I think he's done for the year.

Teams can designate two eight players to return - but only after the roster is cut down to 53 players.

(1) It's rare that UDFAs who end up on IR get a second chance with that team, although there are rare exceptions.
(2) Even in the best case scenario, he can't practice with the team anymore, but he can attend meetings, etc.

* Teams get eight DTRs a season now (up from two in 2017, down from unlimited during COVID).
* Teams can use two of those DTRs on players placed on IR during the final day of cuts.

Is it during the final day of cuts? Or during preseason, and on the final day of cuts designated to return?

I’ve seen statements both ways, and nothing definitive to resolve the ambiguity.
