Old Friend Jakobi Meyers reportedly wants out of Vegas

The Raiders will want WR's in return. Dugger, Pop and Hollins for Meyers.

Meyers easily replaces any production Hollins might have had and he's 3 years younger. Pop is very athletic and is a good WR3 but I think Chism can replace him now. Chism is a better overall football player. Meyers can help out at WR3 as well if needed. The team get younger with these moves...building for the future.

He wants a new contract… has nothing to do with preference.
That's good - although someone might want to remind him that he stands a better chance of getting that with another 1000 yard season and the QB often can play a critical role in that

There is no way this happens. Jacobi and Hollins are not even close to the same type player. They are very different tools. Hollins plays ST. Hollins is a Red Zone target at 6'4". Its crazy to think that he had under 400 yards last year and still more TDs than Jacobi. If you listen to the way the players talk about Hollins leadership in the locker room, you know the value he brings to a young, undisciplined room from last year. That is his biggest value. It would be idiotic to give up Pop right now. Chism has not played a single snap in a real game. Maybe he is the future, but we have no idea yet. There are plenty of WR who ball out in pre-season and never make it. Hello Bam Childress.

Need to see 900yds or more from Pop this year.
I always hesitate to put a specific bar on someone. Are you going to be mad if he puts up 850 and falls short?

For me I think he's heading into his third year so that does come with more expectations and I think this system should suit his skills very well. So I'm as high on Douglas as anyone right now. I really think he will pop this year (pun intended).

I fully expect yardage and reception numbers to go up but I just don't want to set expectations too high.

Nope the bar starts @ 800 yds in year 3.

Trade that bum Kendrick Bourne and dugger for Meyers. Hollins is practically worthless as a wr but they always want some weird approximation of slater on this team for st

Why would you guys want to pay $15-$18M for a player that is a high volume, low YAC and low scoring threat WR?

That works too. I agree with @imahobgoblin about Hollins locker room presence...I do think it's important. But that only last a year seeing how he only last one year at every team he's been on. I'd still rather have a younger more productive Meyers.

Hollins has had 15 TD over a 9 year career. Jakobi has 20 TD over the last 3. I don’t dislike Hollins, but the whole “Mack Hollins, Red Zone Weapon,” argument seems flawed.

Jakobi is also 6’2”, 200lbs. He’s not as big as Hollins but he’s not a small man.

I don't know how that started.

Sadly I fear a lot of things on this team are a product of a lack of talent. In other words we don't exactly have great red zone threats so you sign someone with size like Hollins and just start assuming he'll be better red zone threat than we have.

I fear something similar could be happening with some of our rookies too. Is our rookie class this good or are almost all of them making it just because everyone else sucked. (I'm sure a little of both but doesn't change the fear)

He’s averaging about 80 catches for 6 TD and 850-900 yards a year over the past 4 years. And he’s proven he can play in a McDaniel’s offense. Those are pretty good credentials for me.

That he no longer is mostly a slot guy makes him appealing as I think we have a bit of a log jam at slot with Pop, Chism and Diggs (based upon my probably incorrect projections on the roster)

I’m not sure I’d trade for him unless the price was really right as it looks like he wants to test the market and get paid. I think we could just get him after this year just for money. I think we probably have the most interest in him than anyone else not named the Raiders.

Meyers is good Juju not bad Juju. Wish we could have that FA back.

So Jacobi had 4TD last year and broke 1000 yards for the first time. Hollins didn't break 400 yards and had 5 TD. Hollins is 6'4" and has good hands. How is that practically worthless when our Red Zone offense has stunk for years? We have to move the ball AND score. Jacobi does not have a nose for the end zone. He never has. Hollins won't put up big numbers, but he wasn't brought in for that either. You have to be deaf if you have not heard almost every WR state his value and leadership in the press conferences. They somehow always get on the topic of Mack. A massive problem last year was the immaturity of the WR room. They were entitled divas and it got ridiculous. Hollins was part of the solution to that. Diggs' work ethic is another. We have not had a report so far with an immature WR this year, and we won't. Vrabel and McD fixed it, partially with Hollins.

"I want All Pros at EVERY POSITION, we have money d%#*!@t!"

If the price isn't too far above reasonable, I'd take him on.

Jacobi had 4TD last year and 1000 yards. Hollins had 5TD and under 400 yards. Hollins is a better red zone weapon than Jacobi, Henry, Pop, and Boutte. Probably not Diggs. Hollins has good hands and is 6'4". He is just a naturally better target. They are trying to find a massive upgrade, but none have been available for the right price. You can't sit and do nothing. You still have to upgrade, even if its just a little talent at a time.

Fans started buying into the hype that this team is a playoff team, and now that is crashing a bit with the recognition that the previous roster was trash. That is proven by the lack of draft picks from previous years making the team. We had a good offseason, but I still believe that this roster needs another 2-3 offseasons to be fixed. Goal # 1 is a winning record. We have a shot at that this year with the strength of schedule. Goal # 2 is to fill out the roster with starting talent in 33 positions. ST obviously isn't its own 11. Goal # 3 is depth. This is one thing the Eagles have mastered and we are a very long ways away from.

There was a leadership vacuum last year. That started with Mayo. Vrabel runs a tighter ship. There are a number of factors in a greater level of maturity in the WR room. Hollins may be a factor, but he’s not the only reason.

5 TD is great. It is also a statistical outlier. Jakobi had 10 TD his one year in a McDaniel’s offense. The calculation of dividing the TD by yards of offense, I find puzzling. More yards = better. Ultimately more yards leads to more points even if it’s just getting first downs to let another player score or kick a field goal.
