Why don't you think he'd come back to the team next year? They clearly like him and he committed to come here. He'll also likely do most of his rehab here as he'll be on the payroll. I'm very hopeful that he'll come back next year with a real chance to make the team. No?
To be fair, under Belichick, pretty much every rookie UDFA who went on IR before the season started got cut before the next draft. I don't know how things will work under Vrabel, though.Sam has decided to be Tony Mazzerotti, the little contrarian schnauzer barking me too me too to any contrarian position. His only goal is to piss people off.
It's such a shame for the lad, this may sound crazy but as an athlete I think a broken foot can pan out better than ligament damage. In the day I have had both. But best of luck and I hope he is back soon.Larison has skills. If you check out his college tape, he made a bunch of amazing catches coming out of the backfield. He's clearly an excellent athlete and I'm hopeful that with some time in the system may be a really nice third down back. Tough as nails. I bet he'll be an excellent blocker as well (number one ranked high school steer wrestler in the country....). So I hope he'll stick around.
If you go on IR before final cutdown, you are out for the year.Yes, but it delays any need to make a quick decision on him. He can be added a 4th RB whenever we wish, presuming the injury isn't a major one.
Can you provide a reference to the CBA or league rules to show that? I’ve seen that stated, and I’ve seen it stated that any player already on IR can be designated for future return on cutdown day. The recent wording I’ve seen has been ambiguous, the only thing that seemed unambiguous was like four or six years old so I’d really like to find a current reference that’s definitive. If you go on IR before final cutdown, you are out for the year.
If a player is placed on this list before the regular season begins, he could miss the entire season unless they are designated to return during the roster cutdown to 53 players after training camp. Teams can designate up to two such players to return.
My understanding is that you must designate full season or eligible to return at the time you put them on IR.Can you provide a reference to the CBA or league rules to show that? For reference, when I’ve tried to find something this was the clearest explanation I found:
Here’s where that came from:
From IR and PUP to practice squads: What do NFL roster designations mean?

Any players placed on Reserve/Injured prior to the roster reduction to 75 players on the Active List will not count on the club’s overall roster limit of 90 players, provided that the club requested waivers on the player with the designation “injured” and placed the player on Reserve/Injured immediately after the expiration of the claiming period and provided that all such players will count on the club's overall 90-man roster limit after 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the day of the cutdown to 75 players.
