3rd QB

The giants and Browns both wanted multiple shots on goal at qb. The patriots seem to be reluctant to bring in a good 2nd or 3rd qb because they are skittish about threatening Maye
Pats goal is to avoid talented backup qbs at all costs
They’d rather the guy have a brain but no ability.

there is zero evidence of that
Bazooka Joe is not a good back up QB. he will never thrive in McD's short pass, quick decision offense.
Dobbs, can, and has, won games in the NFL. he can come in mid game and keep the game plan going. he can run each weeks offense, not scaled back, if needed.
until someone better comes available, Dobbs is the guy

Vrabel chose Dobbs.

No one else is going to be the #2.
Personally liked Wooldridge better from what I saw. However, I’ll leave it to the professionals. They know what they were looking for and that’s that. As a fan it’s hard to tell sometimes when he’s playing with the 2nd and 3rd team who is the guy? Thought he had a pretty good on field relationship with Chism though.

Maye needs to learn how to absorb hits the way Brady did. That was just one of the ways Brady found to stay healthy, Yoga and a variety of other disciplines worked as well.

Absurd to waste a roster spot on QB3 at this point. Rather have another kicker instead of a 3rd QB. This team isn't the 2017 Eagles who were competing for a championship and could use QB depth just in case.

Watched Joe Milton the other night.

Too bad the Pats dont have backup QB like him.

did Joe even remotely look like a QB that can make quick decisions, short passes, and absorb an offensive game plan that changes weekly?
the Joe I saw was playing pick up football, with a "go long" offensive scheme. against a vanilla defense of 3 teamers and guys that will not be on a roster in 2 weeks.
that's not a back up. that's a prospect.

I like him as well, as a prospct to work with
he is no where ready to play in an offense that changes week to week.
we have only seen him against vanilla defenses.
PS only if he stays imo

Joe Milton > Patriots current backup.

Some movement, Vikings signed Carlson Wentz and shipped Sam Howell to the Eagles.

I think we stay with Dobbs, not ideal but he has regular season games under his belt, some years in the league, I think it's Maye or bust and Vrabel not only knows that but is part of the plan, part of his evaluation of Maye long term, he needs to not only play well but stay healthy throughout the season, phisically and mentally, not breaking down like mac Jones after a series of 3 bad games, protecting his body against cheap shots, not getting concussed trying to save a lost play with his legs, throwing the ball away, recovering after a bad pick 6, all of that is part of the evaluation.

A franchise Qb needs to stay upright through 17+ games, I know injuries happen, non-contact injuries there's nothing anyone can do about it but those QBs that are every now and then around injuries or unavailable are rarely a passport to playoffs and SB.
So we couldn't use Howell who already beat us??

They'll take a developmental guy for the practice squad. I'm not expecting to see any established names, or even established backups like Tommy DeVito (although I actually like the guy).

If Maye went down for any significant time, then they'll sign a veteran, but I think not until then

I think people are going to be surprised with some of the turnover at the end of the bench, making room for players cut from other teams, and where they can, stash some depth on the practice squad.

They need to upgrade this team beyond where they are - I look at this season as an opportunity to try out a lot of bench players to upgrade the team even before the next offseason, when they'll be investing even more at key positions like OL

They are concentrating on making Maye. A captain a alpha a leader, Vrabel talked about it enough times that it’s a point of emphasis and important to him that Maye can lead.

If another young gun slinging QB makes some strides some nice plays they don’t want the foxboro faithful yelling for Will Howard when Maye makes a mistake.

But a Jouneyman QB Career backup who feels more like a Caddy to Maye than someone gunning for his spot, let’s Maye focus on learning the offense and not losing confidence when he makes mistakes and have doubt creep in.

I think this was an internal conversation ok what ruined Mac Jones, the lack of support, the lack of talent around him and him constantly looking over his shoulder for Zappe.
If that’s the actual thinking, I have lost most of my confidence in Mike Vrabels leadership.
That is Mayo level BS.

I just can’t think of another reason to not grab a quality number 2 who win a game or 2.

They like Dobbs.
Thats a much more reasonable answer than they think their franchise Qb is a low confidence ****y and want to support him bring that.

Who else was out there clearly better? Dobbs was Shanahans hand picked qb2 last year.

Dobbs has won in the league
he does have some good film.
