Old Friend Jakobi Meyers reportedly wants out of Vegas

If we go for Meyers, Chism better still make the 53.

So we are looking at Diggs, Douglas, Boutte, Williams, Hollins, Chism, Bourne, Meyers,

8 WRs?
I suspect Bourne is gone. If they want to get to 6 then Hollins seems to be the logical choice

People still underrate Meyers here. He’s improved since he went to the Raiders and is a top 30 WR. He lines up wide 65% of the time (Diggs was at 45%). He isn’t a slot WR anymore. The pats should consider adding him & trading away a depth WR.

Had to respond and disagree with this.

Thats a “win now” attitude that sacrifices the future for the present.

This team does not have a sufficiently good foundation to justify that tradeoff. It sacrifices the future for a mediocre present.

We are still rebuilding. That means developing a solid foundation for the future, not selling out the future for a few more present wins that will at best take us from middle of the pack to slightly above average. Slightly above average with no future prospects is not where we want to be.
Is trading Dugger really selling out the future?

Which is why it will be hard to see the Raiders trading him. It's negotiating leverage from Meyers but he has to play to get to free agency and be paid next year so he only has so much leverage.
It'd be nice to get him back, he'd upgrade the receiver room for sure but he's LA's #1 receiver, 2 weeks before the first game is probably a good time to use his leverage for a new deal. Raiders are good on cap space, I suspect they get some type of deal done.

Let's see if Raiders are dumb.

He played only 15 games last year. On pace he would have had more yards than WR like McLaurin, JSN or Garett Wilson

Let's keep in mind the Raiders said they have no interest in trading him so for now you're spot on in saying this is negotiating tactics. The last 2 in similar spot just got new deals (McLauren and Hendrickson).

I am probably being selfish because I am sick of watching bad football. I don’t think there is any real chance we trade and pay for Jakobi but I wouldn't really be mad either way. It would be nice to see a solid 1-3 at receiver for Maye but it would also be nice to keep developing Demario Douglas and start developing Kyle Williams.

I think most of our young guys are still developing ie... Pop - Boutte - Williams and Chism. Now it's for them to get on the same page with Drake Maye and vise/versa.

Pop is better in the slot than Meyers, Chism is a good alternate… play the guys we have.

Need to see 900yds or more from Pop this year.

I like Jakobi, liked him when he signed as an UDFA, argued for him in 2019 when people on fansites said he was a jag and Tommy needed “weapons.” That being said he is older now, and was never very fast. Pop has Pop… play the youth.

i’m for it. I doubt it’d be dugger though, raiders could have had him at any point last month for not much. I doubt they suddenly want him because Meyers asked out.

Diggs, Douglas, Boutte, Williams, Chism, Hollins…

You also have to pay him, so who are you cutting to add Jakobi?

Except for his rookie year Jakobi has >700 yards a season and >800 for the past 4 years. Pop has never broken 700 yards. Neither guy is a TD machine, but Jakobi had 8 last year. How you getting here?

Jakobi had Brady to start his career, Douglas had Mac Jones… be patient.

I'd guess maybe Boutte goes to Vegas.

Kindof tough not to blame Jakobi for wanting out - my guess is he wasn't too bouyed about Geno Smith etc and neither was the front office, trading for Kenny Pickett today.

Not sure if that changes things for Jakobi and his outlook on another 1000 yard season.

I get it though - he'll be looking for a big paycheck if he can sustain that production and he wants to play somewhere with a better QB.

I’d keep Boutte and his 1 million dollar a year salary over paying Jakobi at this point. Similar players, Maye loves Boutte… Jakobi won’t take pennies on the dollar.

He wants a new contract… has nothing to do with preference.
