I agree wozzy there. That wasn't to minimize Marcus at all. However Marcus is a excellent athlete and he was an all pro his rookie season. But let's not try to convince ourselves he's an outside CB let's not lie to ourselves as fans to believe that. Some don't have a problem with him on the outside that's thier prerogative. I get Ellis Hobbs, alphonoso Dennard, Kyle Arrington, sterling Moore, Terrence Wheatley, Jonathan whilhite vibes with him when lined up outside. He is an all pro return specialist and a good slot CB.. he's valuable to the team. However let's not get to crazy wozzy.
IMO, Marcus Jones is the #3 outside corner on the team by a very wide margin. It is he, not Austin, that is the primary backup if one of our top 2 corners is out.

when was this written and by whom?

I note that the writer thinks that Bolden has a good shot at the roster because of his mini camp.
======
In any case, the writer says that Austin in the primary BACKUP. I agree.

I believe that STARTER Marcus Jones would move to the outside if one of the top 2 were out. I'm not sure who the most likely first of the bench would be, although we presume Austin. In the new Offense, safety may be more likely than Austin.

Who was lined ou outside and who was was in the slot here? Not STARTER Jones it was the top backup up CB AUSTIN.

Juat backtracking my response. Yourself, myself and others would all agree we have a nice rotation of CBs right? We have 2 excellent starters of course in ALL pro gonzo and Davis.. with an excellent slot cb In Marcus. To have guys that have been playing with alot of confidence like Austin, battle and James only makes the secondary that much better should a starter go down. I really think the coaching this season has helped all those guys games.

I simply asked the source and date.

Without that, I thought that it had been written before training camp, and certainly before pre-season games.
==========
I agree that we have a fine set of starters as well as good backup in Auston and James.
======
My disagreement was that you seem to be indicating that Austin is a better outside corner than Jones. I'm not sure you think is a very good outside corner at all. I agree that if we are starting 3 corners, as we did under Belichick, then Austin is the first backup off the bench.
=======
Also, I wouldn't put Battle in the same grouping as Austin and James, who are locks to be our #4 and #5 CBs, presuming that we don't add someone else (as some of us would like to happen).

Battle is competing for a #6 CB position if there is one.

We agree on Marcus. But I disagree that Austin isn't a good outside corner he's had a great camp, has been the mainstay outside since gonzo has been out. It's been Austin and James outside and Marcus in the slot. Your right Marcus is the starting CB in the SLOT. I'm not sure why you believe Marcus is this awesome outside CB. He's at his best in the slot where his speed, range and ball skills are most useful.

It’s his inability to stay on the field. The guy needs to show us longevity. That’d be nice. Still need a guy to give him competition. Irrelevant Kobee ain’t it.
???

You want competition at nickel? OK. We have Austin, James and even Woodson. I think Peppers could also be our nickel if needed.

I would add another corner because of the injury history of our top 4 corners. Most others seem to disagree.
==========
If you want competition at PR, we have Douglas and Chism.
======
Marcus Jones is an excellent outside corner, nickel and punt returner. Some want him to also play Offense.

But you are correct. Jones often injured.

We will play 3 corners as a base defense. Jones isn’t a backup he’s a starter.

People try to use AI like it’s factual. All it does is find articles on the internet

When you challenge it’s response it usually backtracks.

it wouldn’t make sense to move Jones out of his best role as the nickel to play on the boundary.

Weren't we in a similar situation last year, when J Jones was moved outside when there was an injury, since he was the clear #3 CB? His best position was clearly at nickel, but he was needed outside.

I agree that with our top corners healthy, Jones should play zero reps outside. He is by far our best nickel corner.

Your argument is that Mayo and Covington were right?

I'd be shocked if the Pats found a trade partner for Dugger. He may get paid to stay home.

It doesn't seem like anyone has emerged enough to bounce Jennings off the roster. He's got 9 lives.

Chism is making the team. Meanwhile, Bourne is probably freaking out and talking to his Agent. His time is up. He'll go to either San Fran or Miami.
