Should the Patriots Trade for Washington WR Terry McClaurin? (8/16 update: off PUP)[8/25: signs 3yr extension]

Washington is pushing this as far as they can because of his age. He could miss most of camp and be ready to play the next day. He’s not going anywhere.

He’s going to sign. He’s just using a trade request for leverage; quite normal now. Myles Garrett pulled the same lever, and re-signed with Cleveland weeks later.

I have gone back and forth on this, and I think my reasoning on not making a deal for him is flawed. I opposed the idea because you can only have a few 30 million + contracts, and Gonzalez and Maye take up 2 of those spots. However McLaurin’s extension isn't likely to go more than 3 years, and they currently don’t have anyone else on the roster that warrants that type of the deal in the next 3 years, and next years free agent market basically sucks, with Micah Parsons as the only real superstar, and Dallas will franchise him. So I guess I’m back on the side of going after him, on the condition it doesn’t cost more than a 2nd and a WR ( Bourne, Baker, Polk). If they can get that done it should really help them make a playoff push.

Diggs and our 2026 fourth for McLaurin, would you do it? Would you send our third? Or second? Or throw in Polk?
Why send Diggs? Give them a third or fourth along with Bourne, Polk or something along those lines. A hypothetical corps of Diggs, Scary Terry, Pop, KW & Mac in the RZ would be one of the best in the league.

Why? Diggs is better. Look at the stats since 2019. Diggs was on pace for his 5th consecutive 100 catch, 1000 yard, no less than 8 tds year.

Sorry, Diggs has a lot of TO in him where he will play good until he is 34 or 35. Contract is friendlier and he’s a better wr imo. Sticking with Diggs 100%

I know right, even if we say He's better and healthier it's not by that much. The benefit would be to pair them together not flip one for another.

I wouldn't offer Diggs, but let's give Terry a little more credit. Last year was the first year he had a real QB, and he balled out. He's had 5 consecutive years of 1000+ yards, and over 900 in 2019. His QBs have been Case Keenum, Alex Smith, Heinicke and Sam Howell. Yuck!

I see Diggs and McLaurin as playing similar roles, with McLaurin younger and a bit better IMO. I also agree with the contention that Diggs would be very unhappy playing on the same roster as McLaurin, competing for touches. I’d send Bourne or Polk, would prefer to keep Baker as a development piece. Also think that Diggs would be far more attractive for the Commanders so the additional compensation would be less expensive.

I'll play Terry McLaurin - Diggs - Pop and HH = Top 5 Offense.

People are too fixated on age. Production is production.

Dallas won’t have close to the cap space to tag him. Gotta remember, Myles Garrett just made the Tag for that position north of 35 million. Not happening with their roster and how it’s so top heavy. Also have a huge dead cap for Zach Martin. I could see them trading him.
