legitimate criticism that he was too fast with the hook on guys like the Andrews, and a few others, but I don't blame him for sticking with the group here since day one, if he hasn't given up on them.
I think for positions 54 and up the idea is to swap players in and out and develop guys over a year or more. I think the practice squad is for late bloomers or small school guys to develop physically and competitively. Staying in the system for the initial 6 weeks is not that important for a long term training position like the practice squad. This is not the same as being on the 53 man roster.

"After 4 years" most coaches are lucky to stick with a team for that many years. The draft matters!
I agree. The draft matters, finding guys on the waiver wire matters, and signing the right FAs matters. Theoretically we could develop the whole team through the draft but realistically there will be mistakes so signing guys that other teams draft will always be important.

If you look at it as drafting guys from college teams or other NFL teams, we sign all players through a draft of one type or another.

I'm out of market (Toronto area) and got access to NBC Sports Boston just over a year ago. Was ecstatic when I found Felger & Mazz, what Pats fan wouldn't be. Well....a year later and all 3 of those guys make my skin crawl. None of those 3 know football, but will drone on and on about anything they can be negative about. Betrand and Zolak aren't much better. Bertrand is also really negative most of the time. And Zolak...for a guy that played in the league you would think he would offer a lot more insight. His takes are really bad, he really isn't the sharpest knife in the draw.

Baker and Westover shouldn't be on the 53...both should make our Taxi squad.
We have to have a 3rd TE and FB.

They are the biggest clowns in the Boston media. They don't report news. They invent it. Jim Murray is a total idiot, and I heard that same segment. After today, my new rule is when that buffoon opens his mouth, I go over to WEEI. If they see ratings dip, they will get the message. But here is the problem. Murray represents a massive portion of how Pats fans act. Just read their posts here.

Whether a player comes from the draft or FA (drafted by other teams) makes no difference after the first 4 years.
It does if you want to flex that your drafted players are getting 2nd contracts. Good GM flex

First they drafted halfBaked last year instead of Maye's go-to target at UNC Devontez Walker;

Now they don't bother to claim his Center (and one of his best friends on the team IIRC) who could've doubled as a short-yardage FB, Willie Lampkin. Dude at barely 6' still has a longer wingspan than Stumpy.

It's like they're purposefully trying to make this success thingy as difficult for him as possible.

Kinda like signing Nobody with Left Tackle experience.

And like having Nobody on the roster who has taken snap one at Left Guard in this league, ever.

Tez Walker and Baker had the same season.

I will criticize and give credit when due.

Criticism - why was not 1 of the interesting offensive line prospects picked up and added to the roster? Seems like a mistake to me. I think they've made mistakes with this oline all season

Credit - they cut some guys I was surprised about and questioned all the time, but they all made it back to the PS. So they took the proper temperature of the room there.

Which is why the practice squad should be fluid all season.

But I agree with Vrabel that 6 weeks is not enough time to evaluate a player, and that he's better off, at least to begin, sticking to players he's already begun working with rather than bringing in new ones.

I think it was more that Minnesota was shopping and when they landed Thielan they brought a home town hero home so they no longer needed Bourne.
True, plus once they knew we were shopping Bourne if they didn't bite he'd be cut and they could have them on their terms.

KB didn't want to take a salary cut here but guess what, now he's gonna be taking a salary cut if he wants to play.

Unfortunately that's how things play out for most people being let go this time of year.

Looking at how much talent this team still needs... it's amazing that we won as many as 4 games last season.

Wishing you the best possible recovery!

In the case of Felger, it's learned behavior. He says he got it from watching his father yell and scream about the Packers on Sunday morning, then ***** all week long about how terrible a team they are.

And, indeed, it is a bit. There is an interview with him from years ago where he admits he's giving the audience what they want. He's not a total idiot. He's a BU grad and was a beat writer for over 15 years. His gig is performative. It's led him to marrying the lovely Sarah Underwood, raising two daughters and having property in the Seaport district and Nantucket, according to Wikipedia. He's laughing all the way to the bank. So are Mazz and Murray.

Chris Hogan said something similar on his recent podcast with Christopher Price.

He mentioned an experienced player in a stable environment like TFB could tell right away what WRs he had chemistry with, and had the juice to get the ones he didn't have chemistry with dropped, so it was okay to keep switching WRs till Tom found ones he liked working with.

He says a young guy like Maye in a new system was so busy working on his own stuff that changing the WRs around him a lot would be a bad thing.

They aren’t idiots, but they most certainly are hard to take.

They are shock jocks, that’s their brand and it works for them. However none of those 3 really know much about football. I originally was thrilled to tune in, a show that talks Pats here and there for 4 hours, awesome. Unfortunately it’s nothing more than an unintelligent ***** fest.

Indeed, and we can say the same about TV news channels. The lowest common denominator approach of hours of unintelligent ***** fests rule the air waves these days.

The best I can do these days is find podcasts such as Chris Price with Chris Hogan, and Greg Bedard. Unfortunately not hours per day of coverage, but at least I keep my sanity and my podcast app has content from my other interests/hobbies to fill the rest of the time.

Even Tom Curran often goes with the fellowship of the miserable approach. He's really good when he reports on what he is seeing on the field, he really sucks when he tries to emulate Felger and Mazz. He seems to want to be everything to everyone, a serious sports journalist while also being able to roll in the mud, and he doesn't pull it off well at all. In pro wrestling and in sports talk a heel is a heel, you gotta lean into your part or it just doesn't work. So, I used to listen to Curran's podcast but don't bother any more.

Looking at how much talent this team still needs... it's amazing that we won as many as 4 games last season.

The underlying truth is that it isn't that hard to win four games in the NFL.

It's been a while since we've had a zero win team.

The NFL system of giving high draft picks to bad teams while also having free agency means you really have to be both incompetent and poor to really bottom out. There are also minimum spending rules that mean even the poor teams have no choice but to try to find some talent worth being paid.
