Nothing about Bourne is hard to replace: he doesn't play ST's and he's not fast - quick or sudden. Hollins I don't know what to say he has so little to go off.

Yea we have no idea what Hollins can/will do has a $4m cap hit. At this point hes a WR5 who can play some STs.

That's the thing about WR's. If you go to ANY camp you will find at least 2 or 3 guys who have flashed several times that fans are excited about and yet are fighting to make rosters like Boutte, Baker, and Polk etc. EVERY camp. There are simply THAT many talented WR's out there ... and there will be 20+ more next year

Our WR group might be much better than regarded: thanks to that guy below. Really good Receivers Coach with a lot of experience.

Can't judge a Young player off one year with abysmal Coaching to boot. I hope they don't give up on Polk and Baker this year. If Harry and Bony Thornton can get three years Polk and Baker can get two.

I dont disagree with what your saying and I dont want another Harry/Thornton situation. But if these guys dont make people in wheelchairs stand up during training camp I think you pull the plug and move on. They have to show improved development as we move closer to the season because if they don't are we going to carry them just because?

Bishop for sure was #2 (at least in the minds of posters in 99 LOL)

Trust me I'm not the most patient person: but IF one of the two becomes a decent NFL player for us I'll be happy. The Commanders are coming to town that Practice and Game should be fun.

How do we know “they’re not that good”? We know what Bourne is, Polk, Baker and Chism are TBD at this point and have a month to show what they can be. Maybe they are no good, but maybe they aren’t. Don’t know how you could say definitively one way or other today.

Oh, you’re completely right that the decision won’t be made until the end of camp. I just meant if the decision was being made today or if things stay status quo.

My main point is that we overrate WRs at the bottom of the roster and that if we looked around we could also find plenty of other WRs who were good a few years ago but got injured and haven’t shown they’re fully back (Bourne), WRs drafted highly who had bad first years (Polk) or WRs drafted lowly who had even worse first years (Baker).

I really hope they show serious potential so that we keep them or get good trade value for them. But I don’t think it makes sense to minimize other positions to try to keep them.

His name got mentioned a few times catching passes from QB J Dobbs. His WR background is what intrigues me and he's still learning the new position.

Good catch. Coaching can have such an impact. Let's not forget the importance of the offensive system and QB to a receiver's success. And everyone looks better when the OL is good.

We forget sometimes just how interrelated it all is and that is why I love the game. It's REALLY not about the individual since everyone's success is so dependent on other's contributions. I blame ESPN - back in the mid 80's when it came on, the game began to be framed more and more about individuals rather than the team (marketing, I guess). Hence you got Brady vs Manning rather than Pats vs Colts.

But football has always stayed true to the team concept if you wanted success and the best TEAM still usually beats the best group of individuals.

Last year the World Champs Eagles: a lot of their Teams success was credited to their OL Coach - OC and Defense.

Friesz started the year as the backup. Brady ultimately moved up the depth chart ahead of him (remember the Lions game - Brady was active that week, Friesz and Bishop were inactive for that game). Bishop ultimately moved ahead of Friesz to #3, but I think that was primarily due to their record more than anything at that point of the season.

Has Bourne and Hollins separated themselves from the Polk's and Baker's of the NFL?? One can't live off past accomplishments in the NFL which stands for Not-For-Long.

I wouldn't say they've separated themselves or that it's about past performance. It's more of an established level of play that the younger guys need to prove to be better than. I think that bar should be easily attainable if any of these kids are going to be any good but until they actually pass that line Hollins and/or Bourne still have a decent chance too.
