Evan Lazar article about the OL in the Pats first padded practice...

Rookie LT Will Campbell was introduced to his first NFL practice in full pads by Keion White in 1-on-1s, but the first-rounder settled in during team periods. From this vantage point, Campbell had a great start to real football. He caved in the line of scrimmage on a down block, combo'd up to the second level on another, generated movement on a frontside reach, and stopped White with a firm punch on a play-action touchdown to Ja'Lynn Polk

mike reiss also weighed in with a less rosy article but still highlights some good line play...
This was the first full-pads practice of training camp, and it included 1-on-1 work for offensive linemen and defensive linemen/linebackers. DE Keion White had a pull/rip move on LT Will Campbell for one of the more decisive wins. Campbell, the No. 4 overall pick in the draft, seemed to recover and held his ground well in 11-on-11 work.

Other notable 1-on-1 wins from defenders from this reporter's perspective: DT Khyiris Tonga over the left shoulder of C Garrett Bradbury, OLB Anfernee Jennings getting around RT Demontrey Jacobs; DT Jahvaree Ritzie over the outside shoulder of LG Caedan Wallace.

so its not all sunshine & fairy farts for the OL but there are glimmers of life from the most important unit on the field... Campbell starting to look like the real deal... need to see more but the returns from the 11 on 11's were damn good for Campbell and the reconstituted unit as a whole...

after last year and that circus, i consider this a good start...

Uhmm, is that the same link twice? Both Lezar.

Otherwise. Thx

Josh Dobbs and Ben Woolridge have longer wingspans than the starting LT. That’s…strange.

I'm just curious Pape, as I've heard the possibility brought up: What if the Starting OL is Marcus Bryant at LT and Will Campbell at LG? I'm not saying that will happen in Week 1 or at any point this Season. But, if that were to happen at some point and it actually worked, how would you feel about that? And, best case scenario is that Bryant and Campbell are Pro Bowl/All Pro at LT and LG (or at least that caliber), for the next 10+ Year's. I'm NOT saying that will happen, but was just interested to know how you'd feel about that if it were to happen that way. After all, a perennial Pro Bowl LG with the 4th overall pick and an Alaric Jackson/Orlando Brown Jr. (if not better) LT in the 7th Round. I could live with that.

WC, meet Kayvon Thibodeaux. Gonna get serious in practices with the Giants. In pass protection. This week will tell. Brian Burns and rookie Abdul Carter.

Giants have the best defensive line in the NFL.

Cool fact. Giants HC Brian Daboll and the Patriots’ OC were both graduate assistants at Michigan State in the late 1990s under Nick Saban. McDaniels in 1999. Daboll in 1998-99.

So they go WAY back.

No joint practices this week. And unlikely any of the starters for the Patriots and Giants play Thursday.

I think your right except for Campbell (who needs the snaps), Brown, Wilson and Bradbury…I don't think LG and C starters are known yet.

Unfortunately, the Will Campbell of this season is going to have his moments where he looks like a bust. I think that's inevitable for any rookie tackle. What we should be more interested in is how long it takes him to clean up any bad habits he has and to improve areas of weakness.

Fortunately, having said all that, from what I've seen, he is already worlds better than what we've been playing out there the past few years.

Hopefully the strong showing for Campbell continues and improves. Rookie linemen are always a work in progress.

Even the almighty Bruce Armstrong didn't start out very 'almighty', playing as a RT his first couple years in the league.

Pat Harlow and Matt Light from mighty Purdue were plug and play rookie LTs.

I agree Campbell and Moses are both upgrades over our USFL OTs from a year ago, but repeating what Captain Stone has said the front office has erred in not bringing in a veteran LT.

A long list of reasons to fire Eliot Wolf. Send em back to Green Bay.

I wish someone could interview Doug Marrone and ask the OL coach about the statuses of Cole Strange and Sidy Sow. Both are talented enough to be starting in this league. Both are being pushed to the sideline. Why?

They aren't going to go from maybe the worst OL in the NFL to a top tier one in one offseason and 2 pre-season games. It's going to take time for the rookies (Campbell, Bryant, Wilson) to learn their craft and for the unit to gel (to use the chiche). They are going to be improved over last year.

Harlow started on the Right side his rookie year... and only had 32 inch arms

and who were they going to bring in? which veteran LT was available?

Just saw PFF OT grades through two preseason games…

Don’t tell Sam that Simmons is so far behind Marcus Bryant.

Is that Armand Membou @ 52??
