Chism is a good prospect. Breaking 3rd stringer tackles is not remarkable.
Really? So guys that are good enough to play the second preseason game in the NFL don’t can’t tackle? Sorry my man, you’re incorrect

Vrabel likes bigger CBs in the slot
Football is about matchups, you don’t want Alex Austin against smaller quicker WR’s like Chism and definitely not ones that have inline speed like Douglas… they’ll roast him.

Think Edelman on Aqib Talib on the Broncos, then the Rams trying the same thing years later in the Super Bowl. Talib was a Pro Bowl CB, Edelman was a mismatch. Talib was too big, Jules was too quick.

Moreover Adoree Jackson was a small slot CB for the Titans, not a big guy. Mike Vrabel likes bigger CB’s on the outside, that’s makes him like 31 other defensive coaches in the NFL.

I’d rather put Marcus Jones on one of the Dolphins two shrimp but explosive starting WR’s (Tyreek, Waddle) before Carlton Davis… there’s a tool for every job. Marcus Jones is an All Pro caliber athlete… let’s not be foolish.

I have posted similar
I think Austin supplants Marcus Jones. Marcus is simply too small
I haven't seen the snap numbers this week but Marcus got all starter reps on the outside last week. Seems you're more worried than the coaches.

I agree wozzy there. That wasn't to minimize Marcus at all. However Marcus is a excellent athlete and he was an all pro his rookie season. But let's not try to convince ourselves he's an outside CB let's not lie to ourselves as fans to believe that. Some don't have a problem with him on the outside that's thier prerogative. I get Ellis Hobbs, alphonoso Dennard, Kyle Arrington, sterling Moore, Terrence Wheatley, Jonathan whilhite vibes with him when lined up outside. He is an all pro return specialist and a good slot CB.. he's valuable to the team. However let's not get to crazy wozzy.

Perry mentioned that was due to guys being out. Dj James, davis, dial, and gonzo, wich impacted the depth. Marcus was on hockinson.. not sure how/why that even happened. Fact is Marcus is a great slot cb and all pro return specialist. I want him to have a great season. He could really thrive ubder Vrabel. I'm hoping for big things for he and Austin.

Everyone likes bigger CBs in the slot.
Your right I do..

That’s who Austin is… he is a bigger border CB version of Bryant.

If Austin or Bryant had more pure speed they’d have been great… unfortunately they don’t.

Battle is an extremely good athlete and looked great both this game and the last. If the coaches don’t notice this they’re idiots.
I think your really under valuing Austin wozzy. The guy has been the mainstay at outside CB all the while Gonzo has been out.. he's the one guy that Williams snd Vrabel have consistently been out there and he's also been in the slot some. That's confirmation of how the coaching staff views him. He will be on the field a ton this season. He's always around the ball, making plays, he tackles, he's physical. The coaching has helped his game alot.

Dugger was in there at the very end of a preseason game in the 4th quarter. He should be on the phone with moving companies right now.
That definitely is a sign he's being showcased for other teams possible trade? If so what do you think we can het for him? 5th?

We'd be lucky to get a 7th round pick swap with that contract to be completely honest. I'd seriously consider it to, if he's actually done. Better to pay the dead cap over the next 2 years rather than his full contract most likely (although I have no idea what his playing time incentives are)

Definitely because of the injuries. And obviously he's a slot corner. My point was that he's physical enough to be one of the first backups called on to play outside then I'm sure they find him plenty physical for the slot. I've even noticed them sending him on blitzes too which suggests a level a physicality too.

He’s not an outside CB, but he is the modern Jonathan Jones.

I think a lot of people here are overvaluing him. He’s a bigger version of Myles Bryant. He has everything you want in a boundary CB except one thing…. speed. Unfortunately it’s a position where speed comes in very handy.

A great and instinctive technician at CB can hide a lack of speed, Richard Sherman who was also helped by scheme with the Seahawks, or Malcolm Butler who was good for a couple years then had a crisis of confidence and was never the same player. But this isn’t ideal…

Ideally you have a great technician who also possesses blazing speed like Gonzo or a developmental prospect like Miles Battle. The best way to negate speed on offense is with speed on defense.

Austin is a nice little player, as your 5-6th CB and special teams player he’s great. But when he’s giving up gains in games be prepared for me to say “I told you so.”

People used to argue with me early on Myles Bryant was a good prospect… he was a good backup to Jon Jones only… break glass in case of emergency.

He's a physical player for sure, I agree SBB. What I always did over the years is pay more attention to what Coaches did with players as opposed to what's said.. what we are seeing is Alex has been the mainstay outside and DJ James during the absence of our top dawgs... Marcus has been primarily in the slot. Vrabel's showing the players he wants to put them in the best positions to be successful within thier skill sets. Noticed how we haven't seen Marcus on offense as well? Could he play there absolutely, could he play outside for a few snaps absolutely. I truly think Marcus is at his best locking down slot wrs. I absolutely think the world of him as a player and I'd like him to be here long term.

He's been the starting CB outside all while gonzo has been out.

Marcus stuck to WRs last year better than any Patriots slot CB I've seen in the last 25 yrs.

He had 10 PBUs in 14 games.

It will be a bold move to go away from him.
