OT: NCAA penalties for Michigan "spygate"

That's not pocket change. Also sounds like Harbaugh is banned from college coaching until 2038, the 10 years applying after his current suspension ends... wow. His punishment being the most severe sounds like the NCAA believes the whole thing came from him. The Chargers won't do anything but I can't imagine they're happy about this news..
the money is a write off... the punishment of Harbaugh, toothless... he's gone, doesn't need to come back to the college ranks...

If the NCAA really wants to stop the chicanery, they need to bring back a SMU-like death penalty...no games for 5 years, players can transfer without restriction... that would stop stupid games people play at the college level...

i don't think that the scouting they did is "bad", and the punishment shouldn't be draconian (ie no death penalty type stuff) ... just about every game is filmed anyways... but, much like Belichicks stupid scouting program, if they tell you not to do it, then don't do it... it is really that simple...

Same goes for Kraft's video morons in Cleveland. Still can't believe stupidity like thinking it was ok for anyone associated with this of all teams to point a video camera at another team’s sideline really cost us a 3rd round pick.

I can see why the kind of scouting that Michigan did was banned though.. huge advantage for big schools who can afford to do advanced scouting every week when smaller schools can't.

I wonder where he’s looking or listening for Americas fan base, I listen to college sports radio on SIRIUS and most fanbases are whatever can’t wait for the 2025 season, now Spartans and Buckeyes totally believe it wasn’t enough.

They were filming the Bengals while they playing the Browns in Cleveland. I think.

Such a stupid ****ing mentality. You can tell all these people are just trying to validate their own feelings on the matter with anecdotes because there's no practical difference.

Reality is what it is, Michigan won those games, there team got all the benefits of winning those games, the players and fans got all the joy of winning those games, the fans of the other teams went home sad and frankly sore losers will use any little bit of controversy to undermine someone beating them so they can cope with themselves.

We saw fans do that with the Patriots for years, and we even see Patriots fans be guilty of that as well when it comes to conspiracies about the Chiefs.

Lance Armstrong won those bicycle races, too. And they all cheated, anyway.
I'll be honest, you're right, they all cheated. Lance won on the playing field he was part of. It's like saying 90's MLB records and wins don't count when everyone and their mother knew the top players were juicing.

However Lance Armstrong lied his ass off and also went out of his way to attack and ruin people's lives to keep his lie going, so I don't feel much sympathy for him that his legacy is tarnished.

I keep seeing Michigan State alumni stating that most of America thinks the championship is tainted or the penalties weren’t enough, like I mentioned earlier I listen to SIRIUS College football radio and most fans that call in say who cares can’t wait door 2025 season, even most of the hosts could care less.

I hate Michigan but I’ll say the same thing here I said 18 years ago:

It is beyond stupid that recording a guy and the players standing in full view of 75,000 people - not to mention in a game being broadcast to millions - is considered “spying”.

The NCAA rules mandated a one- to three-year post season bowl ban. Toothless. Governing bodies have been co-opted.
